I hear what you're saying and can understand. I'm more on the same page with Chad. I don't really care anymore about his business decisions or how he delivers his music because no matter how he does it, I can always get my hands on it. I just want to hear his music and experience it. As for the greatest hits tours, I still go because I guess I can never get tired of it. Life is short and I rather experience his shows as much as I can until he's no longer with us. I'm riding this train till the very end cool Looking back, its been a great 30 year ride biggrin

[Edited 8/30/12 7:15am]

No doubt about that.

I guess I'm sad 2 see the train pulling into the station.

Is the fact that Prince hasn't released a new CD this year really such a heart wrenching, emotional event? Evidenced by some of the current threads on this site it's obvious that some of the fans are bored by the lack of output. Google back a little further and these were some of the same fans calling for him to take a break. Well he listened to the fans finally! Be careful what you ask for cause you just might get it!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

The thing is, I don't care what state he is in as far as his career goes, because he did everything he can do. He already has hits and he's been out for a long motherfucking time, lasted more than an average artist could released a shit load of albums. The music is great to me. That's all that matters. I couldn't give less of a shit how Extraloveable 2011 is doing on the charts because I love that song.

I haven't been a supporter as long as you have but so what? I'm still a supporter. No matter what his religion is, what his political views are, or who he's dating currently. That's HIS business. I love him because he is talented as fuck. Still is, too. I saw him live a year and a half ago for the first time and it blew my fucking mind because I know in my heart he's still got it.

I wouldn't be on this site if I thought Prince was "OVA" because I'd head over to other websites dedicated to artists I think are epic. I think Prince is epic, so I am here. Even though I have to deal with stupid threads like this written by delusional people.

Seeing Prince in concert has nothig 2 do with my comments.

[Edited 8/30/12 4:16am]

Don't bother try to make sense of this situation with neonwhatever his/her name is. Regardless of what Prince releases, it will not be judged on the quality of the art but rather will be held in a positive light because of the devotion to Prince.

But not Prince as an artist but Prince the one man band, the talent, the genius. This fool doesn't care about the music... It's a weird psychological mess as to why people become obsessed with their favorite artists.

Unfortunately for all of us, discussions get sidetracked with groupie love.

You want to talk about "making sense"? Re-read your post and try again. You're not making any point whatsoever.

Only condescending fucks decide for other people what they "REALLY care about".

Get a life and come back when somebody has actually ASKED for your bullshit input.

Well, you know, you can't put finality to a musician's/artist's career plans unless they do it themselves. With Prince's 35-year plus music career, I see no end to it, anytime soon unless Prince makes that announcement himself. So in the meantime, I will just enjoy and appreciate all the music he shared with his fans over the years, and the music I purchased of his, as well as, the great memories of all his concerts I attended.

I feel u. It has come 2 point where now, if Prince came 2 my city, I would not go and see him. Not because he has lost it live, (he is better than ever live) I'm just tired of the same "greatest" hits setlist. One of the things I loved about Prince was his tours where he would play a majority of "new" material. Those days seem 2 be gone as well.I've seen Prince live so many times I've lost count, so seeing a greatest hits show in any form just does not work 4 me.

I'd take a Prince greatest hits show over a new hits by any other artist. I've seen him 21 times, and each show was different, even the multiple ones from the same tour. To me, the song selection is only part of the show. I like to hear the little changes he makes, and watching him operate as a band director while keeping the crowd engaged is a show in itself. Also, the vibe of a Prince show is electric, few performers electrify a crowd like him.

I dig that but I've heard all of the pre 2001 stuff way 2 many times. I'd love 2 hear the newer material and not some weak medley arranged versions.

I’ve liked Prince since I first heard the guy, which was on a friend’s boombox when I was a 9 year old girl (who had no idea what “Jack U Off” meant!). I will always like the guy and his wonderful music. Even if the latest releases aren’t the greatest releases, there never fails to be a keeper or two on every release (for me “Dance 4 Me,” “Dreamer,” “Laydown,” etc.), so though I bide my time listening (and listening) to his older stuff, I eagerly await new stuff.

