Even Manuela Testolini is complaining about the tributes lol

lol

In BET's timeline thing, they have a pic of her & Prince that is really a nice shot, great smiles. (and I love the sweater she was wearing!) wink

When they were at the basketball game? I still think that's the happiest they ever looked.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, I agree with you and it's where she's touching his face, it's really a sweet picture!

More priceless than Prince's reaction is the guy behind him.

The expression on that guy's face is hilarious!

That is really funny. Wonder what his expression was during Trey's PR attempt? (which I could only take about 3.2 seconds of.)

I would have posted my opinions last night but the org was down for hours! lol I think that the tribute was alright but it should have been better. The energy wasn't as high as I thought it would be. Janelle Monae wasn't bad with Lets Go Crazy but damn her voice was shaking like a leaf on a tree on a windy day. I like when she imitated Prince's dance moves from PR, I was laughing at that. lol Espauralda (i know I spelt that wrong) Spaulding's performance of IIWYG sounded good but I was bored watching her. It was like watching paint dry. Alicia doing Adore was cool. I got nervous watching her climb on that piano with her being pregnant and all. I was like, she better not fall on live TV! lol I was feeling her performance. Patti's rendention of Purple Rain was good, not as great vocally but she had energy. I loved it when she kicked her shoes off, I was hollerin, especially when Prince caught one of them and held it in the air. Classic! falloff And Trey Songz, well, he tried. It was messy but I would like to believe that he was being genuine with his tribute to Prince. Yeah it was messy, but I give him props for acknowleging the man.

Prince's speech was great. I thought it was classy and heartfelt, like he thought about what he was going to say without trying to look for words and looking like a dear in the headlight. As for the "mistake" part, a lot of you here are going wild over this but I would not be surprised if in him saying that, it doesn't necessarily mean that he regrets the music he made like many in here think he means. Truth is, he's made some mistakes in the last 31 years. You guys talk about some of those mistakes on a daily basis. It doesn't have to be music, but just choices in his career and what he's done in certain situations. Whatever the case, we really don't know what he means by it so I take it for what it is and it doesn't bother me. He has a right to feel the way that he does. I don't know if I agree with him when he says that he has hope for the future of music cause it's looking pretty bleak right now, but I know that with Prince and El DeBarge on last night, I'm glad that these guys were around when I was a kid because they reminded me of why I love music in the first place. Maybe there will be someone who comes along in the future to show me how far music can still go but who knows? I hope that that next legend is out there. I do know that I'm happy for the legend that is living today, Prince for receiving the Lifetime Acheivement Award because he most definately deserves it. biggrin

I agree about the mistakes part. No one in particular knows what mistakes he was referencing in his life, so it was easy for some to assume he was referring to some of the lyrics in his earlier music/or how he portrayed himself in the past on stage or to fans. Who knows, shrug I get the feelilng hs is a lot more content with the person he is today, moreso than in the past though.

[Edited 6/28/10 8:16am]

Exactly! I agree with both of U. Except the Trey Songz part. He had no right singing Purple Rain knowing Patti was doing it. That was disrespectful. It took away from the actual tribute which Prince personally had hand picked. I know he may have meant well. But it was horrid to watch..

I really felt Prince speech it was short and to the point. I like the new self improved Prince. He is a much better person now . I know because I been there from almost the beginning. He looked healthy. Loved his shirt in its self promotion way. I remember he did that similarly with Lotusflow3r & 3121.... Imagery is better than just shouting out when ur next cd is coming out.. I Like watching his facial expressions to the Tribute to. He looked completely happy & content with it.. Only thing missing I wish Chaka performed......Oh yeah! & Stevie Wonder gave a heart felt little tribute to

No, he looked concerned because Alicia is pregnant, and climbed on top of the piano.

Wow... I kept thinking I was watching The Gong Show or something.

The gluttony of rap performances: What's the point of performing songs that most of the words are censored. It's annoying, if you're gonna get beeped more than a couple times, change the words or do a different song. Or better just skip it. Most of the rap performances were just a whole lotta Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothin'.

The little 13 year old girl that sang a cappela before Alicia's first performance sounded better than anybody else in the whole show! Also, the Music Matters artists they let play us out to commercials showed more talent than most of the big names on the stage tonight.

Chris Brown was hilarious! That was supposed to be funny, right?

No mention of Garry Shider or GURU passing away?!? Shame on BET.

That Trey Songz dude was too awful to be funny... Don't EVER do that again!

Stevie was wonderful!

Janelle Monae's dancing looked like a cross between 80's Prince & Pee Wee Herman.

Esperanza Spaulding sounded alright, liked the bass, voice sounded a little too much like Minnie Ripperton.

Alicia was alright but not great and what the hell with the sexy piano crawl? Some have said she was trying to look like Vanity or Appolonia, NO, she was doing Prince, he USED to do that shit all the time.

Patti... ouch! I know Prince loves her, but, wow! I was laughing, laughing, laughing.

No performance by Prince?!?

His speech managed to praise the new generation for talent they don't have and chastise them for being rebellious and wild which they are not. Huh...

I'm gonna have to go back in time 4 years and rewatch the Chaka tribute. THAT was how you do a tribute!!

I know. I saw the docmentary about the Debarges and how abusive their father was. Sad, but true and I was shocked to hear that. The mother is very religious and I believe she is a preacher. She has her own myspace page and is often sending out inspirational messages. I also liked when Chico became a solo artist and remembering buy his music, when he put out some music some years ago. That family went through some changes. Was so good to see El come out and sing some classics.

I had to stay up til a little past 5am, hoping our boy would perform. Still quite upset that I had to sit through all the utter nonsense and he still didn't take the stage with his band. What I will say, though, is that the highlight of the night (well, morning) for me was ESPERANZA SPALDING. Goodness gracious.

So what you're saying is that she can't sing? Because I don't know what she was doing during LGC, but it wasn't singing.

So let's see: crap album, plus can't sing live. And this is the next big thing?

No, im not a big fan of that shirt, but its ok. It works

I am always glad to see men not wear suits. They are not comfortable, it's become the west's version of the white robes worn in the Muslim world. Its another century already let forget about the suit already. especially the tuxedo. such corniness that thing.

The white robes do do pretty comfy tho' but not very practical.

Pur-lease. It ain't about him wearing a shirt. It's about him wearing a FUGLY shirt that displays the FUGLY art for his upcoming album. That's CHEAP and RIDICOLOUS and you'd think people know better after this: http://www.ew.com/ew/gall..._8,00.html

No, it isn't. When a person says he has regrets, it is about him. An apology is about someone else - someone a person feels s/he has wronged.

That was no apology. Not even close.
