eek I'm still amazed. I really hope there is the same kind of guitar work on the album version. It sounds like an instant classic.
After Black Sweat, now Fury, I'm totally amazed. woaw woaw woaw

That is some of the best guitar playing Prince has done PERIOD.

He did shit he USUALLY does just with ONE HAND this time!

He's bettered his old style TEN-FOLD.

I hope the album version kicks as much ass because I just wet my pants!

It does have a Hendrix vibe and it was time that Prince
gave us a rock track again.

It sounded great live and hopefully it not too "cleaned up"
on the album version.
I can't wait to hear 3121! So far Im in love

(gushes with joy) biggrin

I didn't like it...I LOVED IT!!!!!
Wow, about time he whipped out the guitar in front of a huge audience. Wow, was he ever ready to play. That was thrilling. So happy he didn't do 'black sweat'.
I was looking forward to 'Te Amo' though.

"Fury (A Woman's Thorn)" is the best song from 3121 so far! I absolutely love it. I can't remember being this excited about a new Prince song in a long, long time. This song is rockin!! I can't get it out of my head, lol, I love it to death.

I think "Te Amo Corazon," "Black Sweat" and "Fury (A Woman's Thorn)" are all great, and I think 3121 is shaping up to be a very good album.

Great song.

I'm not particularly one for guitars antics, so it's not that it's a rock song per se - it's just a very well-crafted pop song.

THIS is the kind of song a lot of casual listeners in the UK would be interested to hear from Prince again - People have been saying for years he should release a decent rock/pop song over here and promote it - If he is performing at the Brits this year, he'd be mad to perform one of the other 3121 tracks we've heard so far other than this...

I play guitar for about 7 yeas and i was about 30 days without touchign it, kinda bored at it. I even bought a bass yesterday, and I am doing some drum loops on fruity loops, i wouldnt play a chord to save my life. BUt after i saw that performance, man, fu ck the bass and the fruity loops, i wanna play guitar again.
Thanks langebleu for the chords, and more important thanks Prince. You made me wanna play guitar again after 2 weeks, try to mimick your licks. BRILIANT SONG, ASTONISHING. INCREDIBLE. lol

i don't care who or what it sounds like
at least there was a hendrix for Prince to admire
or else how many black rock-guitarists today
would be called sell-outs for doing
what Prince just did?
everything is influenced by something
and Prince made this song his own!
give credit where credit is due
"Fury" is amazing!
and so far...
this makes two unbelievably GREAT songs on 3121
i knew he had it in 'im!!

clapping thumbs up!

That was one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen on SNL; far superior to his Grammy performance that to this day continues to be talked about as if it were the stuff of legend. “Fury” is the stuff of legend, along with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Clapton, The Rolling Stones and Hendrix -- if he were still alive -- I suspect would all love to have “Fury” in their grand repertoire.

This is the type of song that can make a career, or reshape one. It’s that improbably good.

And if Prince should ever find himself in the presence of a Stones’ audience again, he now has the goods to keep the drunken Hells Angels from violent outbursts; unless you count demanding an encore at knifepoint violent.

First stab lyric transcription:

Fury

U must have heard it on the news this morning
"Congratulations! New star is born"
Sun 2 his shadow, rose 2 a thorn
There ain't no fury like a woman scorned

Y'all must have dug it, when u did your thang
It's like a song, everybody wanna sing
When the music's over, your ears ring
With a voice that's saying, "Queen got no King"

He got a message saying, u tried 2 reach him on the 'phone
He didn't wanna answer cuz he's so afraid
U'd probably tell him just 2 leave u alone

I bet u heard he got another band
They're makin' money, they're makin' plans
U feel left out, but u need 2 understand
Word on the street - he's still your man

Look out, here comes your rainy day
But u think you got a good reason 2 say
Always in ur heart, come what may,
Even though his might get .. broken

Who's the guilty one when there ain't no judge or jury?
Shadow 2 the sun, lets do the one
Hell ain't got no fury

Will this song have a happy ending?
Will his heart need a-mending?
What's the name? Only she knows
Only the woman knows, only she knows

2 sides 2 every story
One man's gloom, another man's glory
Sun 2 his shadow, rose 2 a thorn
Ain't no fury like a woman scorned
Ain't no fury like a woman scorned
No fury like a woman scorned
(No fury like a woman scorned x 2)

I heard it playing in the other room, and for the longest time, I didn't even know it was Prince. lol And that's a GOOD thing. I was expecting the same old thing from him, (which I got from the other songs) and he really surprised me with this one. nod Good song, awesome guitar, and loved the Hendrixian overtones. I could have done w/out the backup singers/dancing though. confused He doesn't need it.

That's a definite F9 he's playing in the verses, just to make it sound more authentic!

OK, so anyone want to speculate about the lyrics? They're pretty pointed! Think they might be aimed at anyone in particular? hmmm

I'm thinking it's now:

Gmin / | F / Cmin | Gmin / | Repeat

With a similar switch in the bridge on the first line:

Bb / / / | A / Ab7 / | Gmin / F / | Cmin / Gmin / |

Bb / / / | C / / / | D / / / | D / / / |
