I don't think this post is getting enough replies of excitement.. You won't get anything better in yearrrs in terms of dvd releases (officialy and unofficialy . Is it because it's not in hd?? Like i said in another reply i'll take 2 dvds of the show over an official HD dvd release from prince.

[Edited 9/10/11 3:37am]

In your opinion. Not everyone will think that this is going to be the best release in years. I don't think it has anything to do with them not being blu-ray, I think it may be simply because these performances were quite average.

Don't get me wrong, i'm looking forward to seeing these shows, but i'm sure I will not be alone in thinking that there are far better performances out there on video and audio.

And yes, I agree that an unofficial release of pretty much anything would be better than what Prince would present us with.

Thanks for speaking the TRUTH, DG!! This may be an excellent video as far as quality, and I do wanna see the show, but I'm really not SUPER excited about it. I've heard the audio in all of its glory, and the performance was indeed quite average. He stands there playing a guitar most of the time. There's really nothing to "see" with these performances. So, while I would like to check the shows out, I'm not drooling with anticipation for it either.

This sums it up perfectly: boring and studied show, nothing to see, but great proshot footage. (thanks to the Swiss TV crew, Eye only had to create a menu)

This is as far as I'm concerned nowhere near the 84 Birthday Show in terms of excitement and setlist, even if they did release it in HD.

But of course I will download it once available for archival purposes. wink

Sorry guys, but gimme the musician Prince standing there playing guitar all the time instead of entertaining the crowd letting them sing along to basic versions of Raspberry beret and Kiss...These concerts are top notch, and it's fucking frustrating seeing people almost complaining this is coming out....

Frustating? Why? Why is it so important to you that everyone loves and is excited by the fact that these are being released?

So long as you are pleased with this news, then that is all that should matter.

Well, maybe I did not explain myself that well...It's just frustrating that people almost complain these are coming out....I did not say that people are complaining because they don't like these concerts. My opinion is these concerts were great, someone else's opinion will surely be different. But being almost annoyed that a pro-shot DVD is coming out...come on.

Anyway, can't wait till the 17 biggrin

Really fucking lame that people don't like when Prince is playing guitar amazingly well and actually trying. He sang the entire length of the show and sounded way better than he does nowadays.

Who in the hell is complaining that this is being released??? No one is saying we wish it wasn't coming out. What I'm saying (and I see there are others who agree) is that the show is relatively BORING. Glad to see ANYTHING come out, but I just can't share the unbridled enthusiasm that some of you have for this release.

Why in the hell would it frustrate ANYONE if others didn't share in your super excitement? Why is my enthusiasm dampening yours??? confused

Well, I would certainly hope that he would if all he was going to do was stand there and play his guitar (no matter HOW good his playing is).

People complain when he does the hits, so here is the chance to get a DVD without all the hits and guess what? You complain.

No pleasing some.

There y'all apologists go again. Somebody says something that you don't like about your hero, and you gt all defensive with, "Well, let's see YOU do better!!" Um, this is totally not about if I thought he was better than me or not. You all fall back on the same stupid argument, and for what? Because not every singe user on this site unabashedly loves Prince the way some of you do?? Get over it.

Prince has built a large part of reputation on his live shows, and it was because he actually put on a show, which included terrific music and instament playing abilities, but also showmanship. And to ME, him just standing at the mic, playing guitar, and making orgasm faces are notches below how his live shows used to be.

It's a terribly annoying argument. Despite my love for this show, I can understand why some would not enjoy it and I wasn't trying to "sway" anyone's opinion or defend Prince. For the most part, he's left me cold for the past three years or so (Lopez Tonite was an all-time low for my fandom), but I've always felt like this show was a rare bright spot in this 'era.' Shrug.

this show was probably more about showcasing his skills on guitar and singing as it didn't seem to involve a lot dancing and intercaction with the crowd. BUT Playing guitar and singing well by standing still is NOT as easy as u made it out to be. U must not be a fan of Jimi Hendrix shows either then cause that's all he would do during his shows minus the good singing. Not trying to convert anyone as i couldn't care less if anyone dislikes the show on here but when i see a reply i disagree with i have to reply to it which i did.. I understand that the concert isn't your cup of tea WE GET IT by now but acting like he went on stage and didn't do shit is crazy talk to me. To each his own though..
