Well, from a more detailed perspective, it sounds like Prince was actually coyly criticizing the French government from exercising too much control over personal freedom, specifically he seemed to be addressing their recent move to outlaw Muslim women from wearing identity concealing garb even if they are protesting in favor of their right to wear what they want to to practice their religion.

I think you have may have completely misunderstood what was said in that interview, and then formed a judgement based in your mistaken belief of what Prince said.

It's fascinating that despite this information having been revealed, people are still jumping to judgement based on misinformation! The power of "legit" publication compounded with the tendency to judge without knowledge has the momentum of a tsunami wave.

How do you put the phrase that it is fun being in Islamic countries into this?

France isn't an Islamic country BTW

""…the “How can you stop people dressing” bit was in response to a follow-up question about the French burqa ban, not about muslim countries." - Dorian Lynskey

That's one of the journalists posting. Can you imagine how Prince likes to argue and shock, often with humor. A big news item concerning France recently is the law outlawing women from wearing their religious garb. You can imagine Prince saying something like this (in order to promote religious freedom to wear what they want to:

"I think the French are wrong, they shouldn't ban the burka, just as much as they shouldn't ban the miniskirt. I mean, I think burka's are just as cool to these women. I even had my ex-wife wear one in a video (even though she's Puerto Rican and loves the bacon). All these people aren't evil or reprehensible. Let them be free! Free to change their mind. Have you heard my song called 'free'? I've been to Muslim countries. They were cool by me (although they looked at my face and made me wear a burka). I think they should do what they want. Of course they will not be allowed to enter New Jerusalem. Unless they're free change the their mind. Most anytime. Can I talk to you about something? Can I give you this Watchtower magazine? Wigga please, can't I get a witness?"

3) One might like to question the real motivation of those criticising him so massively now. It is not exactly the first silly thing Prince has said or done in his life, you know... So, from what I observe here, the motivation is quite clear: folks still dislike his JW conversion, and now they can have a fieldday because he said something stupid they relate to his religious views. Hey, that's your good right, but at least, you should be open and crystal clear about that imo.

you think it's JUST this? it's not just this, it's the overwhelming accumulation of bullshit over the last 10-15 years.

So these people have the right to be assholes to Prince b/c they are the ones stupid enough to continue supporting/listening to him for all these years? Lets face it, if you continue to listen to, support, go to concerts, etc of an artist who you really hate and causes you this much hatred, then you are stupid, crazy, or both.

If people are that upset about the so called bullshit Prince has somehow put them through, then they are free to sign off from this website and their Prince fandom. No one would care!! And Prince sure as hell won't beg them back! For every old fan that drops off the bandwagon, a new one jumps on. Same with all artists. Prince would still have tons of fans worldwide who either 1. ignore his personal decisions and just focus on the music, or 2. Aren't affected by his personal choices and love him and his music anyway! Oh, and he'd still be selling out shows worldwide because he is one hell of a musician!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Prince sabotages himself time and time again.

This is so true...

we all know we have to accept it more or less. His immense talent on the one side and his crazyness on the other side...

But sometimes it is damn hard to accept... wink

What makes me feel a bit sad is that apparently he spends a lot of time studying the bible...

Which is ok, but nothing really great seems to come out of it..only naive views and strange habits...

I hope he will sometimes concentrate again on his music the way he used to do!

Not religion, no talking about digital or analog, thinking about selling cds via papers or at concerts...

Just creating songs again that get the attention of everybody who loves music

What is up with the idea that Prince, a human being, can't have an opinion about something other than music? He is free to have an opinion about everything like all of us. Who cares if it isn't popular with the majority? Prince has always gone outside the box, its what most folks love about him!!

This very topic is bringing out the hypocrites big time. Its ok for them to have an opinion about him and what he does, but when he reveals his opinion about something, people are calling him all kinds of bad names and saying he should just shut up. WTF?

No he shouldn't just shut up, he should speak his mind. He's always brought attention to pressing issues, he needs to keep doing it. Its about time someone in showbiz opened their mouth about real issues instead of just playing by Hollywoods rules to stay famous and get rich. Prince rocks for saying what he wants and doing what he wants, he aint breaking no laws! I'm all for that!!

Prince doesn't care if it ruins him image or doesn't get him airplay....that's already been tried and it failed to ruin him. He is still here after all these years and is still relevant. It hasn't even been a year since he sold out MSG, and has played numerous shows since then that have sold out, and he's playing more in the future. And its not his first time saying something controversial. He has that right.

I'm so sick of everyone trying to be politically correct. Things are bound to be said that will offend somebody. Someone is always bitching and moaning and unhappy. Life goes on. Those that don't like it can jump off the bandwagon. Or better yet, quit being so judgemental of everyone else, and just enjoy what is most important when it comes to Prince....his music.

