Some footage of the Chi gigs leave the impression that Prince is ova.
Sad times to see your idol going this route.
Since he nearly dissolved his once been tight band NPG to nothingness these days, he's on a man show. I imagine in 10 years time he'll grow his afro and do the DJ job standing next to the piano. Playing old cover medleys on turntables and his hits...!!!
Who knew...scandalous, indeed!

Who knew...Prince is only OVA...as much as you want him to be. For some who proclaim he is OVA, however, he is obviously not... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I don’t think P is over, but I’d admit he seems to be sinking away from any relevance, and it’s all his own doing.
I think we are still seeing the effects of his emancipation 16 years ago. Unshackled by a record company, Prince’s obsessionwith control has grown exponentially.
The internet clubs did not fail though lack of interests by fans; they failed because of Prince’s obsession of not being held accountable for anything. Like his employees, he wants everyone to trust him to deliver, and he rarely does. Prince became disillusioned when he couldn’t control his fans like he does him workers.
Some fans hail him as a great business man, but the fact is he has stumbled badly through business his entire life. He has got lucky on occasions, but it is his ability to tour that has kept him afloat.
A good business man doesn’t sue his customer base. A good business man does not ignore promoting and re-releasing his finest work. A good business man doesn’t restrict his product because he doesn’t like music as “ones and zeros”.
That’s bad business and, basically, eccentricity. Prince is a self fulfilling prophecy. He is still acting like a spoilt child. If you won’t play by my rules, you can’t have my candy. He’s even said it in the song.
He doesn’t like the internet now, yet it was his vehicle of choice 10 years ago. Why has he gone off it? Ones and zeros? Rubbish, it’s because he couldn’t get the internet to play his game.
The internet, that first liberated him, has essentially put Prince back under a form of control, which he can’t stand. Google and Apple became Warner. By failing to accept the new order, it made him look out of touch and less relevant, so he threw his toys out of the pram again.
But he is a hypocrite. If he doesn’t like the internet, then why does he still use the likes of Dr Funkenberry and Andy Allo to peddle his goods on there?
I think the problem is, he’s waiting for someone to come along, stroke his ego and offer him money up front for another “killer” album. It’s never going to happen. He’s burned too many bridges.
I still enjoy all of the new albums, and I would love another one, but I can’t disagree with some who say he has perhaps gone stale.
I’m more worried that his live show is now showing signs of going stale too. Even some of my casual fan friends have said the live shows are becoming a bit samey and cabaret. When ticket sales begin to slide, and they will, I worry Prince will blame everyone but himself and pull up that drawbridge too. .

Actually his current condition related 2 releasing music is by his choice so he is OVA as much as he wants 2 be.

I totally agree.
"But why is there still so much interest? Is it, as Thomas says, his elusiveness? With Mercury, the curtain went up and came down again, leaving us none the wiser about his real life. He didn't live into the internet era, and so never had a chance to destroy his own mystique by tweeting and sharing. Twenty-first century rock stars are handmaidens to their fans, compelled to expose their lives to scrutiny, whereas, with Mercury, there was a kind of lordly absence of detail.
"If he was here now, they'd have wanted him to go on Dancing with the Stars and The X-Factor and you name it. He'd have hated that. People's lives are now open books – is there anything we don't know about Lady Gaga?"

What's got Mercury to do with Prince? At the moment his stage output is more similar to Whitney than Mercury. Whitney disappointed people cause she had lost her voice. Prince disappoints people, cause he can't be arsed to check sound/tech issues at venues. Remember not everybody is a Prince fan, and not everybody goes to all his gigs.
People are just disappointed. Period! If he continues that way, people will stay away from his gigs on first night, cause he's lazy and doesn't care. Plus I came to the conclusion that his latest bla bla on how the music industry is and his reasons for not wanting to release an album are complete nonsense. He can't keep up with the current music mojo, he has no inspiration and can't do a good song at the moment (see rnr affair?!), so he's gotta find an excuse and what's better than to say the music climate is not ready for a genuis like me?
Nonsense!

We still on this bullshit?
The people crowing on about Prince being "over" are people who are just upset that he doesn't do what they specifically want him to do.
They think they know more than someone who's been in the business over 30 years.
In their heads they think they should be his manager, lawyer, accountant, music producer, pastor, and lover all in one.
They think they know what's best for him when it reality, they don't know shit. [Edited 10/1/12 21:33pm] JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

You know, it's funny you make the Whitney comment because that's exactly how I felt after the show on the 24th - it reminded me of that pitiful opening night show Whitney did on her last tour, where everything just seemed like an unrehearsed mess and people paid lots of money and got a shitty show.

Whitney was on crack, though.

Which makes things even more sad because at least she had an excuse for her shows being a mess. Prince however doesn't have any excuse; he just doesn't seem to give a fuck whether he puts on a quality show or not as long as he gets paid.

Wait, Prince has one bad show and all of a sudden he doesn't give a fuck?
STOP!!!

All of a sudden? Not exactly.
I think this issue kind of fits into the picture of Prince's moody behavior all around. Wouldn't he be that rich he couldn't afford to behave as childishly as he does. Not paying in time, not doing what he orginally agreed to do, canceling projects etc.
