He's just so fuckin' pissed off about the fact that the AI winner will sell more copies than 3121 lol
I think Fantasia Barrino first LP was a better record than 3121, i don't care who wrote the songs and who produced them, only the final result matters.
Prince shouldn't write songs & produce music alone anymore.

I think that attitude, of just hiring a producer when you want a hit and basically turning upto the studio to add vocals, is exactly what's wrong with music these days. The music should be driven by the artist not the producer, which is often not the case anymore. Personally, I'd rather not have a record by some 'in' hit producer with Prince just singing over the top even if it was a hit - I've always loved the fact the records have always been Prince's personal vision, for better or worse.

It's not like Prince has not contradicted himself in the past, like not playing his hits again or not using a major label record company.

He seemed to launch his comeback in '04 playing alongside Beyonce - who is EXACTLY like these American Idol kids . . . singing songs that others wrote and playing no instruments. I don't see where he draws the line anymore . . .

I know he's most likely not interested in the TALKING part of the show, but Barry Manilow did it and had a #1 album to show for it. Queen did it, and they now have 4 songs in the iTunes Top 100 downloads.

So American Idol DOES do a great job at promotion, and he'd have a new generation of fans to show for it.

All good points, but I can just forsee all sorts of things going wrong when Prince is out of his element. I don't think AI is the right vehicle for him.

i don't agree. there was never any question that these acts were just trained seals singing songs that prince and his bandmates wrote, then putting together choreographed shows and making T&A videos. unlike american idol, there was no pretense of these acts being great talent. it was all about the spectacle and the bewbs and the naughty funky songs.

I'm sure there were plenty of folks that had no idea and still don't know that these were Prince projects...

Nobody is pretending to write their own songs on American Idol... They sing live... Come on, I mean these guys are singing or at least trying to sing Freddie Mercury tunes... their performances are going to be compared to one of the greatest vocalists ever... their talent, or lack thereof is out there for everyone to see... How is that a pretense?

The pretense is that these kids are expecting to be treated as an established pop icon just because they won a karaoke contest. Despite their "lack of talent", Prince's girl group performers were given personas, characters, choreography - they were trained to have some kind of stage presence. It wasn't about having great melisma or holding a note really loud for a long time. It was about putting on a fun show. How is THAT pretense?

Some of them may be expecting that... some of them won't. I wouldn't call that pretense. That's just false expectations.

Don't you think Vanity expected to be treated like a star just because she was given step-by-step instructions from Prince?

It is a pretense because they did not start every show by saying: "We didn't write these lyrics, we didn't choreograph these moves and we didn't write the music."

On Idol, nobody has any doubt that the singers had nothing to do with the music... It's all out in the open.

I dont blame him for not doing the show. Its a joke. That doesnt make him a Ahole. That makes him smart. There are better ways of promotion, than talking to kids in a karaoke competition.
Did you order a pizza ma'am? Prince- UTCM

but none of those prince acts even played instruments. confused

didn't most of the credits on those albums cite the starr corporation or jamie starr as the writer and producer? the only "pretense" was that everyone thought it was just prince, when it was him and his band members and members of the time writing the songs. and that's just kinda cool.

Sorry if the headline offends you but this whole Prince not doing American Idol
because he doesn't want to talk or inter-act with the kids on the show is
really sad. Don't get me wrong I love Prince and his music but I really think he feels like he's God almighty himself sometimes. Why does he feel like he is above talking to people who admire him. If he would have went on American Idol and was really cool with all the kids, showed his wit, sense of humor and showed 30 million people watching at home that he isn't as weird as most people see him as and then did a killer performance on there, his album sales would have sky rocketed back to #1.

If he didn't want to do the show because he doesn't like the show that would be totally fine but not going on because he might have to talk to the contestants is really sad.

Yeah you think that's bad....try to work with or around Him. I can't say much because of a non- discloser contract but. Anyway go on Npgmc and say that --they bow to Him to the point where you get sick--- DAC

what the hell are you talking about. Prince should not associate with this garbage on any level. The only reason he considered was that he is a good businessman. the show is trash, I'm sure that's the reason he won't mess with it. My last, and I mean last music teacher tried to bring me down a few notches by comparing me to the kids on that show who can't sing, I basically laughed at him and got rid of his ass. Insult me with something meaningful at least.
