Esperanza and Alicia were decent. Stevie's segment was the best part of the tribute. The rest of the tribute sucked the sweat off a dead man's balls. Extremely disappointing.

Just went to that site. The designs on the back of his shirt are nice. Like it better than the front pic. Also, laughing that he is holding Patti LaBelle's shoe in the air like a trophy... [Edited 6/28/10 7:44am]

amazing tribute to Prince enjoyed watching it and loved Prince's acceptance speech

Looks like Boobe Gibson (guy behind Prince who plays 4 the NBA Cavs) was having a good time.

Don't get me wrong I love me some El DeBarge, but this was suppose to be Prince's night-this should have been done with more class.

You ain't the only one who thought that. He looked like he wanted to cry, probably because Trey Songz ruined his signature song.

The BET awards were actually better this year, for the most part. Still some crap, but overall a drastic improvement.
As for Prince, his acceptance was about what I expected. I either thought he'd launch into some labored Jehovah/spirituality lecture, or simply thank a few people and be on his way, which is what he did. He looked GREAT!.
LOVED Janelle's "Let's Go Crazy" and Esperanza Spalding's "If I Was Your Girlfriend." Alycia Keyes and Patti were good too, but the first two were the highlight for me.
Very nice. The Prince montage made me realize how fricking cool Prince is. I know, that may be obvious, but when you see footage from all the years together, it's just "Wow!".

He seemed to have enjoyed the tribute, with Alicia/Patti/Esperanza and Janelle, as he was bopping his head and moving in his seat to the songs that were being sung. [Edited 6/28/10 7:47am]

I think he was moved by it all and genuinely impressed by the performances. He obviously has a great deal of respect for these women and they have just as much for him. It was a love fest!
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Yeah I remember that video

Seriously! El was cool, but it's like this is Prince's night and they really should have thought this tribute out thoroughly.

Man, I can't wait to watch the BET Awards Encore performance tomorrow night. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

I thought the entire thing was amateurish and frankly, horrible on many levels. Prince really deserved better. How often do african american icons like Prince come along, and that is the best you can do to honor him?

You can watch the complete Prince tribute portion of the show, at Dr. Funkenberry's site.

I agree 100% It should have been put together better-I mean it should have been one of those tributes that definitely let Prince know he is appreciated while he is still alive-it could have been great with the right singers.

Poor Princey having to sit through folks messing up his songs.

For real! Prince is currently our biggest icon now that MJ is no long living, although MJ will always be the GOAT.

I'm hoping that BET's audience know that Prince has still been singing after PR and Sign O The Times The way it looked was that PR and Adore were his only hits

I don't think that look is Prince thinking Alicia is messing up, but i believe that's when she climbed on the piano, I think he actually liked that or felt she was reminding him of his 'past mistakes'

I think he was blinking back a couple of tears right at the end of Patti's performance, Shelby gave him a loving look and you could tell he was touched.
Graycap mentioned that P's performance was cut due to time, is that true or did he not want to perform? I'll be madder than hell if they let all these other losers like Piddy and Ludacris have stage time instead. I know a lot of you like De Barge, but why the fuck did he sing so many songs, did he receive an award or something, why was he even there??
I had the feed on mute and didn't even watch it except for flipping to it every once in a while when y'all would say something was going on. But gawd, that was a HORRIBLE show, BET...YOU SUCK!!!!

Exaclty, he just looked nervous when she was climbing on the piano because she is pregnant. It is obvious he appreciated the performances of these ladies who participated in the tribute. [Edited 6/28/10 8:03am]

I thought Janelle was adorable, I know she's pretty young and that youthful energy really works for that song. I love how she was dragged off the stage JB style. It made me smile and when they cut to prince's reaction, noticed it made him smile too. perfect!
Alicia is gorgeous and her performance was great too, her voice seems to work very nice on Prince songs, but i too worried about a pregnant woman precariously climbing onto a piano, lol, but that made it all the more passionate and less of a gimmick.......demonstrating the passion of how women get pregnant in the first place. lol it was great.
It's cool seeing Prince mature personality wise, his speech was nice and humble and all that, but at a certain point in time people will stop wasting their precious time with BS pretenses and let themselves drop their guard a little bit and be real honest and open. Prince still comes off as a bit of a phony. lol Anyway, it was very nice overall and BET made it mostly worthwhile to sit through a typically bad awards show.

Also that 1 min and 2 sec acknowledgement of Lena Horne was seriously WACK
they just needed to jump to sex of Teddy
Lena paved the way for Prince & Teddy and she was a civil rights activist
and that's all she got | |
