It isn't funny, at all. Do you know how they do a hip replacement? The "ball" part of the ball and socket joint (the upper part of the femur) is cut off and a prosthesis is either pounded or cemented into the bone. You've seen how thin Prince's legs are. How big do you think his femur is? This is what they'd be pounding into his leg. Are we having fun yet? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

my only opinion/wish/whatever in this whole deal is this:
PRINCE, HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS. it's obvious something is wrong. there have been some TV appearances and candid photos of late where he just doesn't look good. in the few print interviews prince gave prior to the new album, there were very specific comments about his limp. his comments didn't seem all there for the new yorker interview, which makes me wonder if he was wacked out on painkillers when he sat down with them. he's not touring his new album or doing any special "residencies" like he did with his last albums. he's not even performing all that much. this much is obvious: something in the milk ain't clean. and ya know what? i don't care what the deal is. i don't care if his religion is keeping him from taking care of his hip problem, or if it's a fear of doctors or if it's a pride thing and he doesn't want to acknowledge his own mortality, or...whatEVER. i don't care about the "whys" because it's not my business. JUST HANDLE IT, PRINCE. If I had a wish for him right now, it would be that he'd take at least a year to work it all out for himself. Wipe out the entire purple paisley gravy train and give the hangers-on and yes wo/men their walking papers, hire a couple of people to take care of the house and to cook the meals, figure out a plan to fix that damn hip once and for all, and spend lots and lots of TIME resting and relaxing, reading books and eating healthy and recharging every last battery until he's bored out of his big ol' skull and ready to PROPERLY take over the world again. JUST DO IT AND GET IT OVER WITH. The world doesn't need to know the details. He just needs to fix the problems before something really tragic happens. I don't want to see the man collapsing on stage in the middle of a concert, and I don't want to see footage of Prince getting loaded into an ambulance because he wiped out on the street or in an airport. Nobody wants to see that. Prince has too brilliant and unique a mind to keep it imprisoned in a body that's always in pain and/or drugged up. He really needs to work it out. That's the only thing that matters.

Hip replacement is one of the most common and best studied operations these days (I'm a physical therapist). Younger people get them as well, there are lot of different techniques, and with the best hospitals/doctors he can get ... Of course there are always risks with operations (anaesthesia, infections, bad execution), but they are really well controlled. And then - there are always risks in life, aren't there ?

Usually they donate their own blood ahead of time. And there are other ways around it. It's amazing to me that the same Bible Prince proclaims to read and study w/ friends says "Life is in the blood", so why NOT get blood to live? Aren't we all from the same source anyway, ultimately?
As far as his pain, it ain't a band member. It won't just go away where he can forget about it. It won't go away. Ever. Neither will his pill habit. ----- First of all we don’t know that the reason he is not having it done is because of the JW. Since they have worked around it in the past I don’t think this is the reason. I think he could just be afraid to have it done. Lot’s of people are afraid of surgery and hospitals. I have a have two complicated surgeries and a long stay in the hospital. It is not a fun experience. I think P is just being stubborn and this would be the case if he was not a JW. Bingo! The stories about him refusing to allow Mayte to have prenatal caer during her pg until she threatened miscarriage which is when the baby's congenital problems were discovered lends support to the notion that prince doesn't like/trust doctors or hospitals. I don't think his religion has anything to do with that. My dad who was also a Gemini, never liked doctors or hospital. He only saw a doctor one time, and almost never visited people in hospitals... he hated them, he said everytime he saw someone in the hospital... they died very shortly after (like within the hour) so he stopped going to hospitals. My father had hip replacement surgery. He could not sleep at night, so much pain prior to the surgery. Unfortunately he developed blood clots in his leg. He had to be admitted to the ER. He's on blood thinner meds for the rest of his life and has to watch his intake of green veggies (which helps blood clot). Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! IF this is true then prince should commission a team of skilled engineers to create a robot likeness - a cyborobot - of himself, complete in every detail and into which his consciousness can be downloaded. the cyborobot will be a totally identical copy of prince and, (being partly organic like every good cyborobot is) it can serve as prince's body double. then when the real, totally organic prince goes in for surgery, he can download himself/his awareness/spirit into the cyborobot and stay there, roaming around painlessly within that metal body while his totally organic body is recovering in a status tank, deep in the mountains of a secret, private clinic in switzerland, where i heard they are making great progress in the development of cyborobots and perfection of hip replacement surgeries. just my 2c

Look at all of his girlfriends over the years,... they were of similar build as Prince. Does Manuella, Mayte, Vanity, or any others look extraordinarily small or frail looking for a woman? No, there are THOUSANDS of women that are of similar build. I assure you,... there are hardware for hip replacements that will fit even them... and yes, that means Prince also. He may get hardware that is usually used on women but there is something that will fit. I think he is just avoiding it due to fear or his own belief system of wanting to be natural, nothing foreign in his body. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

this story has reached the danish media: eb.dk, basicaly it's the article from showbizz411.com in danish:
Source: http://ekstrabladet.dk/mu...179800.ece Pic: eb.dk (AP) Prince 4Ever.

[Edited 6/10/09 14:39pm] Gosh, I have to remember that most people here have not been exposed to hip replacement etc. I am a nurse, have recovered patients following surgery for hip and knee replacement. It is painful post op, but there are effective pain medications for that. The recovery will take some work, but prince is in my opinion very good physical shape and will have the stamina to do the exercises needed to rehabilitate. Beleive me, the surgery is very common place, almost done as an outpatient. Patients are DISCHARGED HOME in less than 3 days WALKING. Maybe with an aid (cane or walker) but they are walking and will be able to walk unaided in a few weeks. I have had patients who say after the initial recovery (5 - 7 days) their pain level was LESS with the replacement than before. Can you imagine the damage being done to the tendons and nerves in that joint with ragged bone on top of ragged bone with no cushion. just DEEP bone pain? Prince get the surgery already!
