Honesty is a great trait and typically doesn't render one 'unlikeable.' Its his lack of tact and humility

I wanted to ask him which songs. But didn't think to ask. The single "I Want You" was newly out then. Which I told him he did an excellent job on. He was very humble about it.Yet pissed at the same time about the ommision. You may be right about those tracks you listed.

so did you know kanye personally or did you just meet him as a total stranger, congratulate him on his work and he randomly decided to vent to you about being unhappy?

Wouldn't have been my choice for the next single (if at all) but that's a nice edit. Makes me like the song more

This article is for all of the folks who keep saying Janet doesn't write her own music. Jimmy set the record straight.

Yep. Jimmy said it was a red flag when Janet asked Terry to write the lyrics too... that means they compose the tracks and she writes lyrics.

I was so happy for Janet when I saw this. It was great to see her get all that love from the crowd. She seems so much happier this era.

Me too!

Strangely, I fucking love Damita Jo. lol

ALL NITE and ISLAND LIFE are two of her best ever tracks, and DJ has some awesome unreleased cuts and b-sides.

Cinny said: That reminds me of when I first met Kanye. I discussed with him his work with Janet on "Damita Jo". He was very pissed but honest that he did a lot more work on that album. But didnt get credit for it. He told me new producers rarely get credit. Because of being unknown. I GUESS THATS WHERE GHOST WRITING COMES FROM.

He was credited for "Strawberry Bounce" "My Baby" and "I Want You". I would not be surprised if it is Kanye's fingerprints on "Island Life"

Island Life was produced by Cathy Dennis, who was famous for her '90s hits with D-Mob ("Touch Me All Night Long" and "Just Another Dream").

Makes sense. She was making worldwide smashes for Kylie ("Can't Get You Out Of My Head") and Britney ("Toxic") around then. "Island Life" is phenomenal.

I have never heard the rumor that Janet doesn't write her own music. However, its a collaborative effort between her and Jimmy and Terry. She doesn't write all the lyrics by herself besides one or two songs I can name off the top of my head Black Cat and Whoops Now. Thats not to say she can't, but its typically a team effort.

She writes a lot more than probably she even gives herself credit for. She wrote the lyrics to 'That's The Way Love Goes' over a Christmas break after Jimmy and Terry supplied the music, and 'After You Fall' from the new album was pretty much created the same way, with Jimmy playing her the track and her going off and writing the lyrics.

I personally would argue the opposite and this is no shade towards her because I think Black Cat is one of her best songs that she so happen to write herself. However, I have always mostly viewed her as lyrist and someone who contributes to lyrics and ideas. She is very good at what she does and is very creative. However, she doesn't really write a lot of her songs by herself for me to call her a songwriter and that is probably why a lot don't view her as a songwriter but I have never heard anyone say she doesnt contribute to ideas, lyrics, etc . I often hear Janet giving credit to other people that has helped her throughout her career like Rene and so forth that aren't credited on her past songs that helped with lyrics.

black cat was a song she wrote completely by herself without jimmy or terry, but janet usually writes all of her lyrics, thats why jimmy calls her one of his favorite lyricist. its pretty obvious to me, her lyrics are nothing like jimmy and terry's. when jimmy and terry does the tracks thats also part of the songwriting, thats why the 3 of them are credited as co-writers. there are many songs that jimmy said he played the track for janet and she came back with the lyrics. rene has credit on the VR album, who are these other people that worked with her and didnt get credit? even on the new album there are new producers who people never heard of that has credit.

I know Lol thats why I mentioned it. That and Whoops Now are the only songs she has written. There are not too many songs she has written by herself.

But my point is for the most part her writing in her songs is always a collaborative team effort with her producers or other songwriters. Its not a bad thing because she is still involved with her music but I don't think that I would necessarily call her a songwriter when she doesn't write most of her songs by herself and its hard to say what she actually contributes on all those songs. She is definitly an artist though and lyrist. I've heard there are songs on the VR Rene helped write that he is not credited for. Didn't she even say this in an interview? I can't remember which one.

This is very good news! I've been wondering when they were going to release new videos. That's been the only other element to her package that hasn't been fleshed out yet. "No Sleeep" feels like ages ago already. "BIU" is begging for a dope dance video. Must be nice being your own boss. You can shoot and release videos on your own timetable. I'm pretty sure their 3 year plan included video shoots. Looking forward to it!
