I agree with you completely. Prince is not the greatest singer if you compare him to singers such as Luther, Aretha, Mariah, etc. His brillance is the ability to use what he has to produce amazing music. This is what makes him distinctive, fantastic, and why so many of us are fans. When I discuss Prince to people who are not Prince fans, they are suprised when I say that he is not the greatest singer. Because it is true. Whether or not you want to believe that is personal. So, continue to enjoy what you enjoy about Prince.

As far as Little Wayne, I understand exactley what he was conveying. He was simply giving Prince props in his own context which, to some, seems ignorant and/or unitellegent. His inability to communicate on a certain level doesn't meen he lacks intellegence. He just lacks communication skills.

IMO Prince is one of the best vocal PHRASERS in rock history. The way he shapes a song with his singing is not to be underestimated. Two of the biggest examples lie in When Doves Cry and Adore - songs that are held together almost entirely by the singing.

So there are different measures of GREAT singing. With Prince it's WHAT he does with the ability that he has. Alot of people out there have 'nice' sounding voices... but not many have explored the gift in such creative and ever challenging ways.
