Oh, I don't know...but if I were a betting woman. I'd say...probably because Prince received a LIFETIME Achievement Award and yet...he could not be bothered to thank ANYBODY...at all...that had ANYTHING to do with his LIFETIME of Achievement. shrug

If you were a betting woman, and you decided to bet on that. You'd be a broke-ass woman!

Now all of a sudden Ex-Wives and Ex-Girlfriends are supposed to be thanked during Award Speeches???

I'm guessing you probably think Prince should have thanked Bartolomeo Cristofali for inventing the piano, because if it wasn't for him, Prince definitely wouldn't be where he is!!!

rolleyes

No dear...the question was:

Why are so many of Prince's ex-wives/girlfriends talking shit about the BET tribute?

My response was to that question and that question alone and I'd win. Why? Because I wouldn't bet on MY emotions...I'd bet on the player's emotions! wink

.

Here's her Cindy Mayweather character in the "Many Moons" video in 2008

[Edited 6/28/10 18:24pm]

Thanks for posting but I STILL don't get a sense of just WHO Janelle Monae IS from watching that video.

Yes, I watched her amped up impersonations of Prince, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, Andre Benjamin, Erykah Badu and Rapheal Saadiq, which was cool and all but no where near as mind blowing nor memorable...as any one of them...individually! So I'm still just not seeing the attraction, I'm really not. shrug

[Edited 6/28/10 19:02pm]

Not quite sure of exactly what you are looking to see. After seeing all that you said that you saw....and if you still don't like her....then perhaps she's just not the artist for you. That doesn't diminish her abilities, nor your tastes. Everybody is not for everybody. But it's pretty clear who she is and what she has to bring to the table, in my opinion.

The Hater in me was a little taken aback too because even as egomonical as Prince is...surely HE has to know that he would not have been on that stage receiving that award, had it not been for what he's done in his "wild days"!

The optomist in me is going to go with...he was talking to Alisha Keyes because she jumped her happy ass on top of that piano...ignoring the fact that she's pregnant...trying desperately to impress him...since her vocals damn sure weren't doing the job. giggle

You know, a part of me also felt that he initiated the discussion because of Alicia Keys wildness on that particular night with the piano thing. But I also felt that he was speaking "generally" and being sincere. Prince knows and admires Alica Keys, he has said it in an interview years ago that he thought she was talented.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Geee, I wish Prince would create some type of comic book, or animated series with that cartoon version of himself. That drawing is just too accurate, and honestly very captivating, lol. The more I look at it, the more I'd like to see it moving around and talking, involved in cool musical adventures or something. lol

What I was looking for is something that identifies HER uniqueness and individuality. So far, all I've seen her do is marginal...hyper...hmm...interpretations of unique individuals. I've yet to see any WOW of her own, eminating from her. That doesn't diminish her abilities, nor my tastes, either. As I think you were saying...everything is not for everybody...and I absolutely agree! shrug

Esperanza and Alicia were decent. Stevie's segment was the best part of the tribute. The rest of the tribute sucked the sweat off a dead man's balls. Extremely disappointing.

Patti was just having fun, like old friends would, like Stevie did, they are not gonna try and sing a Prince song ....they know that's just folie.... biggrin

Janelle looked really, really, nervous ..... as i or any normal person would be when you have to sing to PRINCE a PRINCE song .....

Credit to her she tried to fight it and PRINCE could tell this , he's been around ya know!

Great Night, and Good to see our man getting the props! biggrin

You need to just get rid of him! lol

That was his music in youth..

[Edited 6/28/10 21:22pm]

No, he didn't.

He said - and this is an exact quote:

I was pretty wild in my younger days. And uh...you don't have to do what I did. You don't have to make any of the mistakes I made. The future's in your hands now - and the world is really yours.

Please note - he said nothing about Warner Brothers. He gave absolutely no clue as to the nature of what he considers to be his "mistakes."

Attempts by anyone here to define them is a matter of conjecture - nothing more.

You know, I wasn't even upset that Prince didn't perform. HOWEVER, everyone could see the difference between the real talented musicians like El Debarge and the up and coming singers/musicians like Esperanza Spaulding. Hopefully, everyone saw that the rappers are the frauds in this music game without Prince mentioning how real music needed to be played.

Hell the rappers do not deserve the title anymore at least back in the day we had people who brought something to the table. LL Cool J did not sound like Kurtis Blow and Whodini did not sound like Run DMC. Now any summabitch that gets on stage sounds the same.

It's like talent does not exist anymore . Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj?

Give me a fucking break.
