WOW!! What a cool re-invention of Let's Go Crazy! I can't wait to hear what else P and the girls have in store. The constraints of being in a 4-piece with no keys/samplers/drum machines...etc can only be good for creativity.

Tell me about it, depending on costs, if there is no Uk date, then I might try and get over to Dublin...which I did do in 2008.... neutral

Why the hell does he feel the need to slow everything down? I like the songs full speed. Its nice once though! Can't he keep up now he's getting old?

At least the end solo is in tact.

Does it kinda remind you a little of how he played it at First Avenue in '83? A little maybe?

To me it does. With a little pep in his step, no horns and sweating all over the stage.

Listened 2 it a couple of times...dunno what 2 think yet, I do like the rocking guitars but...does it have much 2 do with "Let's Go Crazy"?

Oh well, mayb I'm used 2 the old "Let's Go Crazy" 2 much...it's a nice free Easter surprise smile

She is great and she doesn't hit every beat like a Linn but a slightley syncopated rhythm and

simple in the pocket. Personally, I perfer her over Blackwell (not sheila). Love her and she's

gorgeous to boot.

I appreciate the reinvention, for reinvention's sake.

But I'm not a fan of this version. Prince sounds (as he does in Screwdriver) like he's sneering, and while I dig the blues take on Let's Go Crazy, it DOES sound like the elevator has brought us down.

I don't want to hear the "go go go" cheesy chants like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, but part of the uplift of this song is the tempo... I'd a dug it even if they went into this bluesy vamp during what would be the breakdown in the extended version.

Still, it's great to hear him revisit his material in different ways.

I like it..reminds me of a rehearsal version from around '84. Anything is better than regurgitated hits just like the album so I can deal with this.

Art is not just about creation but also appreciation. I don't understand why that aspect of the experience of art is so dismissed. One does not have to have created something in order to appreciate it.

The GO GO GO is GONE GONE GONE!!!

I'm sure it'll come back next time he tours with back-up singers, but I've not really enjoyed a "Let's Go Crazy" for a few years because even during other parts of the song I was either dreading when that bit would come up or trying to recover from how annoying it was afterwards.

I was wondering whether they'd go ahead and work up more of the not-so-obvious drums/bass/guitar only tunes, or if they'd stick to songs that were already in that format, so I find this recording promising--even if I'm not sure it's completely successful (I've only listened once), it suggests that the setlists might go beyond things we've already heard from earlier stripped down bands.

So, why have they switched to using the Madison Dube vimeo account instead of their own Youtube one? Is there some advantage that I'm not seeing, or are they intent on scattering things around the internet?

The amazing thing is that there hadn't even been any negative responses. A couple of people on the fence, maybe, but no one who came down against it. TheEnglishGent seems to prefer a full speed version, but says "It's nice once though." Cbarnes3121 "still isn't impressed with Hannah's drumming" even though she is "bad as hell" (that is a little strange) but says "this version instantly had me." Serpan seems undecided, but says he likes "the rocking guitars" and it's a "nice Easter surprise" (with a happy face). NuPwrSoul admits "I'm not a fan of this version," but also claims to "dig the blues take" and would like it incorporated as a breakdown into a version which also includes the more standard upbeat elements.

The rest of the responses seem to be straight-up positive.

My own first response (which came after the "moaners" post) isn't fully committed, but I'm feeling generally positive too.

So while the moaners might come eventually, they don't seem to be here yet.

Edit: Fonkyman posted while I was writing this--okay, that's a negative response.
