The sort of culture that breeds obese people waiting for a slimming pill to invented rather than doing some exercise. That moan about floods and increase in tornadoes but don't want to give up their gas-guzzling cars. The sort of culture where people sue for millions for the slightest thing. Where record companies would rather turn out one-hit wonders for maximum profit than invest in longterm development of artists and bands. As for Prince being too busy, well, any other popstar you would argue that he should get his priorities straight. His album is complete and out there; apart from rehearsing for a forthcoming tour he shouldn't really have anything else on his plate other than promoting the album. But Prince is probably busy recording new tracks that will never see the light of day. I was thinking that the AI people should be careful what they wish for. Do they really want Prince talking to these kids? Can you imagine the advice he would give them? Anyways, He would've been required to spend the whole week with them if he coached and performed, so I believe he really felt he didn't have the time to spare. He's supposed to be putting a tour together. I want to see Prince on tv too, but I don't think that show is the right vehicle for him. He's not really at his best when he's out of his element. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

It had nothing to do with talking to the kids, he didn't want to tell the kids how to sing. He believes you should find your own voice. And let's be honest, the only reason he was going to do the show was to help his own career. I'm sure he could care less about the career of a bunch of overrated hasbeens. If he wants to get on a high rating tv show he should try to get a part on Prison Break.
He could play T-Bags prison bitch. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I was one of the people wanting to see Prince on American Idol last week but after watching AI last night, I FINALLY saw that it would be a mistake to have Prince do the show. They BUTCHERED those Queen songs. All of them. As much as I want to see the man on TV, even on something as big as AI, I don't want to see his music tore up like that. And if not talking to the kids and not having them do his songs are going to stop him from being on the show then good. He doesn't need them. He needs Oprah! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I don't really get why people hate on American Idol. I don't watch the show, but its audience isn't really Prince's audience anyways. There has only been one winner from there that's stayed popular on the charts(Kelly Clarkson), so blaming the show for the state of the music business seems kinda weird. IMO.

They've let these "kids" butcher Stevie Wonder, Queen, and Kenny Rogers songs already. Which by the way was the only reason these folks were featured ...because they had new albums out or coming out.
What excatly would Prince say to these people anyway? He had to pay his dues in the business by going to NY and peddling his demo tapes, proving himself to a record company and playing the chitlin circuit. And these little boogers are going on live tv every week and singing other peoples songs badly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There's a conspiracy to sabotage Prince's efforts to have hit records and Jack has to find out who. The action can take place between Prince rehearsing for American Idol and the actual show 24 hours later... It's genius.

What, people with ears? Who exactly is Prince's audience? I thought it was people who like pop music. The show is (partly) responsible for the state of the music business because it created a blueprint, a formula for success - record companies trying to fast-track easily controllable pop wannabees via minium investment, maximum over-exposure for nothing more than quick financial returns.

Even if he went on the show and talked to the kids, he could still look like such a looney tune depending on how he interacts with them. It could make for some uncomfortable viewing. Speaking for myself, I don't blame AI for the state of the music business. To me, AI is merely an unpleasant manifestation and symptom of a much larger disease, and I don't enjoy that symptom, nor do I care to support that it or help it to survive. [Edited 4/12/06 17:29pm]

Prince is shy. It's taken me quite awhile to get this. And if he should make a mistake while being spontaneous no one is going to want to forgive him. So let's just say I understand but at the same time I wish he'd just say what he means and or wants. But that would be taking out all of the mystery of the man we love and call Prince. So let's just respect his decision and accept it.

If Prince doesn't want to eat a Big Mac, will you call him an asshole?
American Idol is exactly what Prince stands against as an artist. From the very start, Prince has refused to submit to this kind of star making process where you are told what to do at every turn. It would be weird to see him coach young kids who just signed a contract that farms them across the nation for lame Motown medleys, with the grand prize a chance to get told what to record and with whom under a contract that says they own your ass. The best that could ever be hoped was a performance by Prince and Sheila E doing the coaching, and even that was quite a stretch, considering the years of railing against the system.
