Yeah and some of those songs were great, but I don't think he used them on SOTT. What SOTT songs do you think that W&L had a hand in (besides the live one?)

The point is not so much their specific contributions to the tracks in question, but the fact that he still had their mojo all over him in a creative sense. I don't want to give them credit for things that they didn't do, but it has more to do with their influence and creative spark they gave him. The sound was updated, but he was still obviously in "Revolution mode" when he created those songs. Lovesexy, while great, is a very different sound and a somewhat different songwriting style after they were gone.

Yeah, that's was I was trying to say too--we posted at the same time. wink

1. the cover looks like apocalypse art from a watchtower brochure. oddly, i mean that in a complimentary way. i love that art. it's fabulous for collages.

2. the 3121 doodie disbelief

3. if this cover art gets a foil or lenticular treatment, it could be really super neeto. nod

Lovesexy was the first one that felt a step down for me, so I can't help but think the W&L had a good amount to do with his peak.

That cover art is awful...sheesh. It looks like he should be selling Lunestra or something

falloff

with all that red, if they put a cool gold border on it and distressed/textured the cover image a bit to make it look "older", it could look like a take-off on an old illustration from india or something, keeping with the "planet earth" theme. meanwhile, i hope this CD comes with BLACK HOLE colorforms. i want to pose VINCENT and OLD B.O.B. on princey's shoulder!

DevotedPuppy, I feel you on the Miko comment. He's a sick rhythm guitarist, and would be a great addition to the tour lineup. I was so glad to see Mike Scott during the Musicology tour - not so much because it was him, but a rhythm guitar really needed to be added and the horns toned down a bit.

Hopefully Miko will surface somewhere on Planet Earth.

The cover:

Is that the Death Star on the left? Pervert moustache and leather corset? Hark! Do I already hear that famliar mocking laughter of friends, family, collegues and the guy behind the cunter in HMV? Well at least it's Earth and not Uranus he's pouting suggestively over, ho ho.

Oh yeah, you mean like this one right? I posted this pic next to the planet earth pic sometime ago, on one of these threads, when everyone was discussing the planet earth pic that was posted at the 3121 site with the static on it, and found it strange that both pics were similar.

yup, like that style...whoever the house artist is for all the watchtower pubs, the style of illustration all looks similar to me.

That's because back then PROFESSIONALS made his covers, not some lame ass fan with minor Photoshop/Flash skills.

After Prince dumped W&L, he went on to to create SOTT and many more genius albums. W&L went on to do the music for the Heroes TV show...

No, they went on to work with Joni Mitchell (amongst others). You know, the singer who Prince adores.

It might be hard to pin down though--if they were all feeding off each other I don't know if one can definitively say, "Oh Wendy came up with this riff" or "Lisa suggested this key." (I imagine it's more like Picasso & Braque with Cubism.)

Prince has nicked ideas from his band members all the time. Miko initially brought lots of stuff to the mix, until he realised that he wasn't getting paid for his ideas. Hell, Levi & Tony M were credited for their work, but in the end they had to sue Prince and they still didn't get the money they were owed, because Prince simply dragged out the lawsuit until they settled for a pittance that barely covered their lawsuit costs.

Always amusing that the record company states "its a fantastic" album..didn't they say the same about Musicology and 3121..personally I would file under very average and fear the same for this one too.

I think I know who has done them for the past few albums. Correct on the crappy photoshop skills and designing. But incorrect on the lame-ass fan. That "lame ass fan" is acually a HUGE supporter of the Prince Community who deserves props regardless of his design skills.

Do you imagine them saying "this album is shit and it is miles away from what he is capable of". That would be funny though. lol

They say you cant judge a book by its cover, but with prince you almost can.
His album covers after 88 were ...

1. Cheesy

2. Ugly

3. Half ass

4. Gaudy

Doesnt he have ANYBODY with good taste around him than can steer his hardheaded ways.

That's sort of what I meant. Though I don't know the guy - he (or she) might not be a genius in terms of design or the second Picasso, but to call someone you don't even know a "lame ass fan" just because you don't like the person's professional output - pretty weak for Mr. "google for some facts" imo.

Btw, if you want to know if a new Prince album is coming out, don't rely on official release dates and crap like that. Just check if Bart is posting in the "Prince" forum. If yes, you can get your money ready... biggrin
