Yeah, I love how people are 'interpreting' what he supposedly meant by this simple statement.

Isn't it pretty much the same thing that most grown-ups say to youngsters at some point?

I'm sorry, but I just don't like whores and prostitutes that tell kids to remain abstinent ONLY after they've fucked everybody in the town.

lol Well, sorry, that's the way the world rolls. Ya learn things the hard way from fucking everyone in town and doing stupid shit...if you haven't been smart enough to listen to those who came before you.

Life is only worth the experiences YOU have, not the experienes of those that came before you. And I know, I know...history and "doomed to repeat it" blah blah.....well, it will repeat regardless, whether you forget it or admit it.

And Graycap, I listened to that song. It was LOVELY.....the others in the audio tab?.....typical, safe, and nothing special.

I wanna know if I was the only one that caught how Alicia Keys (probably made to do it by Prince) even changed the lyrics to Adore. RETROACTIVELY changing your song lyrics is some real punk-ass shit!

She cursed, she just put it in a different location. It's after where it should be.

I know because when I heard it I said, damn BET missed the bleep. Good thing I DVRed it because I had to go back and make sure.

You must be on the wrong fan site, music as a art form is not about perfect execution or amazing technical abilities.

It ain't about perfection. Did you WATCH her performance? It was HORRIBLE. Plenty other people here noticed it too, and judging form some posts even Janelle herself knew it stunk.

You lot are all pretending she's the shiznit, but she's just shit. She's just a different flavor of shit, but still shit. Hugely overated. Her album is unlistenable, pretentious pap.

We agree Bart .

I thought I was the only one who though that sucked. Bad song choice for her first of all, and her antics just didn't make sense, and judging from Prince's face it looked like he was thinking the same thing. Life time achievement award, huh? Was that the best that 'his' people can do for him? In a word or 2, I believe Prince was embarassed! To bring this man ALL this way and have him sit through reditions of his classics all in the name of tributing him? 1st off, how come there were no men paying honor? (and no, i'm not) 2nd, if you're going to have all girls why not pick some that have stood the test of time in this business? CHAKA had the likes of STEVIE and PRINCE to honor her - now that's a tribute!

They gave Prince one legend, who pranced around, appeared high and sounded like a damn fool. A hot name in the biz today who took a tremendous classic in Adore and couldn't even hit the notes making herself AND him look like a fool. and 2 chicks that are so new to the biz they havn't even learned how to wipe their asses properly yet.

What did your mama teach you? - if you don't have anything nice to say don't say nothing at all.

All he said was "speechless!" Which is what he was because he knew he could not speak the truth in his mind as to how pathetic their performances were.

SHAME ON BET FOR ALLOWING SUCH A LOUSEY DISPLAY TO BE CALLED A TRIBUTE.

..............or did he have something to do with who did what?

................taking control as usual???

Although I have heard of her, never checked out her music. The performance was the first time I have had the pleasure. Personally, I was not impressed, but as that was my first exposure I will reserve judgement.

If anyone could specify what I should listen to by her that truly highlights her talent I would be interested as many here on the org seem to be in love with her.

I have to give a big worship to anyone that attempts to cover a Prince song period, never mind with him sitting right there looking at you!!! Few have a voice like his and all his early songs showed that voice off beautifully making it nearly impossible for others to cover well IMO. I bet there were plenty of performers who were asked to perform, and not wanting to look like a jack-ass, chose to simply clap for the brave souls who did.

Prince looked, above all else, happy and his eyes sparkled. I liked his outfit even.

Yeah. From the looks shown of Prince's face throughout the entire thing, he appeared as if he was thinking, "The heck?" like he didn't approve of what she was doing. And then there was a point during Alicia's singing where she somehow hit a terrible note, and the camera switched to him, and he looked like he wanted to start laughing at her. His expressions spoke louder than his actual speech. lol

The only time he seemed like "Wow, this is nice," was when Esperanza was playing and he was nodding his head with his eyes closed. Like I said a few pages ago, she did the best performance, no question.

