One of these days I will learn to stop reading Prince interviews. Does the burka comment surprise any of us really? Prince has kinda almways made it clear where he stands on "a woman's place".

But the level of hypocrisy as always. Bitching about covers? Joni Mitchell, Foo Fighters, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Osbourne should all be lining up to slap him for that comment. And I dare him to tell Chaka Khan he hates her cover of I Feel For You. Chaka MAD!!! Chaka REAL MAD!!!!

If he means he prefers the sound quality of CD's to mp3.. I am with him on that. But that isn't what he said.. as usual.

So I wanna see Prince give it all up and go live in a third world country, not just be a tourist. Give up the "Amex", the clothes, all the nice stuff and see how happy he is being "free". That'd be some fuel for songwriting alright.

Why do you make it so damn hard to be a fan! Makes me want to start shouting "Prince Is Dead" all over again.

I guess this means no 20Ten Deluxe Edition either... knew that was a bust from the word go. Why can't he be like my other favorite band Pink Floyd and announce a remaster strategy with material to make my head spin? Oh right.. the past is bad. Whatever. Passing the soapbox to the left hand side...

In the end, I've really never cared about what he had to say in interviews; I only want to hear him sing and play his guitar... wink

Im really disappointed that Prince is pissed off with internet piracy for a number of reasons.one is the fact he has already made it.so making music should be a hobby to him. Also there are quite a few who would pay through the nose for prince to put pen 2 paper on a new record deal.He could have all the Anti-piracy monkeys doing the running for him.I dont think prince should give up that easy.Sign a deal, get promoted by i-tunes,amazon,or def-jam.its all still there and if u need it theres money 2 be made.come on prince-we need an album(even from a Tabloid),a big tour,"the golden apple has'nt fallen from the tree just yet.And after the lotusflow3r debacle i think PRINCE has given up on the internet and the music industry combined."

Hi. I did the Guardian interview and had no sinister agenda at all. In fact I almost left out the line about burqas because I thought it might take too much attention from the rest of the piece (which it did), although this French Q&A also misrepresents that part of the conversation because the “How can you stop people dressing” bit was in response to a follow-up question about the French burqa ban, not about muslim countries.

Inevitably with two people taking longhand notes (one of whom is doing an interview in his second language) there will be differences. Some of the French version is definitely wrong – it was clearly “loving tyrant” not “I love being a tyrant”, for example. Equally, I can’t say for sure that I didn’t mishear or mistranscribe a few words. I wish I could have recorded it and checked every word myself. But nothing was deliberately fabricated. Please don’t assume that there has to be some weird agenda behind everything.

falloff someone put it out of its misery before i do.

If Funkenberry is fair and balanced, he should post this response on his front page the same as he did with Prince's rebuttal. At the end of the day, it's Dorian's word vs. Prince's word. I know who I'd trust.

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian's Film&Music, Prince said: "It's fun being in Islamic countries, to know there's only one religion. There's order. You wear a burqa. There's no choice. People are happy with that." When asked about the fate of those unhappy with having no choice, he replied: "There are people who are unhappy with everything. There's a dark side to everything."

I'm not surprised, but I'm still disappointed, as I would be with anyone that holds these types of views. This statement is ignorant and offensive on multiple levels, from his simplistic and inaccurate generalizations about Islamic countries, to his deplorable idealization of societies that subjugate women. Prince is my favorite artist, but he makes it so difficult to like him sometimes... neutral

If what Dorian said is true (that Prince's comments were not taken out of context), then the correct course of action for Prince to take should be to apologise. He should just come out and say "Yeah, I said it. It was a brain fart. I didn't really think it through. Sorry. This is what I meant to say... blah blah". That's all he has to do. Be a man about it. It's no big deal then. We all have brain farts occasionally. But his complete denial of it just reeks of suspicion IMO.

I hit my personal 1,000th post earlier today.

It occurred to me that kookie might have been asking if Prince ever came onto the org to voice his opinions. I heard that he did come on here and chat with a few orgers once but nobody knew it was him. However, that might have been a long time ago.

In fact I almost left out the line about burqas because I thought it might take too much attention from the rest of the piece (which it did),

Dear no one,

Guess u should've trusted ur intuition on that one huh.

Maybe if you cared more for respecting our somewhat balmy prince and protecting him from the cut of his own naive tongue, I'd have some respect for you.

Instead, you cared more about the 'attention' your piece would receive, regardless of how anyone might be affected by it.

But you're a journalist. You pipe up and make your presence felt. 15 minutes of disrespectful fame for you, without the depth of character it takes to understand him properly.

Do yourself a favor and tap into a man's vibe before you accidently set him up with your stupidity.

Bottom line is, you cared more for your story than you do about people.

What time is it.

Honestly, I say this with all respect toward you, what you propose isn't the job of a journalist. It's the job of Prince's PR guy or gal. It's not a journalist's job to advance Prince's agenda. It's to chronicle and publish Prince's responses to interview questions.

