So there's gonna be a CD, and the new song will be on iTunes shortly:

Will someone inform Prince's official mouthpiece how to spell iTunes correctly? You'd think a man who's supposed to write for a living wouldn't make such "mistakes", and certainly not that Prince would employ him as his official mouthpiece...

Jus heard it. Wow. That sucked.

Granted it was a radio rip playing through my iPad speakers, but it's incredibly bland and incoherent. Random shit tacked together in the least enthusiastic way possible.

It is crystal clear the 3EG website was once again an attempt to get fans enthusiastic, so Prince could shop his CD to a retailer and point out "see, lotsa people want this". Hence it stopped selling new music abruptly, hence the social media accounts basically stopped being active,...

Of course, if you look at the viewing figures of the 3EG videos, you realize how pathetic Prince's current undertaking is and I bet the sales numbers of the 3EG website have been equally underwhelming.

Like it. The batch of songs from "3rd Eye Girl" have all been diverse. Interested in hearing the entire album, it will have some gems.

it keeps reminding me of the bit in "damned if i do" that goes

"maybe we should say our gooooooodbyeyeyeye" right before

the latin break.

yet, after 2 listens, it doesn't even come close to being even as

mediocre as "damned if i do"

falloff

but who knows. i usually end up liking the songs i kind of hate

at first.

first thought was: this shit is going to itunes yet "down" remains

in the vault? wth?

at least prince is on lead vocals though, that's something lol

God you're predictable.

I notice you haven't brought up your precious Trent recently. Is that because he's disillusioned you by signing to a major label after pledging not to? Or that his latest album has been poorly reviewed and is sinking like a stone? Or that he cut that project off at the knees by announcing a NIN reunion just before that record was released?

And also the "wall of soundy" guitar solo part of Damned If I Do that comes straight after the syncopated Latin part you mention (I think).

Definitely got that sound. Good spot.

Oh boy, heard it and it is painfully obvious Prince is now so desperate for inspiration he's taken to remaking shit songs from his past.

That pathetic tacked-on funk doodle isn't even the worst of it.

Those lyrics... ugh, dude really needs to stop reading those awful self-help books Americans love so much.

LMAO that he thinks this will be a hit on iTunes.

I wouldn't be surprised if this 3EG CD never gets released, and that the band is kicked to the curb after the tour. Hey, did ya notice how there are still tickets available? Great success, right? I mean, totally worth spending all that time and effort of hyping this on social media, right?

I'm not defending anything, Bart, nor am I proclaiming 3rd Eye Girl to be a success. I'm simply pointing out how tiring it is that you keep quiet unless you have something negative to point out. That doesn't make you wrong, just pathetic. It's been what, 15 years of this shit? Get a life man!

I so agree. This song is absolutely horrible. No one would even give this junk the time of day if it were not Prince. He is still a fantastic musician but no longer a good songwriter. There is NO WAY that this song will even ever touch the charts. Crap.

I like the song very much. I love the subtle irregularities in rhythm and that not everything is linear (harmonically and rhythmically). He's still not "experimental" per se, but the songwriting is a tad bit more "free-flowing" and interesting than it is on, say, RnR Love Affair.

His voice sounds heavy, too. Cool. I just wish he would have milked that chorus a bit more (a second full chorus would have been nice), because the song somehow gears towards it.

I wouldn't say it's horrible. Decent song, performed live I'd probably like it more. It's definitely forgettable though.

Giving me a grunge feel. Def chaos & disorder-ly.

I like the melody of the verses, like his vocals. The end sounds like kind of a mess.

Overall I liked the stripped down approach thus far in his music.

DAMN!! Why is this guy (Bart) even here anymore? He's like what you realize that girl/guy looks like after the buzz of those 8 or so beers you drank fades. He's like that bitter old lady with all the cats...screaming at P for walking on her lawn! Give it a rest, man! That, or simply leave. You're killing my 8-beer-in buzz homie...

Oh, and I am really DIGGIN' the track btw. wink

What makes you think Prince is aiming for the Billboard charts? We dont even know how the CD will be distributed (if it comes out at all) and depending on how the CD is distributed. If this project is independently financed and promoted, the chance that any single from this album are slim to none.

True. I am mainly referring to his past ability to create an 'everyman' song that had that WOW factor. This stuff has some great guitar work and that is it. Bland and forgettable with subpar lyrics.

It's been a long time since he's been able to write like that. I think Rock And Roll Love Affair is probably the closest thing to great songwriting in recent years, and even that obviously pales in comparison to anything off Purple Rain.

That said, I dig this and most of his recent music. Lowering your expectations helps!
