Wendy and Lisa's new material highlights Prince's immaturity.

discuss...

The two songs off the new album are markedly better than anything Prince has recently released. It appears that Prince's girls have grown up and Prince hasn't.

It's been a recurrent complaint and one shouted down... can you hear it now?

Beyond All The Midnights In The World, the last album sounded quite desperate... Now W&L have come along and shown it to have been that, at least.

One hopes that Prince will mature and make music that speaks... not so, at the moment, he merely bleats and hopes a purple shroud will mask a deficit of ideas.

I assume this is a bait post right? What's this sick need to put Prince down to try and lift other people? If u enjoy Wendy and Lisa fine nothing wrong with that, but what does what they do have to with Prince at all?

If anything u seem to be the desperate one worrying how mature or immature Prince is compared to somebody else. Its pure silliness. Why do u care how mature Prince is? If he is too immature for your listening pleasure why are u still listening and why would the rest of us care who enjoy what he is doing regardless of some percieved maturity level?

I often wonder how many people who post here are need of some kind of medication lol.

So you've bitten?

Sick? No, exploratory, yes... Prince/Wendy and Lisa, one and the same... in a limited kind of way. i.e w&l grow, p seems not to... again, discuss...

I must say, I enjoyed the 'What's it got to do with Prince' question. Remember 'In This Bed I Scream'? Recall the Brits performance/ Consider the appearance on Planet Earth... What could W & L's newest release possibly have t do with Prince?

You're right about one thing, however... I am the desperate one... I really, truly, with all the hope in my heart, want Prince to release a properly good album again. In that regard I'm the most deperate of all the people thatn inhabit these pages... at least, I'd fight them for that title. I can't remember the last time I put a Prince album on... and it pains me. I recall the ecstacy of ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT and Lovesexy... I even remember the day Come came out with some fondness... I want Prince to release another great album. W&L appear to be following up GirlBros (superb) with a.n.other exquisite long player... Is it too much to ask Prince to make an album worth listening to more than thrice?

'perceived maturity level' discuss... The one that covers barry manilow or the one that writes life o the party?

'medication' notwithstanding the slight and the ill-conceived nature of describing someone who may disagree with you as mentally unstable or ill, I'll happily have my conscious mind altered if it means it hears and understands a new, innovative, rebellious Prince.

I can't give a truly objective opinion, as I haven't heard W and L's new stuff, but I will say that I have not been impressed with Prince's more recent work. It seems that he is wrapped up in his own world, and to me it appears that he isn't putting forth the effort to make high quality music like he used to.I was thoroughly disappointed with Planet Earth. It felt like it was thrown together at the last minute, lyrics, music and all. So, from that view point, I may have to agree. i will take a listen to Wendy and Lisa's album to further concrete my opinion.

Have u ever considered that u are the problem that u want solved? Whatever your perception is of greatness obviously isn't Prince's perception now is it?
Shouldn't u just move on to more satifying music then expecting Prince to read your mind and make the album that BoySimon wants? Some of us are satisfied that's why we stick around. Those of u who are trying to get blood from a stone are exhibiting illogical tendancies. Bashing Prince is not going to magically make u like the music more. U can't "hate" someone into doing what u want. Methinks if u were so satisfied with the output of W&L you would not be coming running here to blast Prince.

I haven't checked for W&L in years. I'm glad they are doing well and still have fans. I'm just not interested. I certainly have no interest in going to their site and worrying about how mature or immature they are relative to Jill scott or sheryl crow or even Prince.

If wendy and lisa's music for their album is great then ok nobody or even Prince has said other wise. If they dont work with each other 2 much anymore than thats there business. Its as if your making out Prince and wendy (and lisa) arent coool with each other because ive heard other wise. Why the fuck are you soo bitter. Its your opinion on whether you think Princes music lately isnt good but like tricky said you dont have 2 knock others down to prove a point. This should have been taught to you in the 3rd grade

That's just their opinion, they should never speak a word against Prince, if it wasn't for him who would have even heard of them? But of course he knew that all the time didn't he?! neutral

NouveauDance: now, that was funny.

Tricky, I don't understand why 'I' have to be the problem. you've called me mentally ill and now a problem when all I'm doing is expressing an opinion about music I care about.

Should I move on to other music? I have. Do I care about Prince? I do. Do I want Prince to read my mind? No. Do I want Prince to take on his competition? Yes. Am I the only one that can see a link between the releases of Prince and other members of his band? I don't know... if you read NouveauDance, possibly yes... though the fact that she took the time to announce she was walking in and out means that she thought about the question posed.

And, finally, if you're satisfied with Prince's music as it is now... burn your copies of Prince 77-93, because they bare no resemblance to the man who records under the persona now.

