Though Princey was looking good, he still needs to eat more. I remember when he used to be muscular back in the day...I understand being a vegetarian and all but damn. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

True he didn't do the song any justice, but I can't hate on anyone especially a young artist showing my Princey some love.

BET Bestows Lifetime Achievement Award On Prince Last Updated: June 28, 2010 at 11:22 am
By Verily Prime
I watched the BET tribute to Prince and realized that, not only are this man musical abilities are still intact, but that he hasn’t aged.
At 52, the Purple One is more serene than the controversial star we knew early in his career. This is the same Prince who once inserted the Our Father Prayer in his song ‘Controversy’, and last night was admonishing the younger stars not to emulate and made he same mistakes he did when he was young.
The BET awards went through all of Prince’s highlights: from his first hit ‘Soft and Wet’, to his introduction to a mass audience via the movie and soundtrack ‘Purple Rain’. Alicia keys, Patti Labelle, and Chaka Khan ? all serenaded him with lovely performances.
In hearing Prince accept the BET award, one comes away with the fact on how soft spoken and articulate he is, especially for someone who has had no formal education…we are left to surmise that Prince is self taught man.
I, personally, have always been fascinated with this man’s genius; it is reported that Prince has a vault with literally hundred of unreleased songs. He has written songs for the Bangles, such as ‘Manic Monday’; Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares To You’; Sheena Easton’s ‘Sugar Walls’, and countless others. Many of these songs were written under such names as Jamie Starr, Alexander Never Mind, Camille, and Joey Coco.
I wish that Prince Rogers Nelson and the late Michael Jackson had found the time to hook up and produce an album between them. Even his paramours went on to change their names to those of his liking: Denise Mathews became Vanity, Patricia Kotero became Apollonia, Sheila Escovedo became Sheila E, and Tara Leigh Patrick became Carmen Electra.
At 52, the Purple One has had quite an interesting life, and he looks physically better than he did some 25 years ago. His trade mark boots, doesn’t seem so weird doing so now because, perhaps, we have become accustomed to his wearing them.
Prince has booked many concerts for Europe this Summer. I hope he graces us with his renowned live performances here in the United States.

I wonder why SOME people are getting their "back up" because Prince admitted to making mistakes. Regardless of what he EXACTLY meant by his comments, a lot can be inferred and one is bound to likely nail a few of the areas that he was referring to . He is obviously of a changed mindset now so he's looking back on things that only he knows that he could or should have done differently. And if that means some of the music that he created...then so be it.
Some of you are saying "Oh he should have no regrets, because his past (mistakes and all) made him the big star that he is now". Well you know what? Life is about more than being a "big star", and I'm sure that there are some desired "non- material" things in Prince's life where he would in fact wager his "stardom" for.
Heck, I know we are the sum total of our experiences, but most of us....if we are honest can take a look back and say...wow "Why did I have to do it exactly 'that way?'". God only knows what Prince has done, on and off the scenes. He admitted that he was "wild" and he damned sure was; a lot of consequences come with that "wildness". Everything is not always about fame, money, the amount of records you sell, and the amount of fans that you have. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I remember when I first saw him on that Tavis Smiley interview in 2009; I thought that he was sick or something. I became really worried about his thin-ness, he did not look good. Also, he's been wearing loose fitting clothes lately....so who really knows how slim he really is now.
Vegetarians usually do not have to lose a whole lot of weight unless they were eatting very poorly to begin with. However, with Prince's money, he should be able to hire a good nutritionist and chefs that would help stablize his weight.
Somebody posted a thread under the "Associated Artist" section where some ex-employees of Prince alleged / reported that he would like eat only a cup of rice a day (on some days)...if that much. He was vegetarian back then also. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I wish Trey Songz was younger than what he really is, because I would have felt alot better about his performance. According to Wikipedia the dude is 25 years old. He's a grown man. At that age you know when you are giving a jacked up peformance. He should have practiced.
If he was like 16, I would have just said "awwh Prince has got to lub the kids". But it's not cute at 25 especially if he just up and took it upon himself to sing a rendition of Purple Rain knowing that Patty would cover it later in the evening. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Did this columnist even watch the show? Not only did she get the Chaka Khan thing wrong, but how could she tell that Prince's "musical abilities are still intact" from watching the show? He didn't freggin perform. Oh damn. Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

A cup of rice a day? That's crazy But I wouldn't it put it past him though, the man probably hardly ever sleeps. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

People are making assumptions about what mistakes he was referring to, when he never revealed exactly what those mistakes were. It's his life and apparently only he knows what those mistakes were/are. I think the problem is that too many of his fans work overtime analyzing everything about him to their satisfaction, and they don't know even know him on a personal level, to draw their own conclusions from that statement. I think until he actually reveals what those mistakes were, then people will be able to discuss/give their opinions/thoughts on them.

