I think his last great album was ONA: Solo Piano & Voice. Some think his last great album was Purple Rain. Don't you think that one can find a negative thing about ANY Prince work if he or she just wants to? For example, YOU want him to write music with more memorable choruses and hooks. Let's just assume he does it, maybe the next guy comes out and says "He is making melodies for kids now, he's gone Britney Spears". You can do that even for his past work. Examples: 1999 - too electronic, Purple Rain - too commercial, ATWIAD - too much 60's influence, and so on. In other words: YOU seem to prefer music with more sing-along type choruses, but does that make a tune bad if it doesn't have that kind of chorus, or is it just something YOU dislike? I still find the hook of "Fury" very memorable btw... [Edited 2/7/06 3:59am]

AT LAST I HEARD WHAT EVERYONE HAS BEEN RANTING ABOUT!!!! Living in the UK, I can't watch SNL anywhere and have instead spent the last few days salivating over the comments about it here and on other forums. But I found it online at last!! Watched both clips and WOW!!!! In fact both songs are great, but Fury being so powerful you kind of forget there was another track!
Now, humming and humming it I knew it reminded me of something, and eventually my humming morphed in to: WHITESNAKE - Fool For Your Loving!!!! you know the one with guitars by Steve Vai.....I think our man actually played this just to impress Stevie who we know is a big fan too....!!!! Prince is pretty much the only mainstream musician's website that he has a link to from his home page vai.com. Anyone agree or not...?

Some folks seemed surprise about how good P sounded on the guitar. Not me. I've seen P get down on axe many times live and he could do this in his sleep. P's been in the game since 1978 throwing down on guitar. he's been playing longer than that. P's BEEN good on the guitar. I'm just glad that he choose SNL to turn it out on guitar. Those two twins that he had were BEAUTIFUL!! I was like "Yeah, cool. P is tearing it up on guitar. But DAMN, who in the hell are those two fine wickeds up there with him?!

bkw said: SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: Why does "Fury" need a hook?. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this song!
It has a hook. It's not in the lyrics but in the recurring guitar lick and synths. You dont "hum" rock songs. Many great Rolling Stones songs i.e Satisfaction etc dont have a hook in the lyrics, it's the recurring guitar riff. THANK YOU! I was reading all these comments about there being "no hook" and scratching my head. Yes, the hook isn't vocal, but in the guitar and synths (and that hook just KILLS me!) Wait! YOU liked this song???? You haven't liked a new Prince tune since, what, 1983? Surely this is a sign of the apocalypse! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Black Sweat & Beautiful Loved & Blessed are supposedly available for purchase as singles in stores today. And they will (supposedly) be available for download this evening from NPG. THey might be on iTunes or elsewhere right now. (I don't own an iPod so I don't download MP3s.) You can watch Fury at Housequake and there is a way to save HQ clips to your computer... (Although I don't know how to isolate only the audio part for burning to a cd or iPod) Can anyone tell me if there is a way to do that? The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Well, I've already said that he's still a fantastic live performer. I just think he's lost his knack for writing pop songs. Prince has always been at his best when trying something new. He's obviously tried really hard to please everyone with these songs off of 3121, but the elements that make pop music work just aren't totally there. "Black Sweat" is his attempt at an addictive little pop ditty, but its' chorus is weak. "Te Amo Corazon" is his attempt at a beautiful love ballad, but it never turns into anything. I've now gotten like twenty claims that I'm too negative or can't be pleased by anything Prince does just because I'm not blown away by ONE new Prince song. I even said the song's solid. Some of you are acting like I said Prince is a washed up has been and the song is embarassing. Yes, technically the song has a hook, but it isn't a very good one imo. The lyrics are kinda cute, the guitar is awesome, but the song just doesn't stick with me. Sounds a little too much like a Vegas show tune. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

(Just kidding about the protest part; but "Fury" is a wack name) i think "fury" describes the music perfectly Truly Prince played that guitar with some amazingly severe 'fury.' But also the word fury can be defined as a spiteful woman or a woman with a bad temper so it is a perfect fit either way.

Agreed... All this "there's no hook" talk is foolish, but expected from certain posters who cannot give any "current" Prince song props... Sure, they will admit to liking songs from the "recent past", in an effort to prove how they're not biased, but they will never admit to it when a song/project is the most current release. Contrarians cannot hear without prejudice. A pity, really... they're missing out. This song stands up to ANY guitar-driven song in his catalogue.... Period!
