What I want to know is...

Where in the hell have these people seen a penis that has a long ass hook going straight though the middle of it?

At no time when Prince was behind that screen could you not see that hook looking thing on his guitar.

So for them to watch what we were watching and come to the conclusion that it looked like a penis, then they must have seen a penis somewhere that looked like that and I want to see it, too! The folks over at Playgirl Magazine must be slipping! razz

Like I said in another thread:

rolleyes Of course it was phallic and he's always used the guitar that way... Nothing new about that. What's so terrible and controversial about it really? And anyway it just shows what the people who notice this have on their minds. razz My gosh, how conservative can you get?

Right!! My mind has been dirty for years and I watched Prince be dirty for years but at no time during Sunday's performance did MY mind go there but their's did.

You know what...I bet that's the problem. They saw Prince behind that screen and got all turned on, then started imagining what they wanted to see and it's all his fault for being so damn sexy! evillol

that's like europeans asking why americans have problems with race and then have the same problems. It all came from europe, you know that. We might have shot off in another direction but the repressiveness started over there, with all the religious crap.

Em well, there are plenty of conservatives in Europe, but I know that it's not like in the US.

I believe Nostradamus channeled this image when he wrote:

This is such bullshit. This is ridiculous to even consider this. Last year, the Stones let a few obsncenities slip by and no one said jack shit. What kind of society do we live in where everything you do that pisses off the staus quo is brought into question? Three years after Janet's "wardrobe malfunction" and we're still talking about it! Get the fuck over it!

i think the story just shows how out of touch rolling stone is, to swear up and down that the weenie shadow puppet was intentional because he had the spooge guitar back in the purple rain days. i mean, i don't expect every music journalist to be a super in-the-know fammy fam, but if prince is racy these days, it's certainly not that overt.

when i first saw the silhouette-sheet-guitar thingie, i thought it was an amazing image. in fact, i made it my desktop wallpaper the night of the superbowl. now everyone's calling it the new nipplegate. whatever. if i were prince, i'd find it extremely silly.

Well, just so our European friends know, the vast majority of Americans are rolling their eyes at this "controversy" along with us. I'm sure the media was truly hoping for something juicy this year, since they know Prince's reputation from 20 years ago. When nothing actually occurred, they started fishing for some. This was the best they could come up with. Pathetic, actually.

They are just trying to make a scandal out of nothing because they got something they aren't used to anymore.....actual "music". If they kept up with Prince through the years and gave him the exposure that they give these damn shit hop acts, they would know that Prince is a Jehovah's Witness now to the point of being obsessed. He meant absolutely nothing by the shadow behind the sheet other than to enlarge his image.

It seems in a world where the mainstream media constantly bombard us with American Idol, Paris Hilton, pointless celebrity feuds, etc., they have a hard time coming to terms with genuine talent.
And making a controversy out of this just proves that the dumbing down of America continues full speed ahead.
Prince was magnificient, and since a whole lot of people witnessed that magnificience, some people have to nitpick.
On the other hand, if Prince wants to emphasis the phallicness (yep, that's a word) of the guitar, far be it from me to stop him. lol

I was watching the performance and that thought never even crossed my mind. I appreciate that non -fans have a preconceived perception of him, but honestly, its just a guitar. They are making a big deal out of absolutley nothing. His performance was amazing as usual, but somebody always has to turn it around.

I find it sad that when I do a google news search for "prince super bowl", the articles about this alleged scandal are the first to pop up. confused A couple of days ago, the only articles I saw were ones that praised the performance. I guess the naysayers got what they wanted. neutral The more exposure this story gets, the more it will start to seep into people's minds, and they'll say, "Yeah, I guess I did see that!"

It looks like the NFL is sticking up for Prince! Someone posted this article from Contact Music over at HQ.

NFL DENIES PHALLIC SYMBOLISM IN SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW

02/07/2007

The American National Football League (NFL) has rubbished reports singer PRINCE brought the Super Bowl halftime show into disrepute, after some critics likened his guitar to a phallic symbol. The halftime performance at the American football final between the victorious Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears saw the soul singer perform a medley of his hits, but it is his guitar solo during the PURPLE RAIN segment of the show - in which his shadow was projected onto a large white sheet - which has prompted concerns. However, a spokesman for the NFL - who produced the halftime performance - said the league has received no official complaints. GREG AIELLO tells the New York Daily News, "We respect other opinions, but it takes quite a leap of the imagination to make a controversy of his performance. It's a guitar." The 2004 Super Bowl was tarnished by the 'wardrobe malfunction' in JANET JACKSON and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE's halftime show, which resulted in the ALL FOR YOU star exposing her breast during the live broadcast.

I was to busy listening to a genius at work to even notice ,after watching it again i think some people are probably just a bit strange. Infact i think for all those people watching who noticed it & laughed they need to have a look at themselves !!

Anyway they say there is no such thing as bad publicity (it was 1 of the news headlines on XFM London 2day) so i'm sure that Prince is sleepin just fine, i'm gald to see that a few people in the media have focused more on the fact that it was 1 of the best half time shows ever smile
