Well obviously it's nice to have new stuff coming at us, but it's also nice to own his back catalogue. Personally I'm getting tired of posting to these love/hate threads. It's the only forum where we can get so bitchy. Most of us would be banned from other interest sites I use. The mods wouldn't tolerate it and the other users are far more mature. It's bizarre how we argue over an artist we all love. How spoilt our lives must be that this is all we can do. I hang my head in shame. None of us should be attacked for our preferences. We don't choose to like or dislike things. I can't abide celery yet I understand it has health benefits, a nice texture, pleasant shape and is one of the holy trinity when it comes to Italian cooking. Yet if celery was a song by prince I'd be hanged for not liking it on the org And I wouldn't tear someone a new asshole if they didn't like Roquefort. I'd just accept they were taste disabled, pity them a little bit and carry on. I wouldn't tell them they were wrong for not realising it was the best cheese ever, the King of Cheeses in fact. Fuck me what the fuck am I babbling about!? It's obviously late. Goodnight friends yet strangers. The odd extended family that is the org. A weird, huge dysfunctional Waltons.

Funny 'cause it's true! I like tea and I like sex. I also like it when Mrs iloveannie takes a swig of tea and pops my balls in her mouth. Followed by an ice cube. Whatever floats the boat I guess. I don't dislike the reworking of this song but neither does it make me want to go crazy or get nuts. I guess the original is far too significant to me being the first song to make me realise what a fucking genius Prince was. It was the song that started my fanaticism. So obviously I'm going to judge any other version harshly. If Prince's only competition is his former self then he will always be doomed to failure. He was too fucking good for his own good! Lol

Wow--that's a bit too much sharing, there, my man. You stayed up 9 minutes too long, I think. We might be dysfunctional, but if we're Waltons, we can't handle that sort of information.
I am curious about what you're saying about "Let's Go Crazy"--I can't say it was "the song" for me, but it certainly contributed. I haven't liked the live versions, for the most part, and hardly ever listen to even the album version (the 7-inch edit is cause for violence)--the only real version for me has been the 12-inch. I'm only on my second listening to this new version, but I think what makes it work for me is that it's so different that it isn't really the same song. It's not trying to do the same thing at all, where the other versions have either lost or added elements while still trying to perform more or less the same feat. So I find I'm not comparing this to the original but hearing it almost as a new song.
Most of the rehearsal/live streams and releases we've had over the last few years haven't struck me as doing anything remarkably different from the originals; so I compared them, and, in general, the new ones came up wanting. Not necessarily terrible, but rarely doing anything very interesting. Not to me, and, I suspect, not to Prince either. And I suspect the difference here is the band--I can't judge their technical skills, but I'm pretty sure they're not there just to look pretty. I think that what's happening on this recording (and in the Dakota shows with this group) is indicative that he's looking for something new. I'm not sure he's found it--we'll see what he writes in the near future. I figure this is just a new direction to head in, not the ultimate destination. But for now, I'm hopeful (but I like rock Prince--especially when he opens it up a little, as he seems to be doing now).
Oh--let's listen to that again.

I didn't make up any damn thing, so you can stop repeating that lie on me, because you don't want to admit the fucking truth to yourself and/or to Prince's readers, that the song is just plain lousy.
Not that I have to explain myself to you but for your information, when I posted my comment, I was having Easter Dinner at the Westin Hotel in Southfield, in the Algonquin Ballroom as my family and friends have done every year for the last 5 years. Since the festivites were winding down, and I had my laptop, as I always do, I went to the front desk, got the guestcode to access the internet and ended up here. As I said, I took my headphones off and let the 30 or so people left, that I personally know had varying degrees of Prince likability, hear the damn song as I was hearing it because I honestly couldn't believe my damn ears. At first, most of them didn't even believe that it was Prince, at all. When I finally convinced them that it indeed was Prince and not a joke on my part or some imposter, the reactions were as I stated.
Believe me, don't believe me. I don't give a fuck but for crying out loud, STOP LYING TO THAT DAMN MAN!!!!!!
I'll laugh my motherfucking ass off, if it turns out that Prince released that craptacular mess on purpose, just to see how many of you so called "fams" would actually be honest about it. [Edited 4/1/13 18:19pm] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

She's not a bad drummer at all. She probably doesn't belong in Prince's band, but Prince does not follow normal logic. When it comes to band members, he usually wants somebody who will take the smallest paycheck possible. That's his mindset...cheap over quality with Prince every single time. He's still the most amazing artist out there...even if we have to deal with more BS than we should.

Just different. It will never replace that original Revolution version. But, I hear ya, its a looong drawn out sleazy dirty jam version. Not a bad thing...just different.

Can we do a comparison? Play the original Let's Go Crazy 12". Then play this recent Let's Go Crazy arrangement. Only then try to formulate your feelings. Please post them a day later. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I believe this. Of course it sounded shit through laptop speakers in a hotel lobby. RIP

Aren't we all lucky that we love an artist that doesn't just go out there and play songs exactly the same as they were played on record year after year, because if that were the case there would no reason to keep going back tour after tour.
I really like this direction, slightly dark and edgy. If a new load of songs follow this theme I'll be more than happy.

Third listen. Love that he solos so well and hasn't forgotten how to play that incredible solo but the four minutes in the middle are toilet break time. Or long enough actually to make a quick cup of tea (three minutes brewing essential!).

Where do you get your informnation that he takes peopel he take the smallest paychecks// Who says that.. Its conjecture on youtr part.. Read the Andrew Gouche interview in Bass Player magazine from sevedral months ago..I beleive he does a wonderful job of talking what Prince pays.. Opinions you are entitled to, facts you are not

Really not eager 2 talk about who should get which job but I've always been wishing 4 Prince 2 contact Cindy Blackman.... And her husband can join the band 2 play guitar 4 Prince, I hear he's pretty good at it... Lol nobody picked up on your suggestion. Just experienced her husband live a couple of days ago. Fantastic! As to this slowed down version of the song, I like that Prince re-arranges his songs and I like the bluesey, raw style but I am not into heavy rock. So the first two minutes feel good and then it gets too heavy for me and the end is a typical solo guitar ending. Will listen to it a few more times to see if it grows on me. And peeps should stop criticising Hannah, her drumming serves the song, that is what is important. She is a good drummer. Her style is rock, not funk. It is becoming obvious that the Thirdeyegirl band is about heavier, more rocknroll type sound than the NPG with Blackwell and horns. [Edited 4/3/13 3:07am] ...every night another symphony...

Between her performance on Jimmy Fallon and this reworking of "Let's Go Crazy", she has my vote.
I would personally like a thicker, louder snare, but that's just my taste. "He's a musician's musician..."
