If its a no brainer why did you say that when that was not even what I was referring too? I was referring to her relationship with him as an adult not when they were little which is why I made that comment.

[Edited 10/11/15 19:53pm]

the reason this convo started was because somebody commented about the obvious mj influence on this album and said they are not surprised since they were so close, then you had to correct them by pointing out they were not super close as ADULTS, which wasnt necessary because it had nothing to do with them as adults. his influence comes from when she was a child not when she was an adult.

YOU came to that realization because that is what YOU took from what was said...... but Scrop did not clarify whether he was referring closeness as children or adults. Since it is common knowledge they were close as kids, I simply clarified that they were not close as adults and IMO it IS necessary to say that since it is often presented they were close as adults when they were not and that is not how this conversation got started. I disagreed with the notion that Janet influenced Dangeorus and the idea that since they are siblings every album is a direct influence from the other sibling. There is more to what I said besides the lack of closeness they had as adults.

What's your point?

I spose folks are glad to have her back to her best after nearly a decade of below-par albums.

Don't even bother with him, he likes to instigate arguments and antagonize mj fans. People are happy Janet is back,

Yeah. As adults they were probably close in theory, in their memories of growing up, but not in actual reality. You're not close, when you go 2 years without seeing each other.

Agree and Michael and Janet have consistently said this over the years in multiple interviews. They said they were not close as adults but always wish to be closer.

I don't understand, why she didn't do Black eagle on tour, especially since a black eagle is a prominent motive in the graphics and even on her tour dress. I hope it will be added soon.

BACK TO THE TOPIC!!!

BMG’S COHEN DETAILS THE JANET UNBREAKABLE PLAN

Janet Jackson has been a global superstar for more than three decades, and her return to the spotlight has been met with passionate enthusiasm—a sentiment not typically reserved for most upper-demo divas. With a hit tour in progress and a #1 song at radio before the album even dropped, BMG EVP Recorded Music Jon Cohen talks to HITS about his company’s partnership with Janet’s Rhythm Nation around the release of Unbreakable, her first studio album in seven years.

How did this partnership happen? Who signed it, and how did the story begin?
About a year and a half ago, Zach Katz, our Chief Creative Officer, met with several producers who have worked with Janet and told them about the new way BMG was doing business. Janet was intrigued by the model and she was intrigued by Zach’s creative force, so she came in and met with the executives and Hartwig. She really liked the vibe; she felt that this could be a home for Rhythm Nation and that we could do a really good job for her.

This Janet album has a more mature vibe, and she’s back with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who are the original architects of her sound. What did she want to accomplish with this release?
I think Janet’s goal—and again, she’s a mega-superstar—was to make uncompromising music, to do so in 2015 and put out what is just an incredible body of work and not be so focused on, “Hey, you’ve got to be at Pop radio immediately. You have to be here. You have to be there.” Of course, everyone at BMG wants to be #1 and is always striving for that, but what she really wanted was a team that wasn’t committed to something for weeks one, two and three; She wanted a team for the next 18 months to two and three years. And we have a three-year plan with Janet. It’s not just about this record, and the plan goes well beyond music. Bertelsmann is a hugely diversified company, from books to media, and we’ve been talking since the get-go about multiple initiatives with Team Janet. So she wanted someone who was not going to look at this in the short-term, but really look at what Janet Jackson is in 2015, 2016, 2017, and how she wants to express herself. And she wanted a company with a broad enough canvas to paint that picture.

Part of that, I would imagine, is the tour, which is doing great. Can you talk a little about that?
The touring is all Janet; we do the recorded music with her, but we’re wholly vested in how well it does. Live Nation and WMEhave been absolutely blown away. They’re on their third leg already, and sales into next May and June of next year are already staggering.

You’ve also developed a notable radio story with the success of “No Sleeep.”
It’s her first single, and it’s been at #1 for six weeks and counting at Urban AC, which is a record for her. It’s the longest-running single in her career since 1998. “No Sleeep” is a brilliant song, a great collaboration with J. Cole, and that it’s a #1 success is proof that we’ve worked it to the right format.

