it's almost always been that way with live material. i remember the promise of the ultimate live experience coming in 1999. the list of aborted and promised projects from Prince must be lengthy.

First the soundboard recordings of the truly mindblowing Montreaux shows and now pro-shot DVDs too!! Taking into account the amazing Melkweg shows we already got christmas has truly come early this year.

I can't wait to watch these two shows in excellent quality, it'll be a trip and then some.

both shows were filmed with 7 HD camera's so the one who sold it to this label surely sold the HD files..

This one really needs a Blu Ray release like it was meant 2 be.

Not everyone has a BluRay press in their backyard.

Maybe the cost is still a bit high for small runs?

Or BluRay market penetration is thought of as still quite low?

(Why get a BluRay player anyway?)

you're right about that.. it really is a small market

but: it would be nice and it's not that much work to put it online in Blu ray format, just like the latest shows we've been to (NSJ, SDF,..), after the DVD is sold out.. they would have made their money and show the community that they care for HD footage

The quality is going to be pro shot and if its the same quality as the shit from this show that's been spreading around for almost 2 yrs, then ya you will do fine without the HD.

Less nitpicking, more enjoyment. It's free.

Prince must be crazy to have passed on releasing this. It's obvious we would all buy it. Now, he'll just have another reason to be mad at bootlegs, but, really, it's his own fault obviously.

I'll DL this when it's available & if he ever realizes his mistake and releases it (yeah right) then I'll still buy it...

It would be nice to know some details, backgrounds...

Notice how Prince ALWAYS seems to be the one with "contractual problems", and that that's the reason why something doesn't get done or released. He's got more excuses than a bit.

tru, if P released it he would but his "fav" from both shows and make what he thinks is the "ultimate" show, and that would b sad

Pretty sure that the Montreux Jazz Festival own the rights to this performance, so you would only see a release through whoever they appoint (Eagle Rock, if they're still going). All the performances are filmed - I was in a band that performed there in '95 - some of us were given a VHS copy of it that night and an official DVD release followed some years later.

I've seen many clips from these shows around the interweb. All pro shot & all had the Montreaux Jazz Festival watermark on them... I'm sure this is just a mastered & polished version of that source...

It's pretty great footage & soundboard audio too, if it's what I'm thinking it is...

Should be cool.

Which begs the question why is it P can't see live releases are where he could capitalise most!

I dont think so. He wants us to come to his concerts, that's where he makes the most $$$. If he'd constantly release live DVDs, a lot of his older fans would stay at home and wait for the DVD/BluRay.

And you also have to put a lot of work in this releases and would be pirated immediately after the release. I really don't see that he would make lots of money with it.

It probably means he doesn't read the fine print of the CONtracts he signs.

I don't think this post is getting enough replies of excitement.. You won't get anything better in yearrrs in terms of dvd releases (officialy and unofficialy . Is it because it's not in hd?? Like i said in another reply i'll take 2 dvds of the show over an official HD dvd release from prince.

Really excited about this release!! However, a Blu-ray of the Zürich show in addition to this would be more than welcome..
