Prince has recently announced the first dates of his upcoming World Tour, beginning August 1 at the O2 Arena in London, where the first of 15 concert dates sold-out in record time. Six additional dates have been added and will go on-sale next week

Does anybody know what music Planet Earth will be featuring? Is it like a rock album, r&b album, etc. or will it be a mix?

For those that are Prince rock fans, is Guitar any good? I still haven't heard it yet. I have to wait till July 24th!!!!!

I love that Wendy and Lisa are on the album. Those two have real talent. I'm still bummed about the Revolution not reuniting.

No one knows what it'll sound like. I am sure it's going to be a mix up as the last 2 have been.

Guitar is great IMO. It actually has guitar in it. Reminds me of Lolita/Vavoom/Cream with a lot of guitar on top. Not the best melody wise (think Fury) but there is some fantastic guitar solo stuff towards the end. The lyrics are ok. I think it's about his break up with Mani.

Yawwwwwn! Like he's gonna be honest and say "actually we're disappointed with this album. Its more millstone than milestone. Prince is really just pandering to the masses with this tired, rehashed musical shyte. But, hey, we signed the contract so we're stuck with the little fucker. Personally if I were a fan I'd save my money and wait til his back catalogue is remastered and get some Prince music that doesn't make you want to kill yourself."

Um since you haven't heard it and he has I'm willing to take some PR BS over just BS.

Um, first you missed the point entirely...which is that even if the guy has heard it and hates it he's not going to admit it because he's trying to sell the fucking thing...tricky concept I know....but think about it for a few days and get back to me.

and....um....I've heard Guitar, which is about as tediously formulaic as a pop song can get and I've heard record execs say almost word-for-word the same thing (i.e. "milestone in career " "return to form" etc. " ) before the release of every crappy Prince album for the last decade...so...um...I'll ...um...stick with my....um prediction if its all the same to ....um....you.

Been out of the org for awhile and out of loop of the Prince's news due to the fact I been busy on my daytime boards chatting about my fav man.

Anyhoo here what I been missing:

Prince got a new album coming up soon.

And Wendy and Lisa involvement.

I thought that Wendy only suppose to appear? Some folks cracked me up on here continue to think Wendy and Lisa are the same person or something.

I preferred to see a Revolution reunion but at least I am glad to see a former Revolutionary on his upcoming album.

this is gonna be a kick ass CD

Guitar has already got me totally satisfied as finally a single worth releasing to radio.

I liked Musicoloy asnd Black Sweat as singles but Guitar is a great lead off single with all the Prince elements that are fun, rockin, and pure pop!

And if radio dont pick it up (which is highly likely) than F 'em!

I so agree! The Verizon download was, imo, an enormous improvement over the demo. Now, the Sony "mastered" version I've just heard makes it even better still. After a hesitant start, I'm at the point where I love "Guitar" without reservation.

Peace, David

Check it out cool Every article is promoting that Wendy & Lisa are back on this new album!

Atleast it is a hook. The Press has picked it up and that is their promotion angle.

Unlike 3121 and Musicology, Im actually more excited about this release because W&L are on it. It seems Prince has finally realised his creativity is shot and brought in the consultants to help him bring that magic back. I hope its there.

Wendy and Lisa are cool but don't think that they "made" Prince. He made "them".

Prince no doubt has worked with talented musicians but none made him.

Prince Roger Nelson is in the Hall of Fame not Wendy,Lisa,Shelia E., Dez Dickerson, Michael Bland, Rosie Gaines or any of the rest.

Maybe I should rephrase my earlier statement. Im not saying Prince isnt a genius and he needed others, it seems he doesnt. BUT, I think W&L have a creative effect on him. By themselves, they cannot succeed like Prince did. Why? Becuase they dont have the charisma, talent and ability that Prince had, and thats why Prince is a big star. But creatively, it seemed that W&L kept him in check and made him focused on themes. I think left alone to make music he has done a lot but it seems he is getting tired and reverting to his old styles, this seems to me to be the seed for a lack of creative spark. I think with W&L, they engendered his creativity and maybe he just wants it back. Hence the phone call to join him on the new album.

I think Prince is great without W&L, but I think he is better with them around. Maybe not forever, but it will re-ignite the old creative spark that he had.

As a musician for many years, I know how working with other creative souls can lead to amazing work. Not that my stuff is great, but it is better when I am inspired to think outside of the box, to be daring. Parade was daring, as was ATWIAD, and I really hope Planet Earth is too.

What I think is funny is that some people think that the girls stood Prince up and controled him like a talking dummy.

Wendy was not around for Dirty Mind, Controversy, and 1999. Both just made guest appearances on SOTT,and no appearances were made on Lovesexy.

Music Icon Prince Returns to Columbia Records with His New Album, 'Planet Earth,' In-Stores Tuesday, July 24

NEW YORK, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records is proud to work once again with Prince in the release of "Planet Earth" -- the latest full-length studio collection from the multi-platinum Grammy-winning artist -- available in North America on Tuesday, July 24, the culmination of a worldwide launch beginning July 16.

"Guitar," the first single from "Planet Earth," will be serviced to all radio formats on June 11. Prince's long-term musical proteges, Wendy & Lisa, are among the musicians appearing on "Planet Earth."

Prince has recently announced the first dates of his upcoming World Tour, beginning August 1 at the O2 Arena in London, where the first of 15 concert dates sold-out in record time. Six additional dates have been added and will go on-sale next week.

"'Planet Earth' is a fantastic album and promises to be a musical milestone for Prince," said Rob Stringer. "The Columbia label is thrilled to be working with an iconic artist like Prince in this exciting stage of his amazing career."

"Guitar," the first single from Prince's upcoming new album, "Planet Earth," will be available free, for a limited promotional period, exclusively from Verizon Wireless.

John Stratton, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Verizon, noted, "When Prince, who has consistently been on the cutting edge of music, harnesses innovative technology to deliver his fresh new music, that's a tremendous opportunity for music lovers across the country. At Verizon, we are committed to delivering hot multimedia services to the public in a way that's powerful, direct and relevant." Columbia Records

You can watch it on 3121.com: http://www.3121.com/guitar/

(It's not the entire song/video--just the verizon commerical, but as far as I know that's the only video circulating.)
