No Shelby? Then I am not interested.

Seriously though, this is one frustrating thread.

I really hope I get to see this one day (my sleuthing had come to ought;(

Google the title of the dvd. It's really that simple.

nod

That's how I found it. In one of the "usual spots," to be sure...but Google is definitely your friend.

Downloaded Disc 2 this morning - so I have something to look forward to after work. cool

Isn't it? That steady bass line, her expression and that just the hip going back and forth... lurking

My only (pedantic) criticism of these performances is the lack of Hohner!

Funny, that's what I love about it. I don't really like the tone on the hohner, particularly for rock stuff.

When he tries to do leads with it, they always feel a bit empty imo.

Five words: While. My. Guitar. Gently.
Weeps. ;-)

I like the tone of the Strat, it's just that damn tremelo/whammy bar. It makes the solos a little messy IMHO.

Why haven't these DVDs made it onto the torrent circuit as yet? The download sites are fiddly and frustrating to use.

Great DVDs. Such a shame he couldn't have released them to his fan club at the time, generating some good will since all those folk will doubtless have these now anyway.

One theory for their non-release did present itself on a viewing however. The top half of his face looks a little 'pinched' during the close-ups.

do you have it displaying in the correct aspect ratio?

lol

it was actually a serious answer/question, as for some reason when i stream to my plasma from the pc, it automatically displays in academy ratio which suggests the IFO doesn't have the anamorphic widescreen flag selected correctly. i've not yet opened it up to check and correct it

i also recall the videos on flotuslower were in the wrong aspect ratio too, which suggests they used some one click tool and didn't know what the fuck they were doing and ripped from the same dvd

^ that's because they didn't bother to correct the individual VOB-files, they are still in 4:3 instead of 16:9.

A ten year old could have fixed this in a few minutes.

it's just a header change isn't it? no re-encoding. i'll fix mine before i burn em. haven't had time to look at it before due to upgrading pc's

^ They fixed it with the ifo-file, which prompts your player to display the dvd in 16:9, which should be fine for common use. BUT... if you rip individual tracks, for example for your Ipod or something else, the aspect ratio will be messed up because they didn't fix the VOB-files. (something that can be done in no time, without qualityloss)

my streamer must ignore the aspect ratio from the IFO's and read from the VOBs even though it plays the menus and everything else fine. i just had to adjust the zoom setting

i've not watched an actual dvd disc in a long time. streaming FTW!

Jon Lech Johansen's work really fixed the issue of content protection on DVD.

And think of this: a bootleggar `protecting` content...

I forgot to mention. Do the bootleggers not see the hysterical irony in copy protecting a bootleg DVD? So the bootleggers don't want to get bootlegged, huh? Sweet!

i never noticed any pixelation on a decent setup.

So what do you imply?

I mentioned the setup to explain it is not the cheapest stuff and a CRT should mask some of the pixellation but it doesn't.

Should I rip the DVD to provide some screenshots?

(yes, that's a short one before I head abck to work...)

there is nothing wrong with the dvds. maybe you got a crap download

I see no DVD-R or +R, I see a pressed disc. Are you from the quality guarantee department?

try playing on another setup and see how it looks or play on your pc. as you say, the CRT should mask a lot of things, especially if it's SD and you have connected by scart instead of component. presumably you don't have the same problems on normal commercial discs

My other DVD is `even more high end`. biggrin

I'll dust it off and see what it will show on the monitor.

Did you check ATCLUIM again?

I've downloaded from two places (although I guess could have been the same rip uploaded by 2 different people). I've played the burned discs on 3 different players, and played the vobs direct on an LCD TV over my LAN. In all the scenarios I'm also seeing pixellation on DVD 2, and in particular on the above track - Johns shirt on his close ups, the smokey scenes, Renatos face in the background of shots of Prince. So you're not the only one Udo! I believe my set up to be "decent"! But I'm not familiar with changing header info on vobs, but will give it a try, once I've found some info on how to do it!

Thanks for confirming.

FWIW: My NAD plays the pressed DVDs in widescreen without tweaking.

I have not burned these to disc, I watch video direct from my HD to my pc.

There are a few clips where there appears to be pixelation, I noticed it on Blackwells drumsticks a few times, but it's not that much of a problem for it to be distracting.

I never paid a penny for these dvd's so i'm not bothered.

Well, finally was in the mood to play that DVD-set. (NAD DVD into CRT (!) SD TV via SCART)

Quite enjoyable, aside from the memories.

Did you notice the pixellation on DVD2? (and no, I wasn't even paying close attention; see ATCLUIM)

Even with two discs, one per show, the DVD format shows it's limits. Or is it bad encoding?

i think his red suit interferred with the technology shrug

I don't really watch the DVD's, listen to them for the greater part. (and still I caught this issue...)

So I am wondering if they hit a DVD limitation due to sudden need of bandwidth in the video stream at that point in the performance or that they just did a sloppy job and that the video quality could have been better or even close to perfect; who can answer this?

On one side they went for quality (and money) and used two (single layer?) discs; OTOH we have this lack of quality showing.

So what is going on here?
