There's so much wrong here you're comparing the wrong band members to the wrong band members. lol

1. Any one of those band members could get up and play a U2 song. ANY ONE of them, Andy included. She wouldn't be playing the Edge's part, she'd be playing rhythm or Bono's (chuckle) parts. And she could definitely sing with Bono. Think Bono could pull off playing a Prince song? Err..

2. Prince would be playing the Edge parts, and he would have to seriously play down to do so. And hell yes, he'd be able to manage the effects pedal if he was given a second or two. Or maybe you missed his own respectable bank of switches and effects he has on stage...some of them are similar to Edge's. Edge also has a tech who can basically do everything he does, and then some. Like I said there is alot more going on than you clearly realize. Edge, much as I love him, is not getting up and going head to head with Prince on guitar. There's just no way in a million years.

3. As for Ida replacing Adam Clayton..surely you jest. Do you think Adam could just waltz up and play Purple Rain (let's pretend it's a simple one on bass for a sec). Flip the coin - are you seriously telling us that Ida couldn't get up and play With Or Without You or One? Seriously? Please tell me you aren't serious. lol Noone who has ever played a bass guitar would agree with you, period. It's sortof the cruel running joke about U2's music, one that I don't agree with, per se, but let's face it, Adam's parts are about as simple as they come. I don't care, their songs are more "sum of the parts make up the whole" type deal than individual virtuosos..

Look..this whole thing has turned into a U2 vs Prince thing, and guess what? I wouldn't in a million years say that Prince's show was better than maybe even ANY U2 show I've ever seen. It's a different kind of show, and I think each shines and moves me on it's own merits.

But on Saturday, at Prince, I had a hell of a good time and so did many of the people around me. When we were walking back to our cars noone had a complaint.

Get away from music for a sec: sports. Many people say that hockey is a "better" sport than basketball and that hockey players are more true athletes than basketball players. I grew up playing hockey and thinking the same thing. But let's not fool ourselves, basketball players are in their own right incredible athletes also and many hockey players I know have not been able to run a court for long periods like basketball players I know. An NBA game is a total package show like no other, to the point where the NHL has in the last 10 years started incorporating many of the same aspects to up the ante show-wise for the audience.

I call U2 the hockey, and Prince the basketball. Both are amazing.

worship

Nice story. I agree with you though. Sometimes people are comparing artists that shouldn't be compared imo. U2 and Prince are different artists and have different shows. I love them both and they are both great.

To be fair tho, I called the whiners and bitchers out, so I guess deserve any shots back. It's ok, I can take 'em. While opinions are certainly subjective, my knowledge of concert production and the points I'm talking to about the musicianship of the artists we're talking about are pretty much rock solid, so the few who are trying to take me on are making me smile more than anything. No offense being taken in the least.

Let's see...U2 made close to 1.6 billion touring from 2001-2011. Prince made maybe 400 million. So U2 is the NFL, and Prince is Arena Football. There are enough people on this site complaining about Shelby, and the weak state of the band, to know that something is wrong... and the fact that Andy Allo is basically some woman Prince met a truck stop, and is now his lead guitar player after less than 2 years of even knowing how to play the instrument.

U2 kept their fans waiting for more, by selectively releasing albums every 2-5 years. Prince over-saturated the market with too much product, and ruined his own career. Despite his own self-sabotage, he still makes music nobody in the history of the pop music world can. It is sad that few give him the credit for his great studio music, but instead give him all this cred for live performances that pale in comparison to his studio work.

I can't think of another artist with so many complaints from die-hard fans. The only complaints I hear with other artists is the set list...those complaints are par for the course for any fan of any artist.

If you think the Welcome 2 Shelby Tour is on the level of the Controversy, SOTT, Parade, ONA, or Musicology tour, than you have to be a Prince Kool Aid Drinker.

He is the best there is, and has been going half speed since the 2006 shows. He puts out an album as brilliant as Lotus Flow3r, and then flat out ignores it, sporadically playing Dreamer, and a few other songs...while he plays hollow cover songs. Sad, but that is the way it is.

Well given that you've already demonstrated a pretty weak grasp on "facts" concerning music, this should be read with a huge helping of salt. Also...fyi...Andy is not Prince's "lead guitar player". Prince is Prince's lead guitar player. Period. She plays some rhythm. You really don't get it, do you?

You might want to get thoroughly immersed in any other band's fan culture. Your hair will curl reading the ridiculous complaints of losers and other social misfits on the internet with way too much time on their hands..

Sad, but that is the way it is.

