Exactly. Here you have a musician who has never allowed anyone to typecast him with his music. He is a musician who has the ability and the gift to play rock, r&b, jazz, blues, gospel, and more, and has succeeded in attracting fans from various race groups all over the world, because of his ability to play various types of music. I think Prince recognizing other artists' music skills, is admirable of him. Secondly, I think some folks forget where the birth of "rock" came from, and need to do some research. It was born out of blues and gospel, and many black musicians from the 1920s, had been playing rock music for years.

It was around the 50s/60s/70s, that more white musicians started gravitating to rock, while many black artists and the industry gravitated towards acapella/r&b/funk in 50s/60s/70s era. Prince is a musician who has the gift of playing rock, r&b, jazz, funk, gospel, latin/reggae, which is just some of the reasons he is a well-respected musician around the world. Seems when Prince brings out his r&b/funk/ side, some fans diminish that type of music as "not worthy'. Wellsome folks need to remember that if it wasn't for blues/gospel/funk/r&b, there would be no "rock".

Anyway, thanks to Prince for gracing New York fans with his presence, allowing fans to attend the press conference and sharing the "Welcome2America' tour series' information. It was certainly appreciated. biggrin

[Edited 10/14/10 18:48pm]

Very well written, as usual, and right on point. Plus, I have a distinct feeling that we'll all get plenty of Prince's playing in more than one way with these shows. Folks may be a bit scared that they won't get enough of P, but I'm quite sure he'll play his heart out... his energy level has been on a real high lately. The European concert clips R evidence of this, but there's more. What an anomaly Prince is now... as he always was... just in different, evolving ways. It's true.

I guess you didn't get the joke.

But regardless, here's why your attempted insult carries no weight: you have an account registered on a Prince fan site, and are using it to angrily and bitterly argue about what you want to see at a Prince concert, that was just announced hours ago. So for you to deride anyone else here as being "obsessed with Prince" is inherently absurd.

Anyway, peace to all the orgers I saw at the event.. you didn't miss much after they kicked the people with no wristbands out, just wine and finger foods. smile

I can criticize anyone I want, including Prince. I've put a lot of money into his pocket, so I've more than earned that right.

K.

I've been to shows that started with Prince and then handed off to A-holes like Larry Graham. Many of us have been burned that way before.

Meanwhile, his music sucks.

You're entitled to your opinion on that, but just remember that no one is holding a shotgun to your head and forcing you to listen to his music. He'll still be a well-respected artist, with a music history to back that up. You have a good evening. biggrin

Well, here is one person who looks forward to Prince adding his R&B roots into his concert! Although, I love the rock, in order for the roll--you have to have some funk'n'R&B! I am looking forward to going to whatever venue I can in the U.S. to see Prince...and if that includes Janelle Monae, that would be a plus! Thanks for your posts on this thread! If you have any more--let those of us excited about this tour/residency in the U.S. know about it! biggrin

Actually, the real frustrating thing tonight is that we are all excited about a concert announcement but he did not really annouce anything. The days of the average person being intrigued with the mystery of Prince are gone so to call a press conference and then not say anything of any real specifics is really silly. But that is our boy. Love him or leave him I guess. cool

Come on man step your trolling game up, this reply didn't even relate to what I said. smile

Anyway, ignoring the troll until he at least puts in more effort.. I'd rather just see Prince than the variety show format (much as I do like these artists), but as long as it's not some $312.10 ticket scam I'll be there.

The local FOX news station (not the cable FOX news), is about to report on Prince and the press conference. (Channel 5 in NYC).

Okay, I can't believe that news woman called "Janelle Monae's" name wrong. She called her"Janelle Monroe". Also, she said Prince did not say exactly say where the "Welcome2America" concerts will be..the "Apollo? Madison Square Gardens? Throughout different states in America? Will it start in NYC or just be in NYC" None of the Press or fans can really say, because Prince did not say where those shows would begin or exactly where in the U.S. during his speech. Once again, Prince keeps us in mystery.

Now we have to worry about getting tickets. It was so nice during the Musicology tour not to have to worry about good seats. I hope they set up something for all of us like that, although I don't know how since there is no website.

i will the day u stop thinking prince is nothing but rock music. sound good 2 u? naw u will still still be in diapers whinning and stomping ur foot cause prince WON'T bring rock artists to a show u may or may not being going 2.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Kudos for your efforts at getting more specific information for us. But Prince's vague comments do not dampen my enthusiasm that he will be somewhere in the U.S.! If Janelle Monae is included, it will be a perfect concert! I saw her live and she is the bomb--ignore her nerves performing on BET! Clearing my schedule for December...how about you?! lol
