Yeah, but this is Vegas. You can't do anything in Vegas unless you're 21, really. I know it sucks for underage folks, but that's just the way it is.
shrug

Which goes back to why Vegas is not a good city to set up camp in. Not that he needs to play Disneyland. (but that would be fun if he did smile )

yes and you gonna have the same old people cursing him for doing Disneyland.

you know what, who cares, people are going to complain no matter what Prince does and I'm glad he doesn't care and will do what he wants to do. Folks acting as if Prince has NEVER done shows for all ages or shows at a reasionable price.

He gave those of all ages a chance to see him in 2004 right? in the beginning of the year you could have seen Prince with Tamar, with no dress code for $30!and if he wants to do the nightclub thing that's his choice. People can disagree with the Vegas thing, understandable but nobody is being forced to shell out the money, whoever can afford to go will go, who can't go, just don't go. plain and simple.

Regardless, we'll all have a better take on this after weekend one.

I'm thinking the 21 & over and the dress code are more due to US law/the Rio, not Prince himself. I would guess that if they are planning to serve alcohol at the 3121 club, they have to keep it 21 & over. I think most places that are trying to cultivate a certain clientele have a dress code. If not, I could see people trying to show up straight from the pool in swimsuits and flip flops. disbelief

And you can buy individual tickets for $125--the only time one has to purchase as least two tickets is to reserve a table; which again, could be the Rio's rule. Ten tables with 2 people each spend twice as much money as 10 single tops. shrug

twocents

shrug Clubs all over the place have all-ages shows, with those old enough providing ID and getting a drink card or stamp or whichever. It's done all the time. No reason this can't be either.

And I don't see 125 as a reasonable price, either. Considerably better than the deal, but still not reasonable.

I never said whether I though $125 was reasonable or not...I only pointed out that there was a one ticket option.

One last thing about the dress code--nighttclub attire is definitely not the same as dressing like you're going to church; at least not in my book.(If it were maybe I'd still go to church. lol. okay probably not.) Upscale nightclub attire can be something as basic as a pair of fitted black pants and a camisole for females. I dress up more than that to go to work somedays...

shrug

Ummm...no, I swear like a truck driver but wtf does that have to do with whether Prince does or not? lol

shrug Why defend the supposedly mature decision to stop cursing (a decision based on faulty logic, no less) if you continue the habit yourself?

WTF is your problem?? Just because he quit cursing has nothing to do with me, it's his business. I didn't 'defend' it, there's no need to, it was HIS decision, not mine. I meant that it's OLD news and people need to get the fuck over it.

A lot of people make that decision when they grow up, for various reasons. If you think that's 'faulty logic', that's all I need to know. Personally, I think it would sound pretty stupid for a almost 50-yr old man to be on stage talking the way he used to. (and no, before you say it, I wouldn't talk the way I do here in front of my clients either, it's called being professional.)

As for the youngsters, that's another reason he quit cursing, so he wasn't being inappropriate in their presence. Is there something wrong with that?

So what if I am? I think I have reason not to be thrilled.

When I first heard about the Vegas idea, I was not overly happy. But I adjusted, and eventually thought the whole thing might be pretty cool. Then I heard about the prices, the stipulations, the dress codes. I'm supposed to be happy that younger fans get shut out of the experience; that you have to dress like you're going to church to get in; that it's $700?

Since when does "huge" come to mean U.S. and eastern Canada only?

Why should it be adults only? I am old enough to go to these if I could, but why not let the younger fans in? Nightclubs all over the place hold all ages shows, so it's not like that wasn't an option.

Huge = lots of stops, I said nothing about WHERE it went.

I don't know if they can do 'all ages' shows in the casino nightclubs, Vegas has it's own rules/laws. Reports said the Gaming Commission even had to approve Prince being financially involved with this deal.

As for the pricing, the $125 is totally reasonable given the venue size. Check out Patti LaBelle's ticket prices for a 4,000 seat venue:

Rows 1-3 VIP* $200 (includes pre-party)
Rows 4-13 $150
Rows 14-22 $110
Rows 23-25 $75

The dinner package price isn't outrageous either. When you figure in your dinner, show ticket and a bottle of booze, it's not bad. It's more difficult that it's for a minimum of two people, but that's the limits of the club. I'm sure it was that way before Prince took over, they can't make money if they have 1 person sitting at each table drinking water or cokes all night.

Txladykat:
I just called the Rio and this is how the lady on the phone broken it down to me if you paid $125.00 for the performance, and you decide you want a table without the dinner, see item #1:

THE FOLLOWING PRICES IS FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS ONLY:

1) $374.52 -For 2 people or couple for a table/bottle w/tax/gratuities included - does not include dinner or the ticket, the ticket is $125.00 and paid for separately.

Now the $374.52 is not bad provided two can split the money for the table if you are going with a friend.

-----.
2) $694.00 - With Dinner/VIP tickets to the performance/table/w/bottle which includes tax and gratuities - for 2 people or a couple
-----

For Wednesdays it's $31.21 always whether there is a musical guest or not. It is advised that you call the Rio to see if they will have a musical guest that night or to check who the musical guest will be.

Remember the $374.52 for table/bottle - (dinner not included) you are allowed to bring one guest to the table with you (includes tax, gratuities and processing fees) and remember the $125.00 club fee is separate.
(When you purchase the $125.00 club ticket from tktmaster expect to pay a convenience fee which will total about $143.00.

i've gotta agree with Meow85 on the pricing. thats too much. the most i've ever payed for a concert was around 115 bucks for two tickets. closest to that before was 55$, i figure if a show alone costs more than 80$, its a rip off. oh and i'm canadian. so thats more like 70$ american. over that it better be a damn good show, have more than one artist/band, or have something incredibly special about it (ie. final show ever or something).

