I know exactly what I'm talking about. Prince gets a 90% cut of the profits under his label so he's using that power to rake in the cash - totally understandable and normal, and yes - the gigs will sellout because he is Prince, but just because I highlight a flaw in this website's Messiah doesn't mean I'm a stereotyping idiot who doesn't know what he talking about; you in fact are being that yourself by making that assumption, and again - "superb" artists is a matter of opinion, not fact.

As for the 80s, that affects nothing - we still have rockstars today who are far less commercial; the business of the music industry has changed; image hasn't. If Prince wanted to cultivate that rockstar image he could, but he chooses not to.

This business decision dosent make Prince a "fucking idiot". I'm not blinded by fandom, nor do I consider this artist some "messiah" nor you some "stereotyping idiot". People that make short jokes have their own SHORT-comings.

First off: Get a sense of humor...

Secondly: If you've read any of my post in this thread, then you would see that I'm a very fair individual..In fact, I'm arguing that Prince operating a club in Sin City is an intelligent, business saavy idea...

Thirdly: Let's not turn this site into a MichaelJackson.com where I have to be worried about being pulled out of my bed at night because I've hurt someone's feelings in a particular post...As a height-challenged dude myself, I'm cool with throwing around such terms because they mean nothing to me...Hell, I refer to myself in such terms...Again, with all due respect (because it's all love) I suggest that you folks try not to worry about the feelings of a multi millionaire who doesn't know you from Adam...I'm a fan of the music and I think Prince stands as a music immortal...But if you can't understand that I'm having a fun and that "midget" is a term of endearment, then I'm sorry homie...

well damn. that means i can't go solo confused i remember reading that there had to be a minimum of 2 people for the 312 deal.

Txladykat:
I just called the Rio and this is how the lady on the phone broken it down to me if you paid $125.00 for the performance, and you decide you want a table without the dinner, see item #1:

THE FOLLOWING PRICES IS FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS ONLY:

1) $374.52 -For 2 people or couple for a table/bottle w/tax/gratuities included - does not include dinner or the ticket, the ticket is $125.00 and paid for separately.

Now the $374.52 is not bad provided two can split the money for the table if you are going with a friend.

-----.
2) $694.00 - With Dinner/VIP tickets to the performance/table/w/bottle which includes tax and gratuities - for 2 people or a couple
-----

For Wednesdays it's $31.21 always whether there is a musical guest or not. It is advised that you call the Rio to see if they will have a musical guest that night or to check who the musical guest will be.
[Edited 11/3/06 10:19am]

thanks for the investigative work! Just what I thought, has to be two people. I fly solo to Prince shows, hubby doesn't understand.

You're welcome. Maybe one day you can talk him into going to one of these shows should it continue through 2007. Or maybe you can talk another fan into splitting a table with you when you get there. The lady said there's still some tables left if you're going next weekend.

lol I'd actually think this might be a possibility except that would mean Prince would be trapped on a boat with his (female) fans. There would have to be some serious security on that ship...
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Girl...if you mean 3 card Poker, that is my new gambling addiction. We were in Vegas a couple of weeks ago and played that for hours...LOVE it! But, not enough to keep me from his Royal Badness!!

Oh hardy har har, that's pretty funny. Let's hope there's an asshole restriction so you can't get in.

I think it's so cool. I would love to take a trip to Vegas just to see him.

I don't follow Prince's personal life too much, but I would imagine he is trying to find an alternative to touring, but still reach as many of his fans as possible. Touring is such a grind for the artists and crew. Plus a lot of fans have to travel to see Prince anyway, his tour doesn't stop in their hometowns. So traveling to Vegas for some fans isn't all that bad. And there are all kinds of specials package deals to Vegas. I've seen Prince here in Austin, but I've never seen Janet or Madonna, for example. Even though I'm not a huge fan, I was moderately interested in seeing Madge, but after the price of tickets, travel, and lodging it was too expensive. I don't know if Janet is going to tour this time around, but for sure she won't be stopping here--probably Dallas if anywhere in Texas. At least with Prince's shows, the price doesn't seem to be too bad--well there are some options although I'm not so sure about the quality of the seating.

I think it's a great idea. I know some people think it's a a sort of "has-been" or "sell-out" thing to do, but I just don't look at it that way. I think once again, Prince is taking the initiative: he is not reduced to playing in Vegas; he is choosing to play there.

Couldn't agree more. People saying he is doing Vegas for the money makes no sense; he could earn far more quicker through another tour without doubt, whereas this Vegas thing is a risky experiment that may fall on its ass. Therefore Prince, as usual, is taking the less-trodden route for a star who can still command stadium audiences.

Seems funny to me. Clearly Vegas attracts millions of visitors every year who quite happily travel there, pay for hotels, gamble, and enjoy the sights and shows.

But reading the Org, it seems only a handful of fans here would be seen dead in Vegas and are bothering to go! Or can afford to go. From this I can only conclude your average Orger is a) not interested in glitzy holiday destinations or b) skint pretty much all the time.

Vegas can actually be quite a cheap vacation, if you plan right and don't gamble your money away. I've never paid more than $350 for airfare and hotel for 3-4 nights. Hotels will often sell rooms at cheaper than their own cost just to get you in the door (as they are assuming you'll be giving them plenty on their casino floor, and most people do).
Something like this at last minute notice will break your bank, but with some time for proper planning, it can work out quite nice. Here's hoping this will go on for a while. smile I'll go out in a couple months.
