You are stating your opinion to be fact, as if Prince himself TOLD you why he does not vote...That is how YOU put things, and that is wrong, unless you are quoting it and can come up with the source upon where you got the info...

I don't personally care what you do, but I am just entertaining the idea that there is a better way to depate issues...

It's a logical conclusion that Prince no longer votes because he's a JW. Occam's razor applies here. Prince is a 'colonized mind.'

Edit: Also, I'd suggest if your feelings are easily bruised over debate, try housequake.

NO TO WALMART!!!! NO TO WALMART!!!!

I happen to like Walmart but the thing is, we don't have a Walmart in New York City. The unions here stop that from happening as they don't use unions in Walmart. There's more to the story but I don't remember it. I don't want to go all the way to Jersey or Long Island to pick up a new Prince CD. I'll do it but it would suck major ass. Watch Prince do it anyway. lol

No to WalMart indeed and trust me, I know the story and will not set foot in there.

I want BestBuy but I won't be surprised if it turns out to be that other place.

Back to music...I hope a release date and some gigs will be announced soon. cool
AMEN! Wal Mart is the Devil! Of course if they wanna sale it, theyll just have some bootlegs made up in China and put it on the shelf. Ask Adidas what theyre capable of doing! If it's only available in WalMart, I wont buy it till I see it on ebay or somewhere else. NO TO WALMART!

In the song colonized mind it appears to me that he is telling how he feels about how the "system" is (or he feels it is). Therefore, he may not want to vote because he does not care for how the political system works.

He doesn't vote for the simple reason that his mind has been colonized by his religion. It's their belief which Prince mindlessly adheres to. It's that simple. He's not being some martyr.

maybe, yes, but it's also a choice, as is the religious path he's chosen. Voting can be seen as following the herd, too. Why is one way better than another?

I vote now, after years of avoiding it, but there's part of me that understands the desire to be uninvolved in politics.

That's why I don't care about anything involving another one of Prince's proteges. Even when he was in his prime, most of the stuff from his proteges was sub-par. I can't even imagine how bad it'd be today.

You know, I never cared much about the protege's either. I have some like The Time and Sheila E and I'm interested in Bria and was interested in Tamar but I never ran to get them because Prince was involved. It's nice but I only care about Prince.

Anything is following the herd if you can't arrive at your own conclusion through rational thought and reflection. As Churchill said, democracy is a terrible form of government save for all the rest.

As far as Prince goes, the irony of 'Colonized Mind' is that this is a man who has called for a 'theocratic order.' A theocratic order. Just let that sink in. A man who called for a 'theocratic order' sings without a hint of irony about 'colonized minds.'
No hard feelings.

Here is how I'd rate the songs he's shown us so far (all ratings out of five stars):

Colonized Mind star star star

Wall of Berlin star star star

4Ever star star

Crimson & Clover star star star 1/2

There Will Never B Another 1 Like Me star 1/2

well, I don't subscribe to the theocratic order, but to play devil's advocate, if a person believed their theology to be the absolute truth (which they probably should if they're going to believe in it), then the colonized mind would be about the minds that have been diverted from that truth by bad influences.

I don't have to agree with Prince's beliefs, but it doesn't always have to be that someone is a hypocrite or contradicts themselves just because we don't believe what they believe.

You quote Churchill and it's a great quote, but what weight does he carry that the bible or JW's don't? Where do you draw the line of which influences are worth subscribing to?

I agree with your ratings except for 4ever...to me it's a star star star star song cause it's got all the classic Prince elements!!

If you can't rationally come to sound conclusions on your own by examining factual data and the emprical world around you and not just what your elders have told you, then you are, like Prince, a colonized mind. Accepting that things and the world change and new data is always being presented and needing in turn to be examined.

I don't have to agree with Prince's beliefs, but it doesn't always have to be that someone is a hypocrite or contradicts themselves just because we don't believe what they believe.

Again, the man has called for a theocratic order. To then write a song called 'Colonized Mind' is the defintion of a hypocrite.

You quote Churchill and it's a great quote, but what weight does he carry that the bible or JW's don't? Where do you draw the line of which influences are worth subscribing to?

Because Churchill was English.

As far as what influences your life, again, I would suggest drawing from empirical evidence and rational thought then sorting it out with an even head and intelligent discussion. Inclusion of all people and ideas not exclusion and rights only for those who believe as you do (or calling for a theocratic order). Wasn't Prince even calling for women to submit to their husbands a few years ago? Good god.
No hard feelings.

Ugh. Some Prince fans are so insipid that I feel embarrassed to love the guy's music so much.

His post contained constructive criticism of Prince's new music. Nowhere did he write anything the least bit hateful about Prince himself.

Anyone remember EvilWhiteMale? Now that guy wrote some hateful stuff. Likewise, Bart has said some ridiculous things. I've seen nothing but intelligent posts from Wall thus far. Just because his thoughts on Prince's new music don't adhere to the mass consensus of the fams doesn't mean he's a "hater."

I think some Prince fams need to make peace with the fact that the vast majority of people, aside from those working at Rolling Stone, don't think highly of Prince's new work. Why else do you think he has to perform a setlist of strictly 80's material to sell out those arenas? No one wants to hear him perform classics like Turn Me Loose and Musicology.

Couldn´t agree more with you about orgers like Wall. Even though I still enjoy Prince´s live shows and the occasional new song here and there ( I really like Somewhere Here On Earth, Reflection, Here On Earth, and the music to Lion Of Judah), I can still relate to most of the things orgers like Wall post here because they do have a point and their posts are usually far from being overly emotional but rather accurate reviews of Prince´s current output and eccentricities.
I even enjoy Bart V.H´s contributions here because he usuallly mentions a lot of facts, though I do find some of his opinions a bit too harsh but he often hits the nail on the head.
I kinda miss Neversin posting on this board but who knows, maybe he IS Wall?lol

woot!

