Prince is as bad as the military with this "hurry up and wait" stuff.
well nbj i live in new york and the only way i would go 2 this disaster show where the music will be centered only around 3 albums from 20 plus years ago, would be if u NBJ, pyscho and rubymoon would be willing 2 get out here ..otherwise i'm passing on this
Then you, my dear O.G., will be missing these lil shindings!!
I'm firmly planted in denial |

Amen!! I am certainly willing to give this some more time to roll and and be clear but wow, who gives a shit about seeing any of these acts when the man has not done a US tour since 2004. You all know what it is like when he is trying to pump up some act while at a concert, he goes way out of his way to give them the stage and acts like we should be privledges to witness the great Q Tip, The Steeles, Mavis Staples and now those chicks from the BET awards. Well again, I hope I can eat my words and this is something more along the lines of a real Prince show with maybe one of them opening each night in a different city but if he is really doing this kind of full showcase then maybe it is something that will just be featured in NYC and if so, please enjoy.
I hope these shows are to showcase his new music and make us remember why he is called a musical god. Not to waste our time showcasing one hit wonders and trying to showcase his new arm candy..the girl in the promo pic..the same one he supposedly was sited having a "romantic" meal with on Martha's Vineyard. I'm so over these non talented protege's!
No no no no!
His new music is HORRIBLE!!!!
That's not fair to paying customers. |

I'm not worried about being Prince's "type." Maybe you shouldn't worry about what his "type" is, b/c you sure aren't! I was referring to the proteges talent..hmm let's see, how far did Carmen Electra get in her recoring career? Nowhere. How far did Tamar get? Hmm, nowhere again. How about Bria, how big has she blown up? Again, nowhere. Do I need to go on? I think not. I don't care who Prince dates, I just don't want to see them singing if they have no talent! It is NOT a good reflection on him...
Then why are you displeased? NONE of these artists are his "proteges" and he isn't dating ANY of these women (at lesat publicly) He just listed a line-up with VERY VERY talented artists. Heck if you don't believe me. Listen to the critics... Janelle Monae new album is the MOST critically acclaimed album of the year! And her tours are the on Spin Magazine MUST SEE list. Trying to say Janelle Monae is the likes of Carmen Electra is just plan ignorant! [Edited 10/15/10 9:28am] |

I sincerely hope Prince DOES NOT read comments on the org. I guess since he declared the internet dead, he probably doesn't. To the people who can only bitch about everything he does: why are you here? No, really. Why? I don't get it. You don't have to like his new music, or anything he has EVER done, but why must you piss all over everybody else's parade? You obviously have not had your plus sign in several days, perhaps years. Your negativity is not witty or cool. You just come off as whiny douchebags with a strong sense of entitlement. You don't like what's happening, then you don't have to go. It's that simple. By the way, where can I hear YOUR music? I'd like to be able to judge how much better of an artist you might be compared to Prince. Myself, I don't really like Mint Condition or Janelle Monae, and have yet to check out Esparanza Spalding or Cassandra Wilson. Did he actually state that Graham Central Station would be involved? I DO like the music of Larry Graham, regardless of his religeous beliefs.
Anyway, the bitchers are pathetic. I, too, would rather just see a Prince show than a revue, but to make all these negative comments about the man you are supposedly a fan of is just ridiculous. Especially when you got your panties so far up in a bunch about it, trying desperately to make other people think the way you do. Fucking live and let live, right?

Indeed, i have been attending live shows for nearly 25 years now, and i have seen a lot of really shit people play really shit gigs, and i am not saying i am an authority or expert on music, but Janelle Monae is one of the best, most exciting live performers i have witnessed, and she has an album of killer songs to back up the hype.
Prince and Janelle Monae on the same bill would/will be one shit hot ticket.
I'm going back to see Monae in the UK a second time in Dec, 1st show was amazing. But to see her with the man? Wow, i'm jealous.

According to my friend Cam(fellow orger purplecam) Prince will be performing some shows in December to benefit the Harlem's Children Empowerment Zone. if that is true, I haven othing but respect for him for doing that. it is an amazing cause.
Well.....I'm not sure the proceeds from the tour will be going to The Harlem Empowerment Zone, but The Gold Plated Fender Strat that he will be playing during these shows will be auctioned off afterwards and those proceeds will go 2 that charity.

