im starting to appreciate Emancipation more than ever before. but to say its alot better than Parade..... shake

there alot of strong songs on Emancipation (Joint 2 Joint, The Holy River, Sex In The Summer) but there are alot of songs that make u go disbelief

all of Parade is strong nod

I respectfully disagree. Parade is around 50-50 for me. Emancipation has about 30 songs I like or even love and about six or so I think of as filler. Result: Emancipation wins percentage-wise as well as in absolute numbers.

After Prince dumped W&L, he went on to to create SOTT and many more genius albums. W&L went on to do the music for the Heroes TV show...they have some talent, but they just dilute Prince's talent when they "colloborate".

And W&L's albums had a couple of good tracks on them...I'm not saying they are untalented, but just marginally talented. And the Parade album was a trainwreck, mostly thanks to them. Yeah, Prince made the final decisions but they influenced him too much. He clearly realized this which is why he got rid of them. And SOTT followed, which was pure Prince, pure genius.

I'd rather Prince bring back Miko Weaver than Wendy...Tommy Barbarella instead of Lisa...but they are still part of Prince history and their appearance on the album will be a bit of fun nostalgia, but nothing more.

I totally feel ya with the Miko comment. (We are probably the only people who feel that way! lol ) He is my favorite guitarist...too funky on the rhythym guitar. guitar I would be so psyched if Miko was on the album, let alone a Prince tour. (I'd pick Fink over Tommy though. smile )

However, I disagree that Parade was a "trainwreck", and even though I personally think SOTT is the single most overrated Prince album ever, it's true that W&L had worked on a lot of the SOTT songs w/Prince as "Dream Factory." (Maybe that's why I'm not that crazy about SOTT...although I do like Parade....)

Hell yeah on the Miko comment and the Dr. Fink comment. And if I recall even though W&L worked on the Dream Factory project a lot of which turned up on SOTT Prince recorded over all their stuff for the released version of the SOTT album.

Parade in all seriousness had three great songs on it...songs that weren't too over the top and artsy fartsy. The rest is only stuff hardcore fammy fams would like i.e., stuff like Do U Lie, Christopher Tracey's Parade, Life Can Be So Nice and New Position are not songs that the casual fan or fans of what he did on 1999 or Purple Rain would like.

That's not my definition! Bart himself declared his fan status as "not a fan" in his profile. I just referenced that.

That being said, I just ask myself why someone who is not a fan of artist X should worry about what artist X does with inofficial internet sites dedicated to him/her. I mean, I don't really care what Cliff Richard does with his fan forums either... biggrin

but just because your not a fan now doesn't mean that you can't appreciate the artist past works and come here and be a part of the org community.

i can understand your point if we are talking about a consumable product like food were theres nothing tangible there to appreciate but prince's previous works will live on...and if folks appreciate a certain era and come here and share their thoughts then...groovy.

Yawwwwwn! Like he's gonna be honest and say "actually we're disappointed with this album. Its more millstone than milestone. Prince is really just pandering to the masses with this tired, rehashed musical shyte. But, hey, we signed the contract so we're stuck with the little fucker. Personally if I were a fan I'd save my money and wait til his back catalogue is remastered and get some Prince music that doesn't make you want to kill yourself."

Um since you haven't heard it and he has I'm willing to take some PR BS over just BS.

Thank you. It really is a matter of preference among these fans and naysayers. At day's end, Parade is in the top 5 of Prince's greatest albums. Those playa haters that are stereotyping the record as being "artsy-fartsy" and "unfunky" or whatever are missing the point. "Parade" is a record of great artistic quality and is just as funky as any of Prince's other records. And anyone that has seen the tour would agree too. The other amazing thing about "Parade" is also one of the reasons Prince is generally great: His blending of many different styles and genres into a cohesive whole and making it his own. What we heard in "Parade" was a blend of many different styles ranging from funk, to psychedelic pop, to Euro-classical, to jazz, to experimental shit, etc. You gotta at least respect Prince and his mighty Revolution for that.

I hear what you guys are saying. For me Parade is severley lacking in the low-end dept. Not that I need for it to sound like Miami bass music, but the arrangements are so fidley-didley, that they need some bass to anchor them. Listening to that album really irritates me."Mountains, Another Lover.., and Sometimes it Snows.. are its best moments.

Here we go. rolleyes I'm not denying Miko's funkiness on rhythm guitar, because yes, he was. I was saying that "Parade" gets unfair criticism because it's being judged not for what it is, but for what you player haters want it to be.

Using a video to prove your argument in live instrument playing probably won't get you anywhere as they are not really playing, but miming.

The Revolution was NOT his best band ever...That statement is really subjective, as LIVE they were not the best.

True, but then we also need to consider what music Prince literally played on the actual album (versus what the Revolution played). Yes, the album is a "Prince & the Revolution" album, but most fans know that it was Prince, not Bobby Z. who laid down the drums on the first 3 tracks; and Prince probably penned most of the lyrics (going by memory on that as I'm at work); therefore, using the music on an album to support an argument for W&L/the Revolution (as NWF is doing) is not 100% proof either. That's all I'm trying to say.
