Nas became a legend the day Illmatic was released.

I kinda feel that legendary status can be attained as soon as you make a work of art that no contemporary can come close to, or shapes the sound of music after its release. Obviously, this happened with Voodoo.

Sorta like Amy Winehouse as soon as Back To Black was released.

Science.

It's all relative. Some artists need to release scores of records to become legendary. Others need only a few, and still others, only one.

Which is why I still say, D'Angelo may not be an icon, but he is (or is becoming) a legend.
