At one point, I even thought about wearing some rain gear...it's still flu season, ya know; but, it would have been too hard to play guitar while wearing a slicker."

Reporter: "Ummmm... "

Prince: " What did you think I was talking about?"

Reporter: ":pause: So, you're nominated for 5 awards tonight. How do you feel about that?"

I'm sure Prince is laughing about all this "controversial" nonsense as much as I am right now.

the funny thing is us as fans are used to seeing him play like that, so we never even gave it a second thought, i never even noticed it till the articles starting flowing in...then this morning my boss was talking to me and commented (knowing I am a big fan), did you see that pose with his guitar? Of course, he isn't a fan, and like many people, hasn't listed to Prince in over a decade....so those are the only ones who happened to notice this, but we know that is just how P expresses his funk in guitar, just as he does with the unique facial gestures

LOL my friends Girl Pointed it out way before the hit the papers.... when i saw it on yesterday in the moring papers in chicago's red Back Page I busted up laughing on the Train... to work I couldn't contain myself.. she said look at prince doing on stage during that performance.. prince Knew what he was doing Prince will always be prince.. a lepoard can never change his spots..

You know what's funny is that he does that a lot when he plays. I've always noticed it, I guess some people haven't noticed it until now. Remember the part in Purple Rain when Wendy neils down in front of him while he plays the guitar, it looks as though she's giving him a "professional" if you catch my drift, he knows what he's doing. That's the new thing for superbowls let's see who can wow! the crowd and have them talking for years to come, love ya P.

If anything, I thought that whole display behind the sheet was just to prove that the guy is larger than life and is one of the best, if not the best musician the world has to offer.

Sure, I agree after reading some of his lyrics that it would make sense, but I just didn't interpret that display that way.

The banana comparison is off the mark - that's unintentionally phallic. My comment was that nearly every car commercial, and certainly nearly every popular music performance contains INTENTIONALLY phallic imagery. That's what makes P's stripping of the metaphor somewhat intentionally ironic i.e. he took a classic phallic symbol and made it look MORE like a phallic symbol!!!

I just saw the whole halftime show again and I gotta say, does it really matter either way if it was intentional or just people making a big deal out of nothing? I sure don't care either way.

That guitar solo was beyond impressive, just the way that it sounds and the way he plays it, just incredible.

I doubt anyone else will ever be able to pull off a HalfTime show the way the way he did.

I thought that was a cool observation coming from someone who listens to him every now and then but still realizes how talented he is.

Yeah, that is funny. I'm gonna keep repeating how I've only seen the second half of "Purple Rain", but that was all it took for me become a fan. I'm a pretty casual fan and I only really get excited about him after a televised performance and the thrill lasts from a few minutes to an hour or two. Since the Super Bowl, I haven't stopped thinking about him. Whether I think about him a little or a lot, I still feel the same. He's incredibly talented and knows how to perform. And you're absolutely right, if he wanted to create a controversy he would have done something different... that is pretty fun, cuz that is the title of one of his early albums.
I'll say this, though, when it comes to stage presence, he's got one unlike anybody else I've ever seen. Once he comes onstage, he casts his spell and I don't want to/can't look away.
