Sorry if the headline offends you but this whole Prince not doing American Idol
because he doesn't want to talk or inter-act with the kids on the show is
really sad. Don't get me wrong I love Prince and his music but I really think he feels like he's God almighty himself sometimes. Why does he feel like he is above talking to people who admire him. If he would have went on American Idol and was really cool with all the kids, showed his wit, sense of humor and showed 30 million people watching at home that he isn't as weird as most people see him as and then did a killer performance on there, his album sales would have sky rocketed back to #1.

If he didn't want to do the show because he doesn't like the show that would be totally fine but not going on because he might have to talk to the contestants is really sad.
American Idol is garbage. I'm glad he didn't go on there. They're not really interested in talent on there anyway.

i dunno, did you see what them kids did to Queen's music last night? Normally I don't like when Prince gets all high and mighty but I think he made a good decision this time. Can you picture that Bucky kid doing Delirious with that hillbilly as drawl of his? and Prince having to listen to them destroy his music?

It looked like Taylor wanted to slap of crap out of a couple of those contestants. Very telling. Prince would walk off of the set.

American Idol is only 2 steps up from VH1's Sureal Life.
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

cool That show is bad. I do not care how many people watch it. It sucks! I always wonder why it is such a big attraction. Prince does not need to do American Idol. Why is he an a**hole for refusing to do a show he probably has no interest in at all. If they really wanted him on. They would have settled for him just performing. That would have been an honor for them. I do definitely think he made the right choice to not do it. Prince should stay away from that mess of a new version Star Search.

1st, american idol is watched by more than 30 million people so some of y'all need to stop frontin' like YOU don't watch the show.

2nd, if p doesn't wanna do the show he doesn't hafta do the show.

3rd, while i don't know prince personally, his actions often make him look like an asshole. whether he is or is not doesn't really matter; he does nothing to prevent himself from looking like an asshole and, as is often the case, it is his own actions and words that make him look like an asshole.

4th, the quote most of you have heard is a sound bite from that Nigel guy (AI's producer). yes, he did say that prince didn't want to come on and talk to the kids but he quickly corrected himself and followed with, "its not that he doesn't want to, he just doesn't have the time to do it." i heard the guy say this with my own ears.

maybe he was put under pressure by universal to "seriously consider" it. maybe he thought about the business advantages of appearing before he thought of how the show clashed with his standards. who knows?

You know, the more I think about it, the more this reminds me of Morris Day in Graffiti Bridge, when he had to go talk to Aura.

Prince: I see this show all the time. What do you think?
Jerome: We could go on, kill the crowd, and clean up on the charts!
Prince: Cool. Go talk to them. I'll be posing by the Porsche.
Jerome (to Simon Cowell): Prince wanna be on your show. He want to beat you. I mean, meet you.
Simon Cowell: Oh yeah? Punk, go get him.
Jerome: Hey, Prince, he want to talk to you!
Prince: Ohh Lawrd...

You all make it look like it was his idea and then he renegged.

It probably went down like this... Universal people get a call or make a call and pitch the idea. They are keen on it..."Let's ask Prince". Prince says he'll "think about it" ...thus starts all the speculation. He didn't even think for more than a week (a few days if I'm not mistaken). I am sure he gave it some consideration, of course. And then he thought "I got a tour" to do "I have an album to promote", "I have a single to get out there"...not that these things take a lot of time (or that he's doing them)...but AI takes some time from this schedule of things to do. Probably more time (a full week probably) than he could commit to.

Oh, there's no doubt the show is very watchable, in the same way a car-crash is, but you still don't like the outcome.

Prince's people have never said he was doing the show, and normally I wouldn't believe gossip, but it seems there was a radio interview with Nigel Lythgoe who mentioned that they had talks with Prince about doing it. Nigel was behind the first Pop Idol in the UK, so I assume he must have something to do with the American version, he has a nasty persona but seems a pretty straight-up guy.

I don't really believe Prince does care, but he has commented on it a few times, such as before playing Purple Rain at Wembley in 97 (or was it 98?) when he said some stuff about the papers calling him crazy. And then there was the interview with, I think, The Sunday Telegraph where he said something like 'Wierd? No, a little highly strung maybe'.