I really dont understand Prince´s fascination with all this ´celebrity mega-star´ world. I understand that Elton John and Celine Dion love Vegas, but Prince was kind of an ´underground´ icon in the 80s, like Bowie was.

It must be a middle-age crisis or something, trying to prove he is still a mega star, but I hope he overcomes it. Some people did it. Guys like Miles Davis aged with some dignity. Here in Brasil, Caetano Veloso released a very angry raw produced album at 65. Bob Dylan´s new album is praised by some critics. I hope Prince recovers his creative spark after all this Vegas thing.

PS: please dont start the ´if you dont like Prince, why do you come here?´ thing. I love Prince, I loved TRC, I loved his 90s output. I dont think his career ended after Lovesexy and I am a very loyal fan. But I feel free to express my opinion about some things.

Well..I'm a bit tired of the PUT DOWN of Las Vegas.
I've lived here now almost 3 years and it is a nice city to live in.
People that WORK here do not spend their time on the strip like visitors do.
I think its a great set up for Prince. Bsides, if he wants to have a great property built up this is ideal and we might get some Celebrations again and not have to worry bout freezing in the snow!!!Been there...done that..NO FUN.
Its a great business move, most artists, stars blah blah blah do own property in this town. Honestly, when u visit Vegas next time, venture on the outskirt of town...its wonderful...especially if u like Bike Riding cool
Wonder if Jseven was invited to the VIP Luncheon today in LA ?? That's another good way to promote. Good for Ya Prince..I wish U the very best and MORE! lol

My God you are blinded by famdom aren't you?

Prince has just become Barry Manilow; this is not the raw fuck/rock legend of the 80s; this is a tired, generic R&B artist looking for some money in a newly commercial career. For all his bad-mouthing of the record industry, Prince himself is turning NPG Records Inc. into an incredibly commercial venture not too unlike what these "big, evil labels that steal your masters" do to their artists.

Okay...it's time for a sensible Prince fan to step in (LOL).....First off, I'll be the first to admit that when I heard the news about the midget going Vegas I was horrified...I didn't want dude to go the path of Fat Elvis and Barry Manilow...And that's real talk...But any senisble person that has done their homework about the club and the gigs should know that this is a totally different situation...

First off, the midget is leasing the space, which means he's basically opening up his own club...We also know from media reports that Prince is booking the acts for said club himself...And then there's the fact that a lot of folks tend to conveinently forget: The artists that are scheduled to perform (with the exception of older legendary acts like Chaka Khan, Patti Labelle, and Maceo Parker) are not exactly "Vegas" type talents...Do you think an "incredibly commercial venture" would have leftfield and underground acts like The Roots, JDavey, Ceelo/Gnarles Barkely, Mint Condition, Esthero, and the like???

Again, I'm down for dishing out some criticism when it comes to the midget (His botched handeling of the 3121 project, which should have been backed by a tour; the fact that he has yet to put her proper remasters for his past albums; his questionable choice for singles over the years...)...But shitting on Prince for establishing his own club as a business man (You remember Glam Slam don't you???) and not just as a performer (See Elton, see Celine Dion, ect...) is silly and misses the big picture...You would have been the same cat screaming at Prince 25 years ago for being attached to the film Purple Rain; you would have been the same cat screaming out that the same guy that put out Dirty Mind was a sellout for laying down with Hollywood...In other words, it aint that serious...

Read into the whole story first and then make a reasonable judgement before coming off with a knee jerk reaction...I think that's the mature thing to do, right? Anyway, peace and for real, I see where you are coming from...I just think you need to read up on all the details first...
[Edited 11/3/06 8:11am]

Eye agree wit U, Murph ~ eye'm all 4 Prince coming here 2 Vegas ~ livin here might b an influence tho wink

And P could NEVER b a Barry... come on... The only thing that makes Barry halfway good is his back-up band and dancers... that's it ~ they're the whole show...

Prince's talent is amazing... and his taste impeccable.

Uh-oh, somebody might lose their spot in the 3121 sequence:

http://crunktastical.blog...tolen.html

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the arrest occurred at 3 p.m. in Terminal 5. Williams, a popular comedian who recently starred in his own HBO stand-up comedy special, was stopped at the security checkpoint. Security officers found a concealed weapon in his carry-on luggage.

The LAPD was called and Williams, who is also a popular rapper, was arrested. Cops determined the concealed weapon was stolen. They also found three additional weapons in luggage that Williams had already checked in.

Williams, who is scheduled to host BET's first ever Hip-Hop Awards later this month, was booked on felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon and several other offenses.

Why are some of these 'celebrities' so stupid as to think they can sneak weapons thru an airport?!?!

I don't actually think it's that big of a deal that he is playing in Vegas but the general public seems to think it's sad. 3 or 4 people knowing I am a Prince fan have told me that they heard that Prince got a steady Vegas gig and then proceeded to tell me how sad it is and I heard the word "over" a few times.

There is a stigma.

But, don't RIP him just because he's not going to tour for a few months, this is a temporary thing.

I hope it's temporary and not pulling a Celine Dion stunt. I like Vegas, but I don't love it. And if I went there to just see Prince it would cost well over $1,000. I'd rather spend that on booze, shoes and hookers! lol
