So you don't think Prince has plans for re releasing/remastering The Times catologue which is why he's holding on to the name.
If this is his plan,I wish he would hurry up with it We're not getting any younger, lol. |

What worries me is that most people won't even realise it's out there. If you search 'The Time' on Amazon, it doesn't even appear....this is almost like P is trying to kill them at birth before they get a chance of success...
You're right, but let's be honest.....even if they were able to use their original name, the CD still won't sell very many copies.Nobody sells alot of CDs these days unless you're Lady Gaga or Lil 'Wayne That's why I don't understand why Prince was making such a big fuss about them using their original name. This project is really just a 'gift' for longtime fans who want new Time music. It's not gonna sell 10 million copies, lol.
Even if it was going to sell a ton, why would Prince have a problem with that beyond sour grapes? |

Because he doesn't want The Time to get attention for their project. He hates the fact that Morris Day continued the Time without him all these years. It's that simple because they grew out of Prince's vision but soon the group grew out of Prince's reach. In a sense I bet Prince sees it as his band w/out out his leadership at the helm. Having Terry and Jimmy back probably makes him angry as well. Just another jab in the eye. "Look we got em back for the reunion" |

What you said makes alot of sense. We all know that Prince is a notorious control freak. He hates the fact that these guys made an album without his involvement. And if it becomes successful, don't expect Prince to congratulate them, lol. |

You have to be the most negative poster I've ever seen on this forums. You seem to hate Prince if your stream of negative posts are anything to go by. Unless it's about something Prince did 30 years ago I don't think I've ever seen you say something positive about him.

this is a bad move, if he's blocking the name...that REALLY makes me worried about his way treating people... ! if they are gonna do it anyway, and 'dr frankenstein' is not to giving 'the monster' it's name back, that would piss me off completely...if it's not warner, but him blocking the thing...hm. not very gentleman-like! my respect 4 morris and the fellas for coming out the closet, whatever we will learn about that...I'M VERY CURIOUS ABOUT THAT...! As much as I'm inclined to be skeptical of Prince's motives when it comes to this sort of thing, he could be acting on the advice of his lawyers. I doubt anyone is going to make much money off the back catalog of The Time or The Family in future years, but Purple Rain is another matter. That was an album by Prince and the Revolution, not Prince, but it's in his interest to claim that he was running the whole show and thus the master should belong to him when the 35 year clock has run out. He would then claim ownership over everything else just to be consistent if nothing else. He may be going overboard in asserting rights to the names of the associated bands in addition to the music, and he may not care much about the feelings of the musicians he's worked with, but it doesn't mean he's acting purely out of spite. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach. |

Simple: The Time without Prince's leadership is not The Time. They're all damn fine musicians who can (supposedly) do it without him: good for them, and I genuinely wish them luck. I'll probably buy the new album.
But they're not The Time... The Time was Prince's music, Prince's style, Prince's humour - just executed (albeit brilliantly) by 7 other people. |

I think this situation shows us why it's a bad idea to try to control people and mold them into your image. After awhile, people want their own identity and they get tired of being told what to do,which is why The Time broke up in 1984.This is also why Prince didn't have much success when he tried to do this with other bands and proteges (The Family and Mazarati). It can ruin friendships and create alot of bad feelings. |

Same here.
It's Prince's thing. When he want's to release an album he does. Whether as The Time or The Family, or Madhouse. End of Story. |

I think Prince should be thrilled that The Time and The Family are back together, with new albums. It puts the spotlight back on the TALENTED proteges that he produced, and it might make the world forget about Carmen Elektra,T.C. Ellis and sone of the other whack proteges that came later |

I think he should have given them more control.Imagine if you were Jam or Lewis and you had these amazing songs and ideas, but you were forced to stay quiet, take orders and not contribute to the music in any way. That's not a good situation. |

Prince is a dick for pulling this stunt....There's no other way to say it...But you are jumping into another world here...lol
Prince has allowed Morris to tour off the "Time" banner for decades...This is why him not allowing the Time to make a record with the Time name is so ass backwards....You already let the Time perform live with the name for years...Why not let them make an album? |

Why is it so difficult for some of you to understand?
They can release any album on their own as long as it not labeled a "Time" album. Prince IS "The Time", the members were just props to begin with. Talented props, but props none the less.
