I like Wendy and Lisa, but I don’t dig their albums, i spun them a few times , but just don’t dig them.
But, from listening its obvious they are smart poetic chicks. Nothing about their albums brings out the cringe factor like 90's Prince albums. If you dig Prince's 90's albums its cool, just don’t say they are not immature, because they are. They are like some high school friends that never grew up, living at moms telling the same stories and jokes for the past 15 years. I think that was the main jist of this thread, the W&L grew up, and Prince is mentally still living at moms telling the same stories and jokes, a 50 year old man trying to fit in with the kids. disturbing in a way. [Edited 8/23/08 17:13pm] oh yeah a 22 year old prince could have composed something like savior, soul sanctuary ..yeah okay ... man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Dig W&L music or not, they are talented. Talented as is Sheila, Eric Leeds, John Blackwell, & Rhona Smith (to name a few). You have to respect that. Did Wendy & Lisa form Prince's sound back in the day? NO!...but did they help? Sure in hell yes. There is no question they influenced him. When they left, his sound changed...the Black Album, Lovesexy where great, but then he definitely went thru an immature period (D&P and Symbol). At the time W&L went their own way on Eroica, film scores, Girl Bros, and to my ears grew tremondously (sp?).
But then Prince finally shook off all that pseudo-hip-hop and has grown as well. Starting with Come/Gold Experience...but more obviously with Rainbow Children. Lately he's been on autopilot...but his recent releases aren't THAT bad (I personally LOVE 3121) But they all have grown...the argument seems kind of ridiculous now.

And another thing...I was reading the old Michael Bland interview and they talked about how in PP Prince has a pic of the NPG band framed and hanging up...you dont see no Wendy and Lisa pics scattered through out the place.
What is the allure of the two? Im not dissing but sometimes it really gets 2 me...like people actually think Prince couldnt be Prince without them Why is that? Why are they SO special? And its ironic because some of you are so hardcore sometimes that I think even W/L would tell yall 2 fall back with the "W/L koolaid"

I never understood the Wendy and Lisa fanaticism either. Some folks on here act like they're two goddesses, who should be worshipped. Why???? They're musicians, just like every other musician that Prince has worked with. Prince has worked with a lot of good musicians during his career. People fawning over Wendy and Lisa have lessened my liking of them, to be honest. Some folks act like Wendy and Lisa are the alpha and omega of everything, when they're not! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Have fun y'all...I am outta here! i love how everyone throws up jughead like that's the ONLY song prince did with a hip hop flava that's all u can come up with. wow ...and when ur in the game and still being relevant, the next musical wave was hip hop so prince did what he had 2 do 2 remain relevant. r u done crucifing the man 4 doing so? oh yeah there was rap in girls and boys don't hear u bitching about that. there was rap on the black album, don't hear u bitching about that either. and the fact that u choose jughead, a song where prince only raps one verse out of the whole song proves even further, that ur disdain is 2wards tony m. IDIOT man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

So, anyway, like I said... W&L appear more mature in their work than Prince does... It was an opinion. I just love the defensive nonsense that people start out with... heyho... So, to sum up... Prince, not quite the mature lyricist/composer that I'd hoped he would evolve into; W&L, much more mature.

What sets Wendy & Lisa apart from the other members of the Revolution is that Wendy & Lisa are talented in much the same way that Prince is. They are extremely gifted music producers, multi-instrumentalists, song-writers and vocalists. They were classically trained and performed jazz, R&B, rock prior to meeting Prince as young women.