If Prince were committed to that being done accurately, he'd stop balking at people taping interviews with him. Everyone, from movie stars to pro athletes to heads of state, allows it.

He should, too.

I find it neverendingly interesting following Prince's career and seeing his conflicts play out, both externally and internally. But moreso internally. He is definately a man who is not at peace. His current adherence to the JW faith seems to reflect his current battle, with himself. To what I can gather he sees religion as like a safeguard against himself (this would make sense as a basic Christian premise is that humans are born sinners and that the heart is evil and needs to be purified or saved).

I think he perceives himself as someone who pushes the limits of expression and that coupled with a relentless creative drive and mastery of skill gives way to a mentality that questioned, "Why should anyone stop me? I don't need to answer to anyone." His music reflected this kind of attitude, of constantly being able to do whatever he wanted. At the best of times the music was brilliant and ahead of its time, at the worst, self-indulgent and alienating. But one thing was constant, Prince had no master. No one could stop him. The attitude of his music reflected who he was, who he had become. Where do you go when you reach the top but you can't stop climbing?

Bono once said he needed an editor of his music. But who is Prince going to answer to? Perhaps he feels he has found his ultimate editor. Not one man editing his music, but God editing him..

I HATE that he isn't going to record anything soon....I was so looking forward to a new album!! Darnit, his lately albums have been some of my fave of his all time, so I wish he'd change his mind and give us some more of his genius!

The rest of the interview is very interesting...I totally get what he is saying. He likes a society that is peaceful and uniform. A quiety, peaceful Christian society would be ideal to those that are Christian, much like a Islamic society is good for those that are Islamic. Prince says what he feels....I LOVE that about him. He isn't worried about being politically correct. He has interesting ideas, I love when he speaks....always gives me something to think about!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Why is it that orgers can be as demeaning, rude and offensive as they want when posting then hide behind the 5th amendment but Prince has to have all of his comments pre-approved by the 'moral majority'.

You meant the 1st Amendment right? But he is not in America where we can pretty much say whatever we want. But even the 1st Amendment doesn't give you unlimited freedom of speech.

You and Prince clearly missed the little uproar in North Africa and the Arab world against the dictatorships in those countries. Maybe he didn't see that one coming from his Abu Dhabi hotel room.

The last thing I could expect was him defending the islamic religion.

So, the guy loves mental dictatorships...

Thinking about the turds he's released since 2004, I'll be cool with not having new albums from him.

If he has a problem with piracy it's because of the vultures downloading his officially available stuff instead of purchasing it.

But then again, many people could say they hate being scalped with a website that doesn't deliver 5% of what had been promised. T-Shirts included.

Same for those who weren't warned about DRMs expiring.

And what about 'lifetime memberships' on a music club that's suddenly taken down?

What about people paying in advance for an 'internet-only' release and then find Crystal Ball in stores even before the orders were fullfilled?

He doesn't sell his concerts? OK, I'll keep on getting them bootlegged.

Old albums of his are no longer available because of his one-off deals with obscure or semi-dying labels? OK, those who couldn't get them when they were on sale will have to get them illegally.

He decided not to release 20Ten in the USA (or couldn't find a bargain deal for it)? Well, people who didn't have a friend in certain European countries will have to download it or purchase it from bigger vultures than himself.

You did it wrong, Prince. Now just abide the consecuences.

Very good points.

After the catastrophic 20ten, no wonder he doesn't want to issue another record.

No new album, plus a new set of remarks that makes The Rainbow Children sound like a gay communist may parade. Prince is getting too bigotted for his own good, these remarks will isolate even more fans. Starnge how its got him more press. Not to be rude, but this behaviour is symptomatic of people who never went to University. Prince shows his lack of intelligence and education by saying this crap. I think he has lost every gay and Jewish fan in the process here. I am not Jewish but are Zionist and will always favour Israel over the Arabs.

Prince needs to grow up and join the real world

It is the journalist's job to print what he said. It is not the journalist's job to decipher the cluttered ramblings that are Prince's meaning. The journalist is now supposed to read Prince's mind? You have absolutely no clue as to what journalism is. What the journalist wrote was what Prince said. What Prince said is the only truth that can be reported. If what you're looking for is for the journalist to tell you what Prince meant then you aren't looking for the truth at all. You're looking for the interpretation of the "truth" that makes you feel better about your icon.

If Prince wants to come off as some kind of philosopher, he really ought to learn to articulate his thoughts better. If that's not possible, he should either quit spouting off his pseudo-spiritual, quasi-political ideas, or be prepared for the backlash every time someone takes his words at face value when he comes off like a nut. Unfortunately for him, his intellect is a mile wide and an inch deep, so I don't really think there's much chance of him coming off any better if he were to articulate his beliefs better.
