I am more excited about this than the tour !!! 2elijah did u see the videos shown ? Anymore info ? Cheers !! biggrin

It was a dvd from 21 Night in London -- I think the one that was included on the Opus ipod or whatever that thing was. The first clip was Guitar, then the second one was the Controversy/Housequake medley and snippets from famous people (Naomi Campbell, P Diddy, Elton John) talking about how great Prince is. There was no mention of a 20ten dvd.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Wow, this tour's gonna suck the fat one. I couldn't care less about any of those unknown acts.

How bout some fuckin rock artists for a change?

Amen!! I am certainly willing to give this some more time to roll and and be clear but wow, who gives a shit about seeing any of these acts when the man has not done a US tour since 2004. You all know what it is like when he is trying to pump up some act while at a concert, he goes way out of his way to give them the stage and acts like we should be privledges to witness the great Q Tip, The Steeles, Mavis Staples and now those chicks from the BET awards. Well again, I hope I can eat my words and this is something more along the lines of a real Prince show with maybe one of them opening each night in a different city but if he is really doing this kind of full showcase then maybe it is something that will just be featured in NYC and if so, please enjoy.

I've been suckered before. I hope I'm wrong, but I really haven't seen a good show of his in ages. This sounds really hokey so far. I predict a lot of medleys too.

Excellent news indeed!!! Definitely looking forward to these shows and plan on attending more than one. I hope the dates work for me on that note.

- Me too, specially because I live in Brasil and it´s my only chance to see him live outside YouTube smile (and I love to buy DVD concerts)

It was snippets from the "21 nights in London" DVD.

It makes me a little sad to see this stuff.

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, etc... etc... It's just that... sigh

Esperanza and Janelle are two of my favourite new (to me) artists, Maceo and Sheila E are brilliant and just doing a quick search on Cassandra Wilson has meant another trip down to the music store this afternoon - but not before checking out the rest.

Ergo, that line-up looks awesome imo. Unfortunately, the US is way too far for me to travel at the moment neutral

So it makes no difference to anything of course. If it's not your style of music, it's not your style.

But I hope those who do share my tastes get to go and enjoy it doubly for all those who can't and, if anyone reading this can get word to Prince, please consider a live DVD that actually goes on sale beg biggrin

sorry but maceo, sheila, mint condition and casandra wilson are not garbage ...but u sound like one of those that sees a guitar and immediatley thinks prince should do nothing but rock ..2 each their own but when u realize that prince is emmerced in soul music and funk b4 rock will be the day u finally letitgo

even if u listen 2 who prince credits as those that influenced him growing up ..they were NOT rock acts

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

The comparison is they were both holding press conferences to announce multiple shows. We all know now Michael Jackson was a drug addict and was truly a mess. Multiple plastic surgeries, wigs, tattoed eyebrows, ...you get the point.

Welp, now I see what the person who said this conference "rivals" Michael's was talking about.....It's the visual he was referring to apparently. Prince might as well should have worn a sequined MJ arm band and long hair extensions and called it a copy, I mean evening.

Exactly. Here you have a musician who has never allowed anyone to typecast him with his music. He is a musician who has the ability and the gift to play rock, r&b, jazz, blues, gospel, and more, and has succeeded in attracting fans from various race groups all over the world, because of his ability to play various types of music. I think Prince recognizing other artists' music skills, is admirable of him. Secondly, I think some folks forget where the birth of "rock" came from, and need to do some research. It was born out of blues and gospel, and many black musicians from the 1920s, had been playing rock music for years.

It was around the 50s/60s/70s, that more white musicians started gravitating to rock, while many black artists and the industry gravitated towards acapella/r&b/funk in 50s/60s/70s era. Prince is a musician who has the gift of playing rock, r&b, jazz, funk, gospel, latin/reggae, which is just some of the reasons he is a well-respected musician around the world. Seems when Prince brings out his r&b/funk/ side, some fans diminish that type of music as "not worthy'. Wellsome folks need to remember that if it wasn't for blues/gospel/funk/r&b, there would be no "rock".

Anyway, thanks to Prince for gracing New York fans with his presence, allowing fans to attend the press conference and sharing the "Welcome2America' tour series' information. It was certainly appreciated. biggrin

Oh, most humble apologies, I would never question or insult another's musical taste. Mine have been ridiculed for far too long just for being a fan of the guy on this website. But, I would think for most of the Prince fans, we would want to see a Prince concert. Not some festival showcase with folks that he wants to promote for the next 2 weeks and then drop like they never exisited. If these are 2 of your favorite new artists, then I hope you get to see them in concet very soon and they rock the house for you. But for me, I was just excited about the potential for a Prince tour not a set up like this press conference has suggested. Lets face it, most of us tolerated these folk's performances at the BET awards to get to his acceptance speech, but really it was viewed as mediocore at best by many who come here so the idea of a concert promoting these folks does not exactly stimulate much excitement but please enjoy them as much as you would like!!

This press conference makes me feel that, Prince realizes he is the last gr8 artist left & he is letting the world know & not to mourn over the lost of other gr8 artist like himself. That he is still here & looks ageless and not going anywhere...

I guess you didn't get the joke.

But regardless, here's why your attempted insult carries no weight: you have an account registered on a Prince fan site, and are using it to angrily and bitterly argue about what you want to see at a Prince concert, that was just announced hours ago. So for you to deride anyone else here as being "obsessed with Prince" is inherently absurd.

Anyway, peace to all the orgers I saw at the event.. you didn't miss much after they kicked the people with no wristbands out, just wine and finger foods. smile
