this was totally insane lets go crazy is one of my favs and this version instantly had me. still not impressed with hannah's drumming which is so odd b/c she is bad as hell on drums

She is great and she doesn't hit every beat like a Linn but a slightley syncopated rhythm and

simple in the pocket. Personally, I perfer her over Blackwell (not sheila). Love her and she's

gorgeous to boot.

i dont give a hot damn about looks when it comes 2 musicianship and far as comparing her 2 blackwell thats a laugh lol u trying 2 give a april fools a day early lol

So people shouldn't have an opinion on what they've heard?

Art is not just about creation but also appreciation. I don't understand why that aspect of the experience of art is so dismissed. One does not have to have created something in order to appreciate it.

The amazing thing is that there hadn't even been any negative responses. A couple of people on the fence, maybe, but no one who came down against it. TheEnglishGent seems to prefer a full speed version, but says "It's nice once though." Cbarnes3121 "still isn't impressed with Hannah's drumming" even though she is "bad as hell" (that is a little strange) but says "this version instantly had me." Serpan seems undecided, but says he likes "the rocking guitars" and it's a "nice Easter surprise" (with a happy face). NuPwrSoul admits "I'm not a fan of this version," but also claims to "dig the blues take" and would like it incorporated as a breakdown into a version which also includes the more standard upbeat elements.

The rest of the responses seem to be straight-up positive.

My own first response (which came after the "moaners" post) isn't fully committed, but I'm feeling generally positive too.

So while the moaners might come eventually, they don't seem to be here yet.

Edit: Fonkyman posted while I was writing this--okay, that's a negative response.

Not sure I'm a fan of this, but it's cool to hear LGC done differently for a change.

Anyone have any luck downloading the MOV file yet? My browser's been checking for viruses for 10 minutes now.

The GO GO GO is GONE GONE GONE!!!

I'm sure it'll come back next time he tours with back-up singers, but I've not really enjoyed a "Let's Go Crazy" for a few years because even during other parts of the song I was either dreading when that bit would come up or trying to recover from how annoying it was afterwards.

I was wondering whether they'd go ahead and work up more of the not-so-obvious drums/bass/guitar only tunes, or if they'd stick to songs that were already in that format, so I find this recording promising--even if I'm not sure it's completely successful (I've only listened once), it suggests that the setlists might go beyond things we've already heard from earlier stripped down bands.

So, why have they switched to using the Madison Dube vimeo account instead of their own Youtube one? Is there some advantage that I'm not seeing, or are they intent on scattering things around the internet?

[Edited 3/31/13 6:31am]

I believe he started that Go Go Go with the SOTT band

I get that--but she still feels to me like she's bringing some energy that's been missing. I'm no expert on drums, but Blackwell didn't feel excited back there, to me. She might be tamed from what she was doing away from Prince, but she seems pretty fired up, still. And I have the feeling that Prince is getting all sorts of energy from this group.

Right, positivity hat on,

Nice. Happy Easter, thanks for the egg. Love a bit of guitar. Love that he's dropping whatever.

Give us something new though. It's hardly groundbreaking innovation is it? Just a jam.

Has it been that long? I have regular shows from then, but I mostly listen to aftershows from that period. Well, I don't remember ever liking it, anyway.

Though I did discover that Portland is sold out (SF already was). However, it's still possible to get tickets for all other cities, though not necessarily the price level, date, or time of your choice.

Note at the end of the video, the screen says "LETS GO CRAZY REHEARSAL"...I assume it's being rehearsed for the tour. cool cool cool

As for this new LGC version, hmm, maybe I'm just too much of a fuddy-duddy or too in love with the original to appreciate this! wink But it's cool to hear experimentation. I hope it means we'll hear different takes on other songs at the upcoming shows. I might hear a new version of something and absolutely love it! dancing jig

Exactly! It's not gonna be a retread of the shows from the past several years, even if he plays familiar songs. Or at least, we have real reason to hope it won't.

Sounds like a no-keys version.

This might be a sign of what's to come with 3rdeyegirl performances.

It's strange at first, at least to me, but kinda refreshing for when you're in a guitar mood.

Undecided. I love it in theory but there is probably a more appropriate song to be given this treatment. But it is a lot less cheesy and truncated than it has been for several years.

I believe he started that Go Go Go with the SOTT band

I was wondering if somebody would beat me to it, and somebody did. Prince hasn't played Let's Go Crazy in any normal way, shape, or form...other than the Purple Rain tour, and a brief moment at the end of the sometimes dreadful Jam of The Year Tour where the song actually sounded anything like Let's Go Crazy. He always put some corny sounding horn parts, and made it sound so karaoke. The "Go Go Go" would have been annoying if he kept it to under 30 seconds, but sometimes he got carried away like chanting "Go Go GO" was some kind of creative peak in his career that he had to go on and on about...

As perfect as the SOTT tour was, Let's Go Crazy could've been a highlight, but other than some nice guitar work by Prince, the song's lyrics were mostly dropped, and the "Shave And A Haircut" song from the Johnny Carson show was even put in the song....so awful....Prince sometimes has this little policy, if he had horns on stage, they had to have a part in every single song...even songs that were not meant to have horns.

On Musicology, he had MULTIPLE saxophone parts where guitar parts should be...while his guitar solo was great, the song became a huge sax vechicle, which it is clearly not. It is almost like having Tony M rap about manure during Purple Rain...it just makes no sense.

Now finally, to the topic...I like the new 3rd Eye Girl Version...it is miles beyond anything not counting 1984,85, and 98. For historical purposes, I would love to hear the even more neglected Computer Blue, and the album version of Let's Go Crazy with all the lyrics sung. The song doesn't even have that many lyrics, but Prince still feels the need to shorten them.

As for Computer Blue...he could simply have the girls change the intro: Donna? Yes Ida? Is the Water Warm? Yes Ida? Shall We Rock?

Well so here comes a moaner: I don't like it at all.

But that's just because I don't really appreciate his (or hardly any) rockmusic. There are some particular rocksongs that I like listening too, but this one and many others are not one of them.

So if this is what this 3rdeyegirl tour is only about, then I'm actually not that sad that they're staying in the US. I won't go around hating on the idea though: if he's feeling a rock vibe and wants to do a rocktour then it's fine but I just won't come (which he certainly wouldnt mind cause there are enough people who will).

I hope he'll do a more funkbased tour again soon too though 'cause Ive never seen him live and really love most of his (non-rock) funk/jazz/soul songs. I don't need the hits or his superpopular songs; as I said, I like most of his songs but just not the ''heavy'' ones.

I really, really do not like this but mostly because the recording sounds bad. It might be killer live... but not feeling it right now. I'd take this over the medley version from the last 5+ years any day though.

oh..I hope they put this up for download purchase

It looks like they don't care about that, maybe the webmaster they hired left. lol

This version is ... cool This band is getting tighter & tighter. There should be a reality show called "prince's music boot camp" While it isn't a new song, I will take the rework. The truckload has been hijacked by Vimeo. It could be worse they could be bringing back a standard version of "Peach" Never want to hear that song again. cool

It looks like the uploader Madison has exclusive permission to upload things on her site? They might have worked out a exclusive deal or Madison really likes Vimeo's preference settings.

And now for a shallow moment *googles Madison Dube photos* lol Can't find any, she is 20 years old though. wink Get all the material you can, before you join the list of M's "Mayte,Mani" lol