When it comes to dating someone or being friends with them, then yes you can dig deeper into them and judge what they do to see if it would be right in your life, but if you are just getting something from them, whether it be music, a carwash, a piece of pie, etc. all that should matter is what you are getting from them. Nothing more.

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

In th US, free speech is protected, even if it offends somebody!! Don't think so? KKK hate rallies are protected by this very idea and happen just down the road from me quite often. I don't like it, but it is what it is. I'm not saying that you have to agree with Prince....what I said was "people shouldn't be advocating for Prince to shut up, he has the right to an opinion like everybody else."

I didn't say people can't criticize him for what he says, its the idea that he "shouldn't say anything, just create music" is wrong. These people can't justify their right of free speech by attempting to deny someone else of theres.

Prince didn't chuck anybody off the bandwagon, he started being himself and doing what he wanted to do regardless of if he sold records or not. If folks are constantly upset or offended by what he is saying, then if they had any sense in their heads, they'd stop paying attention to him. If they still want to enjoy his music, put on a cd and enjoy their life, instead of constantly returning here for more misery.

I find it hilarious how so many find fault in the idea that "if you don't like something and it makes you so upset, then stop indulging in it." It makes perfect sense! Its like going to a restaurant that keeps messing up your order, why keep going when you can pick another restaurant? Why keep buying a brand of cereal that you don't like anymore? It doesn't make sense! It makes you look crazy!! Or it makes people think that you really are just here to be negative and cause drama...which is true of some people.

And those are the first one to say "I hate Prince, so it makes perfect sense that I spend all day on a board dedicated to him. Yet I am more sane than someone else on this board who loves Prince and defends him and don't criticize him." That logic all from people who call Prince crazy!! Ha!!!

You really don't get it do you?

When some says "Prince would be better off not saying anything", they are not secretly hoping Prince is reading the thread. They are not talking to Prince, or telling him what to do, they are expressing an opinion on what they think Prince should do in their eyes.

You on the other hand are coming on talking directly to folk telling them what they should or shouldn't do. That is completely hypocritcal.

It only makes one person look crazy.

And....you don't seem to realise that a fan site does not have a entry rule that if you don't like the artist now, you have to get off. Someone is welcome on here that might hate Prince now and anything he has done since 1990. But they may love Parade. It is not for you or I to dictate how a "fan" must behave or what they can like.

But you keep trying. Why don't you take your own advice and let people say what they want to say, rather than trying to tell everyone who they should be? You'll be a lot happier.

Are we REALLY going spend time deliberating whether there will ever be new Prince music? AGAIN? how many times has he said he's not going to record or release any new music? Quite a few. Prince has even retired once or twice, remember?

Looking forward to a new album.

Are we REALLY going spend time deliberating whether there will ever be new Prince music? AGAIN? how many times has he said he's not going to record or release any new music? Quite a few. Prince has even retired once or twice, remember? Looking forward to a new album.

yeahthat Bottom-line.

whether he records another album or not, he's brought joy, inspiration and an expanded view of a lot of things into my life. i'm grateful.

he's done more than enough imo, anything extra will be icing on that sweet, fat, juicy cake of funk and tom-foolery.

bring it or not, i'm satisifed. biggrin heart

OK I love Prince, but im feeling things that i dont like. I used to love Free Prince. personally i dont agree with authoritarism, i dont like it. I dont need represive rules to know what is right or wrong and that includes religion.

It seems that the Prince we used to know has no intentions of coming back, i still love his music, but his music feel diffrnt a few years ago and i know why.

I hope you dont feel to lonely in the top of the mountain Prince.

Peace, Love & sorry for my english

Some of you are taking this shit way to seriously.

All Prince was trying to say was he admired the Islamic faith and was expressing his interested.

Of course ole blubby has was either misquoted or doesn't have a good filter lol

Their are Muslim women who respect and enjoy Muslim customs

and then their are some who don't.

So please don't generalize and i see some people inadvertently pushing their beliefs in this discussion.

Please please please bracket lol

There are so many oppinionated people here on the org and in the world where their point of view is what's best. It's like asking a random person what they'd do about the economy and turn things around when that's the president and house's job.

When it comes to Prince, I accept who he is now, I love the music put out now, I love the concerts he performs now and when it comes to my religion, Al Islaam, I'm just happy to hear / read one of my favorite musicians / lyricists comment about it.

Perhaps since I became a fan in 1996 I don't have that Hardcore belief that the pre S.O.T.T. material is far better then what's out now. I love it all, yo ...

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

He's been dead for 18 years. You can't shut the man up. Imaging how many albums he will release when he really passes to the other side. Tupac won't have shit on him exclaim
