Hmmm.. maybe ~ he sure had crazy/silly YouTube issues then.. lol
but, still.... he covered D Train's song, and TBS posted it on their website in the videos section; god knows how many ppl have viewed, downloaded & shared it across the web.. Is he payin' D Train folks royalties or something? If not....

I know I'm a little late to the comment party, but I don't really watch TV so I had to watch online and omg...he looked pretty good. He was clenching his mouth or pursing his lips a lot during the interview. but other than that, he looked at ease, and we all know how much that man hates interviews...so good job lol
I only saw him do The Beautiful Ones, and I liked it. The falsetto was a little off, but overall, good and I enjoyed it.
The red suit was pimp-tastic! And George's shoes were the business! pimp, pimp, horray!

When Prince was performing Laydown, he did this wrist-flick hand movement during the line, "If your girlfriend didn't have the surgery, maybe she could see what I see." What in the world does that mean? time flies.

one could interpert since his cutting around the heart might mean breast augmentation surgery thus optiong 4 outer beauty instead of inside beauty man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

That was a fantastic interview.
The Sinead and Chaka part was so true.
Wish I was rich. Would be on the plane to LA tomorrow.

Does anyone have any idea how much Prince earned from Sinead O'Connor's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U?" That song must have been one of the biggest hits of 1990/1991 and his revenues from the publishing must have been substantial.
It's a little funny that after she made the song a hit he started playing the song using the same basic arrangement that she used. The song as performed live by Prince bears little similarity to the original version as performed by the Family (Prince).

On The Beautiful Ones is he playing the new Yamaha Motif XF8??

I actually think his version sounds much closer to The Family version - he just doesn't use drum machines like that anymore. Her version is very stark and weird - I am not a fan.
Does hers even have instruments in it? I havent heard it in a long time but I remember it being very sparse and Prince's is much more developed.

It's a coincidence that you should ask that question because the other day I asked the same question about several lines in that song and those lines in particular. Check out the discussion in the thread entitled "How do you interpret these lines?"

This is the 'hidden track' on 20ten y'all. I think it's #72. He needs to stay on this funky track! It's the jam.

No dude you are just wrong. You get on this board going on and on about the same silly crap everytime P performs (too many hits) as if people would pay money to hear a bunch of songs they do not know.
I and many others on this board call you out for you (out in space comments ) all the time. You have right to put them up on this board but your comments are still silly and you really may want to take yourself away from this board this artist and go enjoy all those other wonderful performers who I am sure do not perform their (hits) at their concerts.

Until recently no one who had their stuff played on YOUTUBE received royalties. They do get them now so you do not hear P bitching anymore and D-Train should get some funds.
The whole issue is artist recording covers without even asking permission and usually fucking up P's music. He gets paid when people cover (record his music) he just thinks the covers suck. He wrote it so he has a right to express his opinion about the sorry covers over the years.

Spoke today w/ a family member who is a long time recording artist who stated this prespective on what Prince was referring to about covers. He stated that because the early work was owned by WB and not Prince; they had the right to farm out the music to whomever paid their price w/o credit or mention given to Prince. Once he gains full controlling rights over his music; he will have the say so. Prince was not saying covers should happen. But permission should be sought and granted before its done. He spoke with certainty that Prince has always held this action in high regard and wouldn't act against this. Prince's Sarah

All the CDs I have with covers of Prince songs DO give credit to Prince, Including Sinead & Chaka. I'm also fairly certain he was paid royalties in all cases.
Who covered him without giving him credit? Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

At some point during George Lopez's interview with Prince, Tavis Smiley had to be besides himself, thinking "damn you George Lopez". 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

I think what he was referring to is a lot of people don't know that Prince wrote Nothing Compares 2 U and a lot of people don't know Prince wrote I Feel 4 U, and the ones that do know he wrote it probably don't know that Prince recorded it on his album years before Chaka's version came out.

I would add: U're Still The One (Shania Twain cover that was going to be the b-side for Come On) The First Cut is The Deepest (recorded in August 2008) All Shook Up (recorded in August 2008) When Will We B Paid (internet release) Cookie Jar (Parlet song) River Runs Dry (Bobby Z) Do Yourself A Favor Y Should I Love U (Kate Bush song)- ok, not technically a cover but he did re-record everything for it, even though it wasn't released
I'd add all of those to the list of covers he's actually recorded in the studio.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Amazing
The Beautiful Ones usually does give a heart wrenching feeling. This performance with Misty gives the song gets new life. imo Like watching theater with Prince background music illustrating the plot, the whole drama plays out. It surprised me when towards the end Prince and Misty walked out, leaving in the shawdows when Misty embraces Prince and she falls to his knees. Nice ending

No, Kate Bush wrote it. She then sent it to Prince for his input, Prince then decided to totally destroy it by being the over the top control freak dick he is best at. Prince then sent it limping back to kate, who then spent the next year (on and off) trying to rescue the track from Prince's idiocy. The end result was then released on Kates album "The Red Shoes."
Its "Why Should I Love you?" Not "Y Should I Love U" or any other Prince stupidspeak.
