Lool sorry I thought this was prince.org but EVIDENTLY ive entered the hood ?::snaps fingers:: but now you stop ::coughs:: "GIRLFRIEND"

Millions of people on youtube seem to be replying back to his videos viewing them and saying he can sing, his songs are quite successful for a new r&b artist yet Im the one thats tone deaf. I respect your opinion nonetheless and hope you didnt break your teeth and split your skull open with blood gushing out as you feel of that chair biggrin.

You think he can't sing, I think your tone deaf and being silly.

He sings with a very complex vibrato which can sound hideous live over an electric sound system.

If you have the heart to call any tribute to Prince on that stage shitty your already lacking morally and I am not going to waste time debating why but what I will say is the whole moment of him on that stage felt pretty intense and overwhelming besides they where two different set of performances in which Prince might have been backstage (he did say hes been keeping up with the show from his hotel etc) when Trey mixed Purple Rain in to his song. Princes heart seems very loving towards those who respect his work (and you can be smart and say "even rapists"). He might feel a little bad for not mentioning Trey, but I highly doubt it was on purpose why he didnt mention him or that any of them will lose any sleep or didnt meet backstage afterwords.

[Edited 6/28/10 16:27pm]

Yes, I have the heart to say that his tribute was shitty and Prince obviously agrees. Lacking morally? falloff

Anyway, he wasn't even a part of the tribute. Prince hand-picked Janelle, Patti, Alicia and Esperanza to perform that's all. Trey chose to put 'Purple Rain' in his performance for some odd reason.

LOOOL (IF you laugh more it makes it seem like its the truth)

Its odd for Trey to sing a bit of purple rain ON A NIGHT THAT TRIBUTES prince? Im not dealing with you your actually an idiot and Im not even saying it to be rude.

Here's the thing. Trey wasn't even a part of the Prince Tribute. He decided to sing Purple Rain on his own.

Now, why BET agreed to let him sing the song knowing full well that just 10 minutes later Patti Labelle would be singing it is beyond me.

It's one of the reasons why BET gets made fun of on a Daily Basis because crappy organization like that.

They should have denied him from signing the song. Not because he wouldn't have sung it well, but because someone else was already going to sing it.

Now see...I fault BET for a whole lot of things but I can't fault BET for that one.

Trey thought that one up all on his own. He felt since he's that new hotness and all ...rolleyes...and it was ok for him to sample "Purple Rain"...it should have been just fine and dandy for him to perform "Purple Rain"...in front of Prince, himself!

And HE WAS RIGHT! eek

When you put it like that it did seem odd both Trey and Patti singing Purple Rain, he could have picked any other Prince song or let BET know before hand, but probably he though Purple Rain blended the best.

It was obvious his voice is the real deal, not studio created. That's why I was impressed with it. But at the same time his tenor vibrato is not for me. Less is more when it comes to that particular vocal trick. I actually thought he sounded the best when he transitioned into Purple Rain, and I thought the tribute was spot on with the theme of his song.

It was definitely BET's fault for letting him do it.

I could see if he spontaneously decided to do an accepella version of it.

But, if you saw the performance. It was definitely BET approved.

From the Band playing the song to the Purple lighting and raindrops on the screen behind him.

I didn't really mind him doing the song in the 1st place. It was bad timing because it was right before the actual Prince tribute just 10 minutes later. Where Patti LaBelle would be performing the song.

They should have NEVER allowed the same song to be performed twice on the same show.

To me, that's just unprofessional.

JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

After hearing Trey Songz version of Purple Rain, I'm kinda wishing that Prince would charge 10x the going rate for his songs to be used ( re the Questlove thread that happened a week or 2 ago) in order to prevent travesties like that.

IMHO, it was out of line. At the least it was an affront to Patti since it was known from rehersal that she was singing Purple Rain. A tribute was already planned to be women singing Prince's songs (notice the intro was the beginning of "Girl" before Janelle started screaming Let's Go Crazy). When I heard him singing...my first thought was "WTF, if this is the beginning of the tribute, this is gonna suck"

Anyway, I can only hope that someone, be it the BET producers or Trey's manager, smacked him upside his head when he got off stage.

Random note, the best part of the REAL tribute was a toss up between Prince holding up Patti's shoe after she kicked them off or the fact that Prince, in essence, got a pregnant woman to jump onto a piano and gyrate to one of his songs. Talk about the power of his music. Either one, PRICELESS!

...Girl, U excite me so......ooh wee baby, I bet ur quite a lover.....

What the hell is "complex" about his vibrato? He sounded nervous and tired to me. His performance was really terrible. I mean no disrespect to him or his talent, I'm not that familiar with him. But his performance of "Purple Rain" was embarrassing.

I thought the tribute to Prince was great.

I loved Janelle's energy.

I thought Esperanza was really good.

I thought Alicia was sexy as hell.

And Patti was Patti. Fabulous as always.

I also had NO problem with Prince not performing.

I don't think it was disrespectful at all.

I thought his speech was really gracious.

You can nitpick certain things about it like him saying younger artists don't have to do what he did in the past. Or him saying that music is in good hands.

If he had come out there and talked about how great he was for 5 minutes. People hear would never stop giving him shit for it.

But once again, you have people here on the org who in their delusion think they're Prince's lawyer, doctor, accountant, manager, parent, pastor, and lover. They think they know what's best for him and what he would prefer when they really don't.

Exactly. If everyone here holds the secret to Prince's success then find an artist to promote and prove your point. Prince has been managing to eke out a career from this music thing for over 30 years. I think he might have a handle on it by now!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