I agree fully. Sure, sometimes certain posters lean towards being a little too harsh, but the constructive criticism is usually well thought out and informed. The "positivity" in this forum often veers way into becoming almost literal worship of the man. Prince has done a lot of great things in his career, and he's one helluva musician -that is why most of us are here -but he's not perfect. Everything he does and says is not gold. Some of it is even downright shameful or embarassing. Posters like Wall and others provide a healthy balance.

Truth be told, I tend to avoid M&M mostly because of the prevalence of emptyheaded worship. Other fansites dedicated to performers have intelligent debate and discussion over their heroes' work, and this one used to. But recently something has happened to the Org, and instead the Purple forum is filled with threads asking who Princey's gonna marry next, and how cute his ass is. (it is cute, but come on, people!) But worse than that, is this growing trend of temper tantrums being thrown by those who believe Mr. Nelson can do no wrong whenever they encounter someone who, rightly or wrongly, is offering up a critique. Those who dare do something besides fawn and grovel at his cute little high heels are called haters (rolleyes) and told to leave.

Why must people hate on Walmart because they are non-union? As with most institutions that were first started to help american workers and the underpriveledged (ie. social security, labor unions, wellfare) people exploit benefits (workers doing the bare minimum if they belong to the union, women living with boyfriends and having babies just to collect checks to live more comfortably while damaging kids' views of family and responsiblity). Walmart pays a fair wage and provides benefits. They aren't paying $20 an hour, but most of the jobs provided are for unskilled workers. What is important is they provide employment to Americans and right now that is a good thing. Sure they are non-union but they aren't using whips and chains to keep their workers in line. Unions were built at a time when humans were the machines and did hard labor that risked their health and at the time it was a protective measure for the american worker. I don't think anyone is going to be hurt re-folding a sweater in the kids section of Walmart. Humans will corrupt when given the chance. Not all, but the ones that do ruin it for all. That is what happened to labor unions and that is what is happening to the banks, car companies, and home owners burned by speculators.

What's more Walmart doesn't need a bail-out to keep it afloat. It is a great business plan behind a company that pays a good wage, and has a strong customer base. Can car companies say the same--the labor unions were part of the reason they are all bankrupt now.

Peace and love, peace- and- LOVE.

Maybe it's just my weird little corner of the world, but I'd consider a fair wage one you can support yourself on without having to worry how the fuck you're going to pay rent and keep the heat on. Minimum wage -and the worse alternative, in those places that don't have it -amounts to wage slavery. No one expects to be living a cushy life, or even a middle class one, on a retail wage -but no one with an honest job should have to lay awake at night wondering where to get money for their kids' lunches.

You know what to do in a situation like that? IGNORE THEM. I know I do that with a lot of threads in here. A lot the people who tell the "positive" ones to ignore the "negative" people need to follow their own advice with that one too. People may get challenged here and there for being too negative or too positive, as it happened to me in another thread, but that should NOT stop you from coming here and contributing if you have something to say. I'm sure there is common ground to be found here with all of us aside from us being Prince fans. I try to agree to disagree but sometimes I have to ask some questions as I'm sure many of you in here would do if something was off with someone in here. It is what it is but we can all co-exist together. Well I'd like to think that we can.

I have nothing against Wal-Mart at all but I hate that we don't have one anywhere in NYC. A few pages ago, 2elijah said that the nearest Wal-Mart for New Yorkers to go to is in Long Island by the border of Queens. I live in The Bronx and that would mean having to take around 2 or 3 buses AND the subway (2 subway lines I'm sure) to get to it. I don't want to have to do that. That's just me on the matter.

Yes cam, you are right. That happens to be the same Walmart where the security guy was trampled to death this past November, by a stampede of shoppers, rushing to get in the store, the day after Thanksgiving. It is the only Walmart that I know of that exist within the 5 boroughs of NYC.

I do not believe one exists in the Bronx, Brooklyn or Staten Island, but there is none whatsoever in Manhattan. The one I am talking about is pretty much just after you cross the Queens County line (1 long block) into Nassau County (Long Island) area. You would have to take the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station, 34th Street, if you're coming from Manhattan, which is around $7.00 to $8.00 (that's just a one-way ticket) to get there, and get off at Rosedale station in Queens, cross the street, across the highway and go left, and walk down about 3 or 4 blocks and you will be in the Nassau County area. That's the closest one. The next one closest to that one is near the Sunrise Mall in Massapequa (which you'll have to pass the Green Acres mall first) to get to that one, which is far.

But I just found out that they have quite a few in the Long Island area. In Uniondale, , Farmingdale, East Meadow, and in White Plains (WP location near Westchester), still too far for those that live in the 5 boroughs, other than the Queens residents that live close to the Nassau County line. None of these Walmarts are within the 5 boroughs of New York City.

As far as Target or BestBuy, I'm sure they have one in every borough of NYC. I hope he decides to sell it online too, if that is part of the plan, it is just so much easier.

Now that's the Grade A hate that I'm talking about!!!!...

lol

No one wants to hear him perform classics like Turn Me Loose and Musicology.

because people want 2 trap him a certain time period perhaps? hmmm

the don't want 2 let go of the past? hmmm

the won't let a artist b all that they can b? hmmm

the don't realize they have more music in their arsenal than what they know? hmmm

well all these questions say a lot more about those people than Prince. and i 4 1 don't need 2 see him in arena's 2 have a good time. so if he chooses 2 do small intimate venues playing turn me loose and musicology ..that's fine by me thumbs up!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