Which ones, of the list of artists given, would you classify as "one hit wonders"?
Are you sure the one in the promo pic was the girl he shared a meal with at Martha's Vineyard? What (other than them possibly eating dinner together one night) makes you think she's his new "arm candy"?
On what are you basing your comments about any of these women being either proteges (as opposed to established performers in their own right) or else without talent?
And you, of all people, should know that I'm sure Prince would take issue these days with being referred to as a musical "god".
I didn't say specifically the artists he named were one hit wonders, I'm saying I hope he doesn't bore us with one hit wonders...that's all. Some of the artists are still up and coming..and may become one hit wonders...basically, I just wanna see Prince...not all these other not-popular-artists. Let's face it,no one he named is all that exciting and/or popular. None of the artists are really enough to bring out alot of people that aren't coming to see Prince.
And no, I'm not 100% sure the chick is the same...I wasn't there, that's why I said supposedly since I wasn't there and can't confirm it. But it was said the date sure wasn't Bria ....who hasn't been seen lately, plus Prince has been spending time with alot of other woman.... LOL I'm being totally "pissy" (for lack of a better words) when I'm talking about the arm candy, just a rant really, it seems this chick has been all over his europe shows and now she's on the promo pic..I'm seeing a pattern with Prince and his protege/girlfriend theme. And I've not been impressed by any of his proteges....IMO they had no talent.
And you're right...I shouldn't have used the word god...
once again it amuses me how some just see prince and nothing but prince and won't go out of the purple spectrum 2 experience other sounds. if that is your thing then u keep on walking with yo bad self but however 4 u 2 say that "let's face it, no one he named is all that exciting or popular" goes 2 show how narrow ur focus is. I have been a fan of mint condition since their debut album on Flyte Tyme records ..oh yeah that's Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis's label btw (ever hear of them?), i would have gone 2 see them without prince many a times and they have performed in NYC many a times at BB Kings. Cassandra Wilson is a great performer and has been around for a long time in the Jazz circuits. don't evn get me started on how u sound when u talk about Maceo Parker, Sheila E. and despite what ur personal feelings maybe about Graham Central Station, without Larry, funk would have a different sound so i don't know what ur true beef is with someone paying homage to great artists or trying 2 lend a helping hand. So u must really be the type of person that goes 2 concert and hears about a opening act and come so damn late to the show that u might miss the opening of the headliner and say "excuse me excuse me" trying 2 get to ur seat and stepping on people's feet.
simple soloution 2 it all tho ...don't go 2 the shows so u won't have 2 hear about these "non eciting acts that aren't popular" according 2 ur standards on what's popular
2 quote prince during a concert "miles davis was never popular" ...oh u never heard of miles either right? man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 |

actually carmen grew larger once she left prince, maybe not as a recording star but as something more ...as 4 tamar she was in the play "the marriage counselour" by tyler perry and it can be argued that prince is the prime reason a lot of these acts didn't grow larger under his control. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 |

ooh, sorry about that cerebus, we can't apologize for living in nyc didn't he give 3 shows in minneapolis in one day on 7-7-07? didn't he also do 3 shows in los angeles in march 2009? he has toured countless times. at this point in his career he may or may not want to/doesn't have to tour and it may just be catch as catch can. as far as i know the last thing he did here was in june 2006. we are overdue. |

with the exception of maceo, larry and sheila, i have seen all of these artists, except janelle. for those of you who have no interest in seeing them onstage with prince that's fine. it's your decision, your time, your money. doesn't mean your/our focused is limited. just means that when we spend our time and money we want to see PRINCE and no one else. why insult anyone else's choices? especially with funds being an issue for so many at this time? whatever your reasons, if you think it will be fun, go, but if ALL you want is prince, i wouldn't advise it. i have seen prince live 19 times and am on the fence. i'll decide once i know who is on the bill, what venue he will play and of course how much the tickets cost. |

with the exception of maceo, larry and sheila, i have seen all of these artists, except janelle. for those of you who have no interest in seeing them onstage with prince that's fine. it's your decision, your time, your money. doesn't mean your/our focused is limited. just means that when we spend our time and money we want to see PRINCE and no one else. why insult anyone else's choices? especially with funds being an issue for so many at this time? whatever your reasons, if you think it will be fun, go, but if ALL you want is prince, i wouldn't advise it. i have seen prince live 19 times and am on the fence. i'll decide once i know who is on the bill, what venue he will play and of course how much the tickets cost.
i have the feeling one will never know who will show up until the lights go down man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 |

Did he actually state that Graham Central Station would be involved? I DO like the music of Larry Graham, regardless of his religeous beliefs.
Yes, he specifically mentioend Graham Central Station along with the other names mentioned: Lalah Hathaway, Janell MoNae, Sheila E., Mint Condition, Sinbad, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Maceo Parker. Whether that means CONFIRMED, I don't know.
. [Edited 10/15/10 13:14pm] The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp. |

I do love how this thread has brought almost every negativity spewing orger who swore off Prince about 6 months ago. Get a life already stalkers! Keep it real all of y'all still gonna buy tickets and then say you didn't go.
Here's hoping there are at least 3 shows in NYC or the immediate area so I can go on multiple nights and hang with my friends and the true fans of Prince. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! |

once again it amuses me how some just see prince and nothing but prince and won't go out of the purple spectrum 2 experience other sounds. if that is your thing then u keep on walking with yo bad self but however 4 u 2 say that "let's face it, no one he named is all that exciting or popular" goes 2 show how narrow ur focus is.
DaphneLovesPR1NCE is an A+ Prince (god) fanatic. I guess everyone, performer (one hit wonder) and girlfriend (arm candy) alike, are just inferior. |
