He's not a legend. Yet.

Legend=widespread cultural influence. Not just music, but pop culture too. People really WANT D'Angelo to be a legend, they believe he has it in him...I believe he has it in him too but its his journey through life, the demand of expectation can crush people sometimes....

IF he is not a legend now, he def will be considered one in the future! He changed the game and has inspired so many funk/soul heads around the world.

I don't think he wants to be a legend...

Being a legend restricts movement and possiblilites.

Exactly. Ask Prince.

Over on the main forum, they're comparing D'Angelo to Prince ... legendary.

D'Angelo is a legend. A lot of Prince fans just deny it. It makes no sense. His status takes nothing away from Prince.

Just because the main forum is comparing the two don't mean it is to be done. As far as I know,

the main forum is dotted with retards. Thou shall not compareth the two saith Ducciano.

But I agree; he's a legend. After listening to Black Messiah, I say give it to him. He's going down

as "seminal."

I would encourage anyone inclined to look into the etymology for the word "seminal." So fucken

cool, and appropriate!

They need to make a D'Angelo sticky because there shouldn't be more than one topic about him being active. The other thread regarding the new album is more than enough.

The Slate review of Black Messiah is right on. You people just can't recognize the masterpiece right in front of your faces.

Although I don't think he is a legend "now." I think he has what it takes musically to possibly be considered one down the line. He has two classics under his belt One of which that innovated the Neo Soul movement in the mid 90's. His new album will probably be a classic as well, its BRILLIANT! I am soooo proud of him. Everyone doubted him for years but he shitted on everybody. I think it is important to appreciate real talent while we still have it on earth and D is the REAL!

Well, we are about to find out. Sony Music is promoting the shit out of that thing. It is all over Youtube, even heard a Cantonese promo on the ferry from Hong Kong this morning. If this does not put him over, he will never get there.

Prince is a legend. Sly is a legend. D'Angelo is not. He's wasting his best years being a junkie. He could be a legend if he wanted it but that's highly unlikely. Another 10 - 15 years will go by before he releases another album. In some recent pictures D'Angelo looks stoned then he has the nerve to criticize Sly for being stoned on TV shows. I just hope he has enough friends and family around to intervene
