Tracklist BAD 25th anniversary special edition unveiled

Published on Tuesday, 07 August 2012 12:47

Epic/Legacy Recordings in collaboration with the Estate of Michael Jackson today announced the highly anticipated track listing for the September 18th release of Michael Jackson BAD25 that celebrates the legendary album and record breaking BAD tour. Featured in the deluxe package, are three CDs, two collectible booklets, and the first ever authorized DVD release of a concert from the record breaking BAD World Tour – the July 16, 1988 sold out Wembley Stadium show in London.

Filled with previously re-mastered versions of iconic hits and un-released recordings from the King Of Pop, the BAD25 anniversary deluxe edition CDs and DVD will include the following: CD one features re-mastered versions of Michael's biggest hits on the original BAD album, including, "Smooth Criminal," "Man In The Mirror," “Bad,” “Another Part of Me,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” and "Dirty Diana" arranged in the same sequence as they appeared on the original album released 25 years ago. “Leave Me Alone” was added to the album as a bonus track following its initial release and has been included on the disc.

CD two offers fans a rare listen to thirteen additional tracks, 6 of which are previously unreleased demo recordings created at Michael’s personal studio built at his then-home on Hayvenhurst Avenue in Encino, California. Also included are all three bonus tracks from the 2001 expanded edition of BAD, the previously un-released French version of Michael performing the classic, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” a high power version of “Speed Demon” remixed by Nero and the brand new remix of “Bad” worked on as an electrifying collaboration between Pitbull and Dutch DJ Afrojack. Recordings included in this package reflect the songs and spirit of Michael Jackson’s artistry during BAD’s recording sessions and have been selected to show the different stages of how Michael’s songwriting and recording genius took shape. Some tracks are so complete that any other artist but Michael Jackson – who worked tirelessly to make sure his songs reflected his vision – might consider them finished tracks. Others are less complete but offer insight into Michael’s creative process in its various stages. Included is the demo, “Al Capone,” an early incarnation of what ultimately became “Smooth Criminal,” “Don’t Be Messin’ Around,” an example of a more complete demo, and a song initially titled, “Song Groove.” That song later became known as “Abortion Papers” which according to Michael’s own records, he spent considerable time in weighing how best to thoughtfully address something that was, and remains, a very personal and sensitive issue.

A true highlight of the package is CD three and the DVD – the never seen before live concert on DVD and its accompanying music CD of Michael’s legendary July 16, 1988 concert at Wembley Stadium. The concert is not a compilation of performances, but rather one complete show, exactly as Michael performed it for Prince Charles, Princess Diana and the 72,000 fans who were in the audience for that night’s sold out show. This show was one of the seven record-breaking nights played at the venue attended by more than half a million people – three times that many people tried to purchase tickets. The DVD was sourced from Michael Jackson’s personal VHS copy of the performance as shown on the JumboTrons during the concert. This footage was only recently unearthed and is the only known copy of the show to exist. The visuals have now been restored and the audio quality enhanced so that fans can share in the excitement of that famous night in 5.1 surround sound taken from the original multitrack recordings made that night. In addition to the complete Wembley Show, the DVD will also contain “The Way You Make Me Feel” from Michael’s July 15th performance at Wembley Stadium. This is the only song not performed on July 16th due to the late start of that night’s show. Also included are the thrilling early performances of “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” and “Bad” from the Yokohama Stadium performance in September of 1987 during the first leg of the BAD World Tour.

The only reason I'm buying this is because I wanna hear Al Capone and have the concert... The rest of it seems so half assed. Such a blown opportunity in terms of remix material. And we all know the Pitbul bad remix is gonna be all dubsteped and horrible mad Not to mention, thats such a wasted opportunity in terms of guest apperances... Wasn't Prince supposed to originally duet the song with him?! I mean HELLO SONY! Prince just got off a fricken world tour! That's like free promotion for the song if you could convince him to duet the song with Michael Jackson! I mean, how cool would it be for Prince to kinda end the Prince MJ Feud that all the fans have been having since who knows how long, by just appearing on Bad 25. That would be so epic! But nah, he either couldn't be convinced to do it (still because of that first line which he would probably wanna change to be about Jehovah or something) or because Sony would much rather have a big name like Pitbull so that the younger audience will wanna buy the album... Except they're forgetting one thing... It's Michael fricking Jackson we're talking about! Like seriously, who doesn't know who he is?!?! Eh, Pitbull on Bad 25. So stupid.

No Buffalo Bill. No Groove of Midnight. No Tomboy. No What You Do To Me. No Hot Fever.

Another disappointment. Way to go Estate.

Maybe if I live until 2050, I'll get to hear it all.

By the time the Estate releases everything in the vaults, the generation that grew up as Michael Jackson fans will be dead. Serious. It's bull crap that they deliberately hold stuff back.

Seeing as I'm only 17 now, in 75 years I MIGHT get to hear it all when the Estate Releases... MICHAEL JACKSON: BAD CENTURY EDITION! Now with the Demo's that "recently unearthed"! Also, be sure to go to the Bad Century Tour with Holo Michael Jackson!

For real.

Such a shame. No Men in Black either. i've got Michaels' vocal session with Seth Riggs, 16 minutes of Mike just doing scales down the phone. I'd have shit like that officially released and you know what? it'd sell, because it's bloody interesting and enlightening. But Sony have no clue at all.

The info was already released (somewhat) months ago so I don't get the sudden shock. This is kinda what is to expect of these anniversary re-releases. Least be happy about the DVD like I am.

i know what your saying, i am happy about what we are getting, and im really glad they are including twymmf as a bonus.. but as far as new songs, we already have streetwalker and fly away, and who is really going to listen to pitbull remixes? they could have done with out those 3 and added Buffalo Bill,Tomboy, and Groove of Midnight.

Judging from what I heard, Groove of Midnight was never done. No telling with Buffalo Bill or Tomboy though. Crack Kills was basically just simply an "idea" by Mike and Run DMC.

i dont know where you heard that about Groove of Midnight... to my knowledge its recorded, and Buffalo Bill was planned to be on the Victory album.. so we know thats recorded.. most of ALL these songs are recorded, they just arent "finished" in Michaels eyes. but like i have said thousands of times, an "unfinished" Michael Jackson song, is a masterpiece for other artist..

I am very excited about Bad 25, and I think 6 new songs is being very generous. I seriously can't believe people are complaining because they didn't get 20 outtakes eek (or however many they expected). When has a reissue ever added that many new songs? confuse 6 is a lot.

I'm also happy they included the bonus tracks from the 2001 rerelease. It may be a waste to hardcore fans, but with this new reissue, the 2001 reissue is going to go out of print, and "Streetwalker" and "Fly Away" would've been lost forever to the general public. Now there's no need to own multiple versions of the same album just because they each have different bonus tracks. I never understood rereleases of albums that chose not to include all of the previously released non-album tracks and outtakes from that era.

I have no idea who Pitbull is. I don't like the idea of new remixes, especially if they're going to be hip-hop remixes, but it was to be expected. Thankfully there's only 3 of them.. I was expecting more.

I would've rather had the original 12" versions than new remixes.

Pitbull remix - I bet it will suck but I will give it a chance.

Amount of outtakes - Not surprised but not outraged either. At least there are not Cascio tracks and it is more out-takes than Thriller 25 had.

At least we are getting a DVD of Bad, and a live Bad tour album. As a kid I would have paid thousands for those things alone. Still super excited.

Hope it sells well.

Maybe Bad 50 will have the other tracks lol