I tried to post the other night after the awards but the site was down, apparently. I have a longer post about the show, but I'll have to post it later when I have time.
Just wanted to mention, is it me, or does it look like Chaka & 'em teared up listening to his speech? Doesn't it look like everyone is wiping away tears or something?

THANK YOU! These oddball conspiracy theories as to what Prince meant by what his "mistakes" were is pure foolishness. Like I said pages ago, we don't know what the mistakes were even though I think he's made some, even in the so-called "good old days" of the 80's. Only Prince knows what those mistakes are and it's his business, not ours. I knew when he said that, people were going to buckwild with that and sure enough, you guys did not disappoint me. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

He didn't directly reference any particular incident or occurance or circumstance. Everyone is choosing to hear what they want. He could have been referring to any multitude of instances in his career.
Maybe hearing all of that profanity that BET itself had to bleep out made him cringe and recollect when he did the same. Maybe he was talking about his past relationships with the artists and musicians in his camp. It could have been a refernce to many things in his 30 plus year career. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

It ain't about perfection. Did you WATCH her performance? It was HORRIBLE. Plenty other people here noticed it too, and judging form some posts even Janelle herself knew it stunk.
You lot are all pretending she's the shiznit, but she's just shit. She's just a different flavor of shit, but still shit. Hugely overated. Her album is unlistenable, pretentious pap. © Bart Van Hemelen

Yeah, I love how people are 'interpreting' what he supposedly meant by this simple statement. Isn't it pretty much the same thing that most grown-ups say to youngsters at some point?

i said this in the other post but doesnt the ten look like a yin yang symbol and i looked up yin yang and i found this
The phrase “the ten-thousand things” is Taoism’s way of saying “everything that exists.” The ten thousand things are expressions of the various ways that the five elements can combine to produce humans and beetles and mountains and super-novas and dolphins and orchids and oak trees and hummingbirds and lichen and hot-springs and crystals
kinda explains the art work alittle
is this his theme of the album the ten-thousand things??
im probably just reaching (which i do alot sorry i cant help it )

You have a point. Commercial music itself is at an all-time low. The difference between the Rock and R&B sides is that at least there are PLENTY of underground and smaller label Rock and White acts that are amazing, artists that don't mind pushing the envelope musically and image wise, artists that don't let cultural stereotypes and fears keep them in a safe, little, limiting box. I have tried and tried to find good R&B and "Black" music but I can't! The Afro-Punk movement tried but failed. D'angelo is cracked out. Van Hunt got dropped from his label. Janelle Monae has style, but her freakout nature only gets her so far, because musically she's the same as the rest of those "artists" who could easily be on the same album and no one would be able to tell the difference. (Which is totally unexpected since she is affiliated with of Montreal, the one band around today that takes elements of Prince's style and makes them all their own.) It's sad when the best soul album of the year is from a White guy (Mayor Hawthorne's album is the SHIT!) [Edited 6/29/10 8:48am]

Thanks for the suggestions. HOWEVER....I never really dug Mint Condition back in the day and I don't think they've changed much, Ndegeocello was always overrated to me and I think people mostly dug her because she is a female bass player, Anthony Hamilton seems contrived to me (not natural at all and his lyrics aren't "timeless" to me).
Ill check out the rest, but if they fit into that whole "neo-soul" sound I probably wont like them. There are only 3 "neo-soul" greats-D'angleo, Badu, and Maxwell. The rest.....BLAH! If the fit into some nice little "black" hole I probably won't like them (unless they explode that hole to the point that they are considered too big for it! Feel me?)
(UPDATE) WELL, after looking up the artists I wasn't familiar with, it seems most of the artists on your list are Prince affiliated in some way (or have been compared to Prince......at least his watered down, current "R&B" side.) That figures.........