They certainly do bear more than a resemblance. Just as your high school picture still looks like u. People change, Prince changed. Why is that so hard to understand? I will no more burn Prince's older music then I would torch my high school yearbook. I think u would be highly offended if someone expected u look like your high school yearbook photo. In essence that is what u are expecting of Prince. He has been there and done that. U and he have moved on divergent courses accept that and move on. U keep yelling for Prince to create "good" music so u think Prince has decided he no longer wants to create "good" music?

U should not presume that Prince is not doing exactly what he wants to do. When and what was the last time Prince produced good music to u? I would bet a million dollars that whatever that music is it is not shared by all the other fans. Its all subjective to our likes and dislikes. Pull your head out of your own ass and look around. Its not just about u.

Sure
His growth as an individual spiritually as well as emotionally which is reflected in his music. Peoples state of mind is some what different as they get older that happens to everyone whether its 'Prince' or not. Real fans respect that and grow with him as he shows us more to his music; and most importantly respect and pay homage to even have had an artist around like him to have shed light on other talented artists like Wendy and Lisa in the first place. And those that dont know what they can do

'know what they can do'? why are you so antagonistic... ironic, i know, considering the challenge of the thread title... but, why? 'real fans'? fuck and off. how dare you. 'grow with him'? this is not a cult. Prince's output over recent years has been a shadow of his former self/earlier albums.

What spiritual growth? Where? How? How realised? Prince's recent albums have been lacking in anything like spirituality. In fact, some of musicology was spiteful.

High school picture.... hmmm... look like... superficial appearance... hmmm... not actually what I'm writing about. And by the by, my comprehensive school picture looks nothing like me. I've grown up. My passport picture of ten years ago looks nothing like me. I've grown up. Prince may be doing exactly what he wants to do. It ain't grown up.

I didnt say you should fuck off but please feel free to. If you dont know how to have a proper conversation then dont start one. What the fuck did you expect. Everyone to agree with what your saying? In the real world shit like that doesnt happen this is a public forum different people are going to think different things. Dont make me out to be 'telling others' when im obviously directing my comments to you. If you think his recent albums have been lacking spiritually then thats your opinion but im damn sure entitled to mine so dont ever tell me otherwise.
Ask for your passport dont come of topic because i dont really care. I wasnt talking about growing physically and i dont give to shits if you look 10 years younger so save yourtrue life story for 'E!'

Wow. Someone expresses an opinion and the kool-aid kids attack like pirahna with a wounded tuna in the water. There's a shocker.

I've ALWAYS maintained that when W&L left after Parade you could absolutely hear a change in P's music and not for the better.

They gave his music a sophistication that i miss dearly.

And what i think Simon is trying to get across, is where W&L seem to be comfortable with themselves enough to make music is not only being used to score major television shows, but also working on their own stuff that sounds incredible, Prince sounds like the older he gets the more desperate he is to try and figure out how to "get back on top".

Sorry, kool-aid-kids. As much as ya'll would like a "Stepford Wives" forum where everyone thinks Prince is the music messiah that ya'll like to think he is and everyday will be "Starfish and Coffee", it's not going to be like that.

Every Prince fan doesn't have to be a robot. We can have a honest and frank discussion about the man, flaws and all.

Now ya'll got two targets. Have at it.

Whatever. My whole point is just that. EVERY ONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR own opinion but when i feel someone is trying to knock down mine obviously im no 'stepford wife' that will nod at insults that will never happen. Yes hes trying to get his point across but theres a thin line between doing that and sounding some what disrespectful. If people are having a discussion dont go off topic with personal shit like 'my passport picture hasnt changed' just shows your ignorant when starting discussions it didnt cross his mind 'YOU KNOW WHAT somebody might have an opinion different to mine'

Yeah, i am. But i'm doing it ON PURPOSE.
And the worst insult out of my mouth usually is "kool-aid-kid" which is my pet name for those of ya'll that are obviously drinking the purple kool-aid. But if you are, why front? ACCEPT IT!!!!

My point is for the kool-aid-kids, ANY opinion that falls short of "Prince is GOD" = INSULT. Look at Simon's initial post again, and point out the disrespect? It took 2.5 seconds for you know who to come right in and accuse someone who doesn't think like HE does of"needing medication".

It's like if someone points out something negative about Prince to the kool-aid kids = HATE.

Again, just because someone doesn't think like YOU it doesn't mean they're not a fan, or they HATE Prince, they're just a fan with a different opinion! When i see ya'll react like that instead of the ludicrous shit i see in here, i'll stop using the term "kool-aid-kids". Until then, it's on.

I know right. lol

Now I'm the first one to admit I like some of his older work better than I do the new stuff. But I don't feel the need to whine about it all the time. One would think that every single track Prince put on tape during the 80's was a masterpiece. And one would also think that everything W&L participated in writing was a masterpiece. Not true on both accounts.