I hope you don't mind that I copied that over from the U2 forum. Wait - did you write that there too? Pretty similar sentiment stated about a million times over there. Get the point?

i have never seen miko, dez, levi, mike scott dance around the stage with their guitar on the back of them more than andy does. i've never seen such a talented guitarist like how andy is being thrust upon his fans like shes' the 2nd coming of christ when as it's been pointed out that she's just a rythym guitarist.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I don't get this comment at all. She's a member of his band, for now. Of course he's gonna big her up on stage, but I didn't find it excessive at all. Nothing to the tune of "being thrust upon fans like she's the 2nd coming of christ"! Exaggerate much?

Complaints that there's a hot rhythm guitarist who sings backups and does a cover of her own, complaints that the other backup singers do too much, complaints about this complaints about that...maybe people would be happier if it was just Prince and his guitar up there? Turn off all the lights and only shine a spotlight on him?

Not what a band is all about. Everyone gets their little moment. If you want Prince solo doing rare cuts and deep tracks, go see Prince solo at a club. Prince is currently touring arenas with the band he's chosen.

Andy is hot.

And cool.

And she can sing pretty good and has a natural enigmatic stage presence.

I like Andy.

Not that I know her.

I like what I've seen from Andy so far. In a inpersonal way.

What about meditating some on your need to convince people you don't even know? Random people that sign up on a website and you feel the desire to make them realize that you know better than them. And they should realize that. And when they don't think or feel the way you decided is the right way, you will ramble on about it.

It is just opinions and reviews of how somebody personally experienced it.

I don's see how it can be defended rationally that a post legits an egomaniacal discussion about how right your individual personal experience is compared to someone elses?

Actually, I mean this in a more general way. It's not even aimed at you.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Complaints about everything! Even if Prince did a tour on his own, without any background singers and in small clubs, there would still be people complaining!

Bravo to everything you are saying, acrobat70! Prince has chosen to do arena shows for now, playing the hits that most people want to hear - if some don't like that, they just should not go and quit complaining about it all the time! Or even worse - not go there anyway and still complain! It's ridiculous! They don't have to like what Prince is doing right now, but why go on and on about it?

I had a period of time, too, where I did not care much about what Prince was doing and that's why I missed all the Prince online years, like the NPGMC and whatever else he did. I did not care enough to check out those websites, and I would have never gone to any of the forums to complain about Prince. So why do the guys who don't like him these days keep coming here, only to put him down for everything he does?? It's beyond me, really!

okay with this band from when i saw him, no one really got a solo spot from the band, not talking about the background singers i am talking about the band. if one was 2 compare his previous tours and bands, prince LOVED 2 give his band a spot in the sun. and we the fans knew every member of the band. with this band, it seems like they are only there just 2 go with the flow, with the exception of th brilliant drummer John blackwell. Ida hardly gets 2 shine and it's sad when u look at her clips online, she's funky. rhonda got much shine and deservidly so cause she learned to thump unlike her first go around with the npg.

so let's look at andy..from what i see and have heard, she's not a mind blowing singer, doesn't do solos ..yet because of the speculation that her and prince are dating ..it's now all about andy .."scratching my head on that" poor mr hayes isn't even on the main stage with the rest of his bandmates and has been with prince the longest is like a after thought now in the scheme of this current band. when larry was "thrust" upon his fans, well shit larry can back it up with his playing. maceo can do it based on his playing. i'm not hating on andy i'm just trying 2 understand ..why?

I can say that Morris did receive a very brief solo spotlight in Halifax. I'm afraid I can not recall which song it was but Prince called out for him to solo and the spotlight focused on him. Prior to that I was not even aware Morris was there as he was so isolated from the main stage.

I do agree that it would be nice to see Ida receive a bit more attention. I can't be 100% certain she may have strayed from inside the circle briefly but my recollection is that she was pretty much inside the circle all night. Neither John nor Cassandra received any kind of featured spot either and as I said Morris' was very brief (maybe 10-15 seconds).

Maceo did have many opportunities to shine. He was not on stage for every song (I'm guessing maybe 1/4 of them) but he had several solos.

As far as Andy goes I don't have strong feelings about her one way or the other. Mayte did not really contribute anything musically to shows but Prince wanted her there and, at least for me, she did not mess up the music. I see Andy much the same. I will say that it is odd that she is being passed off as a guitarist. During "Get Wild" when Prince was on the bass Ida was playing guitar. If Andy is his guitarist shouldn't she be capable of handling the rhythm parts on her own? I took that as a sign that she really has no business pretending to be a guitarist, particularly on that level. I think she would catch less heat if she was just up there as a dancer and background singer. I could be mistaken but I think that this is the first time that Prince has ever had a bandmember that was clearly not in the same league as the rest of the band.