Sadly, this was not the greatest tribute set possible. He made excellent choices it seemed (I thought Janelle and Alicia would be fantastic since they have studied Prince), but to only end up having 1 out of 4 of them represent well is unfortunate.

Yeah I caught that, she probably did it out of respect, or he told her to do it....but she still dropped the "F" bomb nonetheless. After all that muting that BET did of other artists lyrics I'm surprised that they let that fly. It sounded even "less disguised" when she sang it, than when he sings it.

What the hell do a couple of bad performances have to do with that "his people" bullshit that you dished out? Da fugg, you some sort of a klansmen or something? Even if you are black, that's one ignorant ass statement. Heck there are few artists these days that can hold it down like artists did in the past. And you neglect to understand that Prince "hand picked" the artists that performed because HE LIKED THEM.

Heck the best of the best probably still could not lay down Prince's songs like he does. He's unique in his delivery and a tough act to follow, no matter how talented one is. I personally think that Alicia Keys was not all that bad. The falsettos were a lil eye raising, but the song worked. And I thought Janelle Monae did a good job also.

Seems like most of us have a difference of opinion on who represented the best. Because i thought that Esperanza's performance was the weakest. She was vocally weak, and her perfomance was uneventful. Heck she didn't even look like she was proud of her performance. I thought Alica's was the strongest followed by Janelle. To each his own again.

Prince is a tough person to really "read" as far as what artists he approves of or doesnt. Everyone is projecting their thoughts onto the few smiles and solomn stares that we saw by Prince. Nobody really knows what the hell he was really thinking.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

the tribute was full on weird.. it felt like i was gatecrashing someone's house party & watching some kind of hilarious charades.

the ONLY act that really stood out for me was esperanza spalding, she brought the class.. someone had to lol

but strangly this thing was far from a disaster.. it was fantastic to see him get loose(ish) smiling & having fun, he seemed genuinely overwhelmed, his speech was gracious & genuine, although it bothers me that he might have regrets from 'mistakes', regrets are not healthy, he should embrace his past with more pride

anyway he looked amazing, beautiful shirt & electric hair.

thanx to those who posted all the great pics & gifs, those gifs bloody funny..

Lets Go Crazy was by far the worst performance....

i thought Adore was good, but i loved Esperanza.....a stand out for me.

And yes it was great to see Prince enjoying his night...he looked great.

I was wondering if he had regrets or if he was commenting on the Over Dramatic of his music...possibly thinking they didn't need to go over the top like that...if they just stood there an sang, it would have been much better....

Although; I would have loved to see him take the stage...that would have made it for me.

it would have been lovely to see him do something but i found the arrangement uniquely entertaining.. prince clearly enjoying himself so i hope it paved the way 4 more tribute shows, the USA could have it's very own royal variety show/charity event lol

i must say i enjoyed janelle's 'take meee aawwwaayyyyyeee' & then rightfully got dragged off stage

& admired alicia's preggy piano mounting, priceless

pat's knee trembling/shoe kicking was surreal, gawd i thought she was gonna strip

but yes! esperanza performance gave me the goosebumps & had jaws on the floor... no theatricals in sight but she made the right impact & did justice 2 the song

it was a big contrast to the other artists, so maybe she did inspire prince's comments about his wild days, that the shock factor is not necessary?..

I thought it was so inappropriate for Patti Labelle to use the term "freaking" while introdocuing Prince with Chaka. I never liked her but I set that aside and it still sounded low class coming from a woman of her age and tenure in reference to a legend.

I am not being negative, but these BET shows are always so damn 3rd rate.

How? Their sound. It's so OFF and unbalanced. You couldn't hardly hear El Debarge in the last song.

How? The audience is like The Apollo, they don't laugh at anything, and are damn near booing folks off stage for rattling on too long, or saying/doing something stupid.

How? Even the ending announcements about "coming up next" are off. Isn't ANYONE there a real professional?

It's all kind of lame, and muted, ya know?
