And actually, this amazing gig of the century from the other night... I've watched all the clips I could get. I don't think his heart was in it. I think the set list was perfect, and technically it was great... But you know what, I think it looked like play by numbers compared to his more emotional nights. It's like he was setting up the standard to hike up the demand and possibly price., seemed quite cold.
I've seen him channel Jimi before... From what I could see he didn't on Sunday.

The clips don't tell the story then. It was certainly not by the numbers. I haven't seen him so happy and into what he is doing since 2002.

One thing I will add that may give one the cold impression about the clips of the gig, P was showboating, no question about that, but is that not we all love about him,and IMHO makes him unique. I have never seen anyone have an audience eating out of their hand like that before. The key was for me, we the fans, felt we were part of the gig. Excuse the fact that I have now messed the sequence of the post up...

I think what squirrel told me the other night about the legendary Small Club gig is relevant to this. The clip on YouTube is no reflection of what it was actually like.

dayzofwyld.......Kiran, with her tweet, wether indirectly or not encouraged people to believe he would be playing last night, they was no other way to take it, knowing how loyal and deperate some are to see him that was a totaly iresponcible tweet if he wasnt playing. I have total sympathy for everyone who make an effort.

It's not her problem if fans hang onto her every word, she asked a question and probably got hundred of answers...if it didn't work out..so be it..people need to quit whining as if they have nothing else in their lives.

Whilst respecting your views, I really have to disagree, I think as a 'manager' used very loosely here, she is resposible for her tweets and therefore its her problem. Having said that I would imagine she thought there was a gig planned and a certain someone changed their mind smile But she would have seen a lot of fans were making their way into town, and at some point she would have know nothing was going to happen, she coud have saved a lot of effort from a lot of people with a simple update tweet, maybe shes not in the loop as much as she thinks she is.

I was there - certainly wouldn't say it was cold...!!! But the real feel of it doesn't come across in the clips - it's a nice reminder for those of us lucky enough to have been there at the time but a clip doesn't convey even a tiny percent of how truly great it really was.

I'd certainly take the view of people actually in attendance above what I felt from any video clips or bootleg recordings. I don't think I've seen a bad word about it from anyone that was there.

That said, do any London audio boots exist yet?

I was there too, Prince was smiling, the band and everyone in the crowd were having a great time and it was cool to see some footage but it doesn't fully convey the atmosphere of that night. I've never experienced a crowd going nuts to that extent and a gig that was so special ever. I've seen Prince several times, at arena/stadium gigs but I wanted to see Prince in a more intimate aftershow setting, which I did when he played the last aftershow at the O2 in 2007. That was great but it felt a little subdued, it certainly wasn't as much fun as the gig on Sunday, that was so euphoric and so LOUD my ears were ringing all of the next day!!! I don't know how Prince and the band managed it, they promised us the best night of our lives and they delivered, it was such a fun gig I was still blown away till Thursday.

Good luck to those after tickets for his next gig, I'm sure everyone of these shows will be just as epic as what we enjoyed the other night.

I think it more likely they simply couldn't close a deal with a venue (Prince's accountant is probably having kitten over Sunday night's price reduction too). BUT Kiran should have sent anbother tweet saying as much. Simple as that.

From reading the tweet yesterday, I straight away assumed it was just IF there was a gig tonight, who would pay 70? Just like Sunday where they tried something similar at SBE. I could easily see Prince wanting to know how big a venue he could get away with doing that in and still filling it up. I was tempted to book a coach down from Blackpool for yest morning on the off chance of a gig but didn't get round to it, and as soon as I saw that I knew I had made the right choice by forgetting to book a couple of days before.

It's not up to management to have to say whenever there is no gig happening. I get the idea of the hit and run and shows being announced last minute, but when no gig has been announced (or even when it has for some temperamental artists), travel to anywhere without a guarantee of tickets is at the risk of the fan. I know it would have been nice to clear the air, but do also think some comments have been a bit unfair.

From a marketing point, yesterday would really annoy some people but make sure Prince is being talked about more and constantly in public eye until the release of the album. The die hard fans who were the ones out and about are probably still going to buy the album, but others might need a bit more reminding that he's still about.

As February is already halfway through, can we perhaps expect a couple more small- medium-sized gigs and then a full-fledged NPG + 3rd Eye Girl show at RAH or O2 at the end of the month? It seems there's a week open there before the 28th when Beyonce is in town.......

Why should they? They never said there was anything happening, and imagine having to say every day "no gig tonight". They could have easily ended it, but aren't responsible for what others make of their tweets. I read exactly the same tweet as everyone else and took away that there was no gig from it.

Because it would have been the decent thing to do.

I can't remenber where I read it, but when the uk tour was first anounced I am pretty sure the dates I saw somewhere was early/mid March, anyone else see that?

I am still hopefull of a properly ticketed tour in decent size venues, although I am not as sure as I was a week ago.

*sigh* we will have to disagree on that. My opinion has been made clear. The very nature of this being "Hit n Run" means last minute announcements. It also means people have to make plans to travel and react to that announcement. Kiran's tweet specifically said about a price and the word "tonight". Any idiot can see this would set hairs running and people travelling. ALL SHE HAD TO DO WAS THEN TWEET AGAIN TO SAY "SORRY NOT HAPPENING BLAH BLAH".

In fact while I am at it - why is there any need to be bloody cryptic anyway? Is there a gig yes or no? Simple! Just say "negotiations underway with possible venue. Price expected to be £70. more when confirmed"

Indeed. And, someone who is trying to comment on a show they didn't even attend is pointless. Of all the blu-rays and such I have of concerts, as good as some of them are (and always better than an internet clip!), absolutely none of them properley convey what is was like actually being there!

Fair comment.

Why would they have to do that? It's not like yesterday was based on any random rumour, people reacted to a tweet directly from someone assosciated with Prince. If Joe Bloggs on twitter said who wants to go see a show, I wouldn't need them to comment. but when management have tweeted something suggestive and seen the ensuing events, it is only right and proper to follow it up.

So glad I made it to Shepherds Bush last Sunday...If it's the only gig I could see then it was certainly a kicker! Maybe the "storm" they referred to in today's tweet will be some more and bigger shows...and with advance ticketing! Yes, as you say, it's hardly a "tour" with only the 2 nights they've given us thus far...

Agreed, the problem word in Kiran's tweet was "tonight"...remove that and all yesterdays "excitement" would have been avoided. neutral

Why should they?

Because they've chosen to do these kinds of shows, where attendance is reliant on keeping your ear to the ground for a suggestion that there is going to be a show on a particular night.

Obviously people can't rely on every vague rumour they hear, but we should be able to rely on as suggestive a Tweet as yesterday's from the horse's mouth.

I can't help thinking that things can't be going according to plan. It's all seems a bit messy with long periods of silence and nothing happening. Perhaps the bad weather has scuppered some of their plans or they can't get the venues they were after?
