Good show, but the first night had way more encores and a better setlist. No adore, if I was ur girlfriend, baby I'm a. Star. Crowd seemed stunned that there was just 1-2 encores and finished. Sucks for me as I shelled good money thinking it'd be easier to get good seats the 2nd night, but you live and learn.

Here is a rough setlist, but I'm not as familiar with the covers so expect something more accurate to come:

Gold
You will be moved
Let's go crazy
1999
Delierious
Little red corvette
play that funky music white boy
Purple rain
Everyday people
Nothing compares to u
Angel (sarah mclaughlin cover)
Take me with u
Controversy

Sampler set:

Doves cry
I would die 4 u
Sign o the times
Kiss
Most beautiful girl in the world

I'm sure I'm forgetting some songs and the order is off but that's the gist of it.

Really wish I went last night instead though.

Tonight was fun, and I was thrilled to hear Gold, Hot Thing and a few others, but the boring ass covers set brought things waaaay down for me. The crowd seemed to dig it though.

A few things to note: He sang U Will Be With Me over the first half of Shh, which was kind of neat to hear, and he tossed a few lines from Extralovable into Little Red Corvette. I really do dig this new arrangment, but does he not usually play guitar on it? I'd only heard the Montreaux recording before tonight, and he obviously lets rip on that one.

All in all it was a great show, but I wish I'd gone to last night's night show too.

Edit: Where the hell was Maceo?

prince seemed to be in a MUCH better mood tonight than yesterday (and it's not like he was a wet towel yesterday). This was my favourite Prince show so far (compared to yesterday's show and the first of the two shows in Montreal last summer). His energy and performance was much higher. His singing and guitar playing was better...

highlights for me:

Shhh + U Will Be With Me (wowzers, I liked this much better than Adore from yesterday - and I love Adore)

Mountains - non crappy version

The giant funk medley with the covers and stuff... Lots of funky guitar and a version of Alphabet St that I really liked. Not the one that's more rockabilly.

I liked Shelby and the girls, too! I liked the songs they sang and I like how Shelby wasn't telling everyone to clap their hands all the time.

Again, just in general the level of energy and effort put into the vocal performance was great. Last night felt like a great show from Old Man Prince. Tonight though... judging from what I've seen on youtube, I'd prefer tonights performance to even most of his 80s shows.

i wasn't at the show last night but from what i heard tonight and read about last night i think last night was probably better. (if not only for the 5 encores)

only 2 encores, hubby was not impressed with all of the covers.

the energy was high and most people danced all night.

he brought people from both sides of the stage to dance.

from where we were sitting the vip tables didn't seem all that special to me. his stage is very high and any movement from him across the stage andyou couldn't see him.

as far as i am concerned if i am in a room with prince and i can see him sweat, not have to look on the big screen to see it, it is a good night:lol:

we were in section 120, row 8 - got the tickets earlier in the day for $67 taxes in and the seats were AWESOME!!!

we were sitting behind a degrassi actress, the former editor of flare magazine and in front of the actor idris elba (got a pic with him)

i am one happy camper

I think Shelby shouted "Put Your Hands Up," at least 400 times total in the 6 shows I saw this year. Either she is sick, or you are lying. Just kidding... Ok, maybe Prince has figured out that saying Put Your Hands Up a billion times more than you hear at a hip hop concert doesn't help matters.

if she did, i didn't notice at all. I'm a Shelby fan now!

Maybe I have a skewed perception of things because before the show i was feelin' down because of some issues with a close friend, but the show made me feel totally happy with everyone and everything. It really made my day.

I was at the Nov 25th show (last night) and tonight was much better. Yes he does a whole lotta covers for some dumb reason but tonight was a party from start to finish. There was also less of those lame back-up singers annoying me tonight and more Prince!

I wish Prince would just understand that we are there to see and hear him, not some covers or back-up singers (unless he gets some hot girls like Sheila E).

Its weird because last night was much longer but tonight was tighter and more up-beat....You can't mess with HOT THING...that beat is just crazy awesome!

thx 4 that. Maceo had another show w/ Pee Wee. This is his FBook post:

as many of you know by now last night at the Air Canada Centre was super bad with Prince! Tonight I'll be back with Pee Wee Ellis at Koerner Hall for "Still Black, Still Proud"...

Much better show tonight...

The arena was nearly full...

Prince came with the hits and tore the place up...

The aftershow was neat but he didn't hit the stage - instead he MCd from somewhere in the club with a live mic on..