And her Missy Elliott collaboration is your next single, right?
She has “Burn It Up” coming with Missy Elliot, an amazing club burner and all-around great song. We’ll do the same thing—surround it at radio where it’s suitable. We’ll also work “Unbreakable” back to Urban AC and anticipate that’ll be at the top, so radio is obviously one component. Janet has been a megastar and has more #1s than I can count; radio is obviously still a component, but in 2015 it’s not all about that, so the three-year plan is about multimedia, different specials, initiatives and projects, none of which I can talk about yet.

Are there any special things coming up that you can discuss?
Janet turns 49 this year, meaning she has a milestone birthday next year, so there’s a big story to tell. I think there will be other things surrounding the tour itself, and the three-year-plus Janet plan will be all about Unbreakable, but I think it will also blossom into other things.

Great idea. I'd love to see DAMMN BABY live too. That song is so smooth that it doesn't even really need choreography.

Most likely her #1 on the charts stature will be short-lived unless there is a major sales spike soon. With nearly 80% of sales data for next week, the album has slid to the #12 spot. The project posted disappointing sales the first wee when it was #1.

A #1 is a #1. Whether it was for 1 week or 2 weeks. Janet has done something very few of her peers could do in this climate. There is a 3 year plan in motion for this album. With Janet being on tour for the next two years. Her album will continue to sell.

and how many albums remain #1 for a 2nd week besides drake or one of the other hand full of contemporary artists who still sell decent numbers, how was her sales disappointing, who was predicting janet to move big numbers? compared to her actual peers she did around the same numbers as madonna, and far outsold mariah and prince.

Exactly!!
That's why news of her #1 was so widely reported. They were not expecting those numbers for Janet.

Ok I know its a too short bonus track that doesnt fit the album thematically, but Love U 4 Life is stellar!!! It's catapulted itself into my top 5 for her. Shame it might go largely unheard. Bonus tracks aren't supposed to be this good!

Agree.! I honestly did not think her album would go to number one, what she has accomplished is definitly impressive considering she has been rather reclusive these last couple of years.

yeah its pretty interesting to hear people online act like the sales are somehow disappointing but read the articles from industry insiders and they are praising BMG like this is major. i think alot of people are forgetting this is a independant release with no traditional promo, they are also overlooking how 'no sleeep' has been #1 onthat r&b ac chart like 9 weeks. her being on tour through late next year and the word of mouth on how good the album is along with the critics reviews should give it longevity. im glad BMG and janet are dedicated to this project and wont abandon it. i heard fans from the show lastnight were yelling for her to do the new songs over her classics, that speaks alot about the album.

I hate how people act brand new thinking a veteran artist is going to get massive pop radio airplay.

She can put out the greatest pop single of the year and radio ain't touching it.

Hell Beyonce ain't even getting the airplay she used to.

That's what I was trying to explain to someone else on another site. You've got Rihanna out here struggling to get a hit. And she one of the biggest Star out right now. At least Janet has a #1 album and a #1 R&B adult single. It's rare for artist like her to have that today.

Will we finally get a ‘No Sleeep’ or ‘BURNITUP!‘ peformance? Hard to say, since Janet will be in Chicago with her Unbreakable World Tour. The 2015 Soul Train Awards happens in Las Vegas onNovember 06 and will be broadcasted by BET on november 29th.

I didn't know she had the most Soul Train Awards of any artist. She will win this one. It would be nice if she actually showed up, because they could definitely use the star power. But she has a show that night. So most likely not.

You can say that again Rihanna held up her album all year now. Beyonce toured extensively and only had Drunk In Love to make it through. That last album was an expensive make up with all those videos etc.

I'm luvin' the new album, I'm so surprised at the quality of production, lyrics and the vocals. It's uh-may-zing really. Wish the tour had more going on with costumes and other stuff, but I am happy with the album. I would like videos for Night and The Great Forever. If she makes anymore videos or does a bit of promotion here and there, maybe it will be a slow burner album that will go back and forth in the charts. She got to number 11 in the UK which is a shock considering her last albums got to number 63. When the tour starts in Europe maybe there'll be new videos or changes to the tour and some interviews.

I'm not saying any of the songs are bad, but the 2nd half definitely slowed down for too long.
I'd prefer to be left wanting more than wondering 'how much longer?'
My opinion is that some editing could have taken this from being a very good album to being great album.

No. It's good as it is. The threesome of Promise/Lesson learned/Black Eagle is perfection. And it ends on a high note with Gon b alright.