It's even not the fact whether she can play the guitar or not - is the question right now! Why most people are pissed off right now is, she's given so much attention on stage by Prince that she doesn't deserve. I guess everybody is irritated, and she fucks up the overall edge of the music, but right now Prince doesn't care about this. He doesn't care about anything at this stage, so I stopped caring about it too.

It's boring as it is now, and it only creates controversy and keeps people talkin, he has no good music currently, so this is what he does now. It's pretty self explanatory!

Argue about Andy??? lol wow, that's really important in my life. So far reviews from the concert experiences have been positive, so regardless of what Orgers here feel about her, I think people going to his concerts don't really care. that was my point. they seem to be enjoying themselves. I may not care about Andy Allo but if Prince came to my town again, I will definitely buy a ticket. I'm not going to miss out on a good night because of no Andy. I will enjoy myself like I did the last three Welcome 2 America concerts I went to.

Yes,people going to his concert are regulars not fans as such, he's playing the hits, nobody is gonna worry about Andy, cause those are not the ones who will buy her record anyway. As u can see we are more worried about the musical output by Prince, than any pussy he fucks after the gigs! She's no different than Carmen Electra or any other talentless chick he had in the past. She can't play the guitar and adds nothing to the band, but some like her voice, that's fair enough!

Prince I will always miss and love U.

so let's look at andy..from what i see and have heard, she's not a mind blowing singer, doesn't do solos ..yet because of the speculation that her and prince are dating ..it's now all about andy .."scratching my head on that" poor mr hayes isn't even on the main stage with the rest of his bandmates and has been with prince the longest is like a after thought now in the scheme of this current band. when larry was "thrust" upon his fans, well shit larry can back it up with his playing. maceo can do it based on his playing. i'm not hating on andy i'm just trying 2 understand ..why?

I could be mistaken but I think that this is the first time that Prince has ever had a bandmember that was clearly not in the same league as the rest of the band.

very good assetment ..as 4 mayte at least she was a dancer and had a role similar to what cat had.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I may not care about Andy Allo but if Prince came to my town again, I will definitely buy a ticket. I'm not going to miss out on a good night because of no Andy. I will enjoy myself like I did the last three Welcome 2 America concerts I went to.

Funny that his prior girlfriends got a lot of hate from the female orgers.

Now the female orgers seem to dig Andy.

However, the male orgers seem to have a lot of anger about her being on stage wink

Or, wait, didn't I get the org statistics right?

And we all hate Andy Allo?

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I like her! Her voice is incredible, she's gorgeous, and her guitar skills idk I've never seen her play so I can't complain. But my favorite is and always will be the beautiful Mayte Garcia biggrin

u2brothr

My goodness. This is my first post ever on this board....I've been waiting to post at this show was my 1st PRINCE show ever.

Yes. Prince has been on my bucketlist. I've slept on seeing him before, and I'm glad I finally got this opportunity.

I can't help but notice some of the comments in this thread. I am a HUGE U2 fan. You can go to youtube and put u2brothr in the search engine to know what I'm talking about. I'm massive when it comes to U2....and I've seen them 31 times myself. Comparing U2 to Prince is downright silly. However, I do know Bono has made very positive comments about Prince upon meeting him at an award show once. I believe he said that Prince is the modern day "Duke Ellington". I won't bother to engage the trolls on this site to compare apples and oranges. If you love music, you love music. PERIOD.

I should add that I am also a musician as well.

Regardless, I went to this show with my wife and my friends and I was impressed by Prince's vibe, the atmosphere, the stage set up, the muscianship, EVERYTHING! It was an incredible show. I am jealous of those that went on the Friday night. Those folks can play. Those women can SING! The drummer is a futhermucker. Wow. Everything so tite.

Speaking of Friday night, I have friends who I play with in a band who went to the show. They are more "rock" fans, but decided to see Prince because he was also on their bucketlist. I had a ticket for the Friday nite, but didn't go. I knew I was going Saturday.

The text I received says it all. "We have no business picking up our instruments after what I've witnessed at this show."

I loved every moment of it. I loved how the entire crowd was dancing. I loved how it was such a party atmosphere.

I spilled my drink when he said, "YOU BETTER CALL THE BABYSITTER, I GOTS TOO MANY HITS".

And truth be told.....despite missing Maceo Parker, Prince in now on my top guitar players of all time.

So yes. I popped my cherry under the moon at this concert.......and I was so impressed.

I WENT TO LONDON ONTARIO to see the show again.

I honestly could feel the talent ooze out of him from song to song.

I'm blessed to witness such a legend. Thank you my man.

I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD A TAMBOURINE. I didn't realize they were made by Tama until afterwards.