Definately disappointed with him not getting on stage but will stay focused on the positive - he destroyed the arena show!!!!

I think the show was better as well tonight, even if shorter. Starting with Gold was so powerful, and I was feeling much more emotions than last night.

Even if some songs were the same as yesterday, the whole repertoire was higher in quality today.

The Hohner Telecaster was more aggressive, and he played the Stratocaster on a kinda cover of Wild Thing, maybe because it's Jimi's birthday tomorrow...

Less people came to dance on the stage tonight, but one girl was the lucky one because Prince passed the Guitar to her at the end of a song. She didn't happen to play... but she touched it smile

The bad news is that security was very strict with the cameras tonight. NO cameras were allowed, I had to try my chance to a second gate to be able to get in.

I'll post on the afterparty thread, I was there as well.

It looks like it is the same setlist for a while now over and over again with only little surprises.

I wish Prince would take a long enough break to show up with something "new"...

Always interesting that as a group we have such different preferences/expectations from/for Prince.

I was at both nights - very different shows.

Friday was more of a sustained dance party and featured Maceo. It was unique because it went on forever.

Saturday was more a "guitar" night - SHHH/Crimson Clover. Tighter more traditional show.

And I love the covers - I want to hear him play stuff I have never heard him play live.....appreciate the hits, but have heard them before and I want to see the band stretch out on something unexpected. The Bob Marley tune was beautiful.

And after 14 shows, I finally got Mountains live which made the night.

Good to meet cami41 - when my wife finds out "Stringer Bell" was sitting that close and you got a picture and she did not..........maybe I just won't tell her.

Hope to see you in London.

All in all it seems like a great show, like the W2A ones. But I too cringe on the thought of his backup singings being given so much stage time and covers, I mean why? He keeps telling his fans he's got so many hits, etc... yet he feels he needs to educate us by introducing other people's songs? One or two at the most is OK… Reading reviews on here sometimes lowers my expectations for the upcoming show (I'll be attending the Halifax concert)… I always fear that it'll be a bit dissappointing, but from experience, it shouldl be amazing. I'm paying money to see Prince sing Prince songs, and play the guitar and the piano, and the bass… is that too much to ask for?

…no? OK, AND that he plays Dreamer, The Beautiful Ones, Laydown, Controversy, Beggin' Blues Woman and The Question of U! biggrin

Co-sign.

It is a nice gesture of him to pay respect and homage to his old school heroes but...do they really benefit in any form from that? Do they sell more CDs because of Prince covering them? And in case of those who are dead, do their families benefit from it? Does Prince pay any fees for doing cover tunes? Do these artists even WANT to be covered by Prince and Shelby? lol

It was nice when he used to do it occasionally during some of the aftershows in the 80s and 90s, and back then he would change the tunes he´d cover but these days it´s a whole different story. Sometimes Shelby and the coverversions become way too dominant, and yes, just like you, I go to a Prince concert to see and hear Prince and his music, not Shelby, not a bunch of covers.

It´s nice of him to educate people about those old school artists but the fact is that these days, with the younger generation knowing very little about Prince and with his strict anti-Youtube policies, he really should focus about educating people about HIS OWN back catalogue.

He´s written so many great songs that people hardly even know.

I´d rather see a shorter, tighter show with more Prince content than a 3 or 4 hour show with Shelby and the band doing cover versions or Shelby butchering trademark Prince songs.

I like Shelby but I think Prince´s shows would be better without her. She´s too dominant and I never really liked those eras where Prince had dominant singers that would get a huge spot on his stage.

Bonnie Boyer was different, her voice was used in moderation and she added a lot to the Sign of the Times and Lovesexy tours. May she rest in peace.

I think we give Prince too much credit in the "Prince always knows best" department.

The man is eradicating his live reputation now just like he effectively destroyed his reputation as an innovative recording artist/record maker.

It has been said many times by many people whom have worked closely with him...Prince is in bereft need of an editor, or at least someone he can bounce ideas off of.

He has pretty much played these same songs in roughly the same order for many years now.

I think he is phoning it in.

Who told him having Shelby be an integral part of the show was a good idea?

Who told him spot-lighting the background singers too much was a good idea?

Who told him that doing a bunch of cover songs was a good idea?

Who told him that Andy Allo's rap on ExtraLoveable was a good idea?

ETC...ETC...ETC...

The answer to these questions would be,nobody.

Prince makes these decisions, soley.

He is the one who thinks this stuff is cool.

Face it.

Prince has become an oldies act.