One of the things I simply do not understand, is this – how can a person considered by many to be a bonafide musical genius, be so off the mark when it comes to business decisions. I lost count over the last few years at the times Prince appeared in MN papers’ headlines with the words “sued” “lawsuit” or “legal battle” next to his name. He never even released 20Ten in the U.S., did he? Once it was released via papers and mags in Europe, people put it online so buying it in the states sort of became moot for many anyhow. The 3121 perfume deal ended badly. Some gigs he had lined up ended badly. He’s had property problems in Chanhassen. Maybe he’s just trying to get his house in order and right the wrong. Perhaps he’s taking this time off to rest and relax (which he more than deserves). I’d like to think he’s been excavating the vault, polishing up those gems for us. Selfishly, I hope it’s the latter.

They proclaim him irrelevant, out of touch, vindictive, money hungry and pretty much label him with every negative trait imaginable then thirst for a new CD every 11 month and 29 days! If he never released any new music anymore, I could care less. I still buy all his new releases but I don't get excited in the least anymore and sit and count the days until it's released like I used to because I know before I even buy it that it's only going to be decent and not absolutely great. I don't see it as Prince's fault either because looking at the music scene in general of the last 20 years, there's nothing out there to inspire him to record something great. It's hard to just completely 100% tune out the current music scene and not be exposed to it in even the slightest way because it's all over the TV, in the commercials, coming from passing cars on the street, and even on this very website. A totally great album from Prince would sound like he's never even had a hint of exposure to current music and on every recent album, there's always things coming up in songs and even in whole tracks like "Incense and Candles" and "Laydown" that it is either influencing his sound, or he's selling out trying to gain new listeners who are into that type of bullshit. The only way I'd get fully excited about a new Prince album coming out is if he were releasing something old from the vault that was recorded years before any of the current music was even thought of being invented.

Then there's also the way you buy music these days that's no longer exciting. All the actual "record stores" have now closed and there's nothing left but bullshit places like Best Buy, Target, etc. that never really carried a variety of music in the first place. Plus, I hate giving my money to monopolies like these if I can avoid it. It's getting to the point that if you want a new album, you have to order it from the internet. Well, when you do that, you don't get it instantly, you have to wait for it to come in the mail. Now they are selling downloads over the internet these days which is rediculous because if you're going to download something, you might as well do a little digging and find it for free and save your money because you're not going to have a physical copy whether you pay for it or not if you go the download route.

So no, it's not the same at all. The thrill is gone and I don't see it as Prince's fault but rather the music industry's fault.

Andy is a four letter word.

There was a time when I was fully on board with the stuff that Prince does regarding his career. After all..........it is his journey. That said, I truly believe that Prince has been successful in killing or severly limiting what remains of his career from a record releasing standpoint. I won't rehash what we already know, but his current stance on the internet, youtube, distribution methods, and religion have all contributed 2 destroying (my opinion) what was a fantastic career.

I am sad 2 see this day come....................but it is here.

sad

I don't believe the day has come that Prince is out of it but I must say that I am a little nervous. I mean it's been 2 long years going on 3 that he has not released an album and he promised he wouldn't until the internet and bootlegging and what not went away (which will never happen) so I mean unless he gets creative there is a chance there wont be any new stuff which will be a real kick in the nuts for his fans. Part of me says good for him. This is his music his life and his beliefs and you dont bend them for anyone but the other part of me says Hey! WTF! we're your fans and if you got it in you to keep making music (which we know you do) then make it. Dont hold out! forget success forget money forget staying relevant! fuck it we r your fans and we want more! do it for us! you're a musician not a just a pop star who depends on image (like madge) so there is no need to worry about people saying 'your too old' or 'time to throw in the towel'. She receives comments like that because she depends mostly on image not talent. When you have talent you're timeless no matter what age you perform. Do you hear anybody telling stevie wonder to throw in the towel? he's much older than madonna yet he plugs along with the utmost respect by everyone. Anyways I hope Prince comes back with a new album and does a world tour. I would love to see him in concert again!!!

Prince can turn it on or off at will, always could. He can do what he wants, he's done more than enough already and I doubt he'll ever stop, genius' don't stop generally until they die. I don't see him getting his juices flowing though when their is so much negativity about his new music. Like Tyson or Ali when they got older, people just would not overlook any little slip up because of just how dominant they were at one time. Any little slip up was a sign that all hope was lost. Same with Prince watchers. But, I say, he can do whatever he wants it's his life.
