Open Letter in Support of Michael Jackson’s Estate

Michael Jackson’s fan base is aware of derogatory statements made by certain members of the Jackson family, against the executors of his Estate. We are shocked and saddened that propaganda, rather than seeking avenues to address their concerns legally, have been used to gain sympathy. While we most certainly support the beneficiaries of Jackson’s Estate, Katherine Jackson and Michael’s children, we equally support the executors, Mr. John Branca and Mr. John McClain.

Jackson’s fans understand that the task both Branca and McClain took on when Michael died was staggering. Weighted in nearly $400 million in debt, with an overwhelming amount of pending lawsuits, the Executors took the reins of the Estate and went to work.

Posthumously, the Executors have ensured the highest grossing music documentary of all time, This Is It, two successful albums, the number one tour in the world, Cirque du Soleil’s IMMORTAL, sold millions of Michael Jackson The Experience video games, and are planning a huge release for the 25th anniversary of Jackson’s legendary Bad album. Although every fan does not agree with all decisions the Estate has made, we agree that overall, the Estate has done well in preserving Michael’s legacy. In addition, we agree with the Estate, that “false and defamatory accusations grounded in stale Internet conspiracy” do nothing to promote the positive ethic Michael Jackson espoused while alive.

In three years, Jackson’s Estate is thriving, nearly debt free and Michael Jackson’s music is still at the forefront of the music industry. We wholeheartedly support Michael Jackson’s final wishes; that he trusted both John Branca and John McClain to continue his message through his music. The Michael Jackson fan base thanks the Executors for continuing to do just that, with grace and dignity.

Sincerely,

falloff falloff You MJ fans sure do think highly of yourselves; like you have any jurisdiciton over anything related to MJ's estate. Dead. falloff

Once again, I repeat, you couldn't possibly know or have even an idea of what is going on.

I also repeat, that the executives did not take on this job out of their own good will! It was easy money. 10% of the 500 million went to them! And you praise them. Once again, I am astounded.

Azz everyone is just giving their opinion on what they think is going on. There have been statements made by Katherines doctor that argue against the claims Randy and some family members were making so fans saying Randy is lying and Paris calling Randy out while it was disrespectful were all TRUE.

I just cant get over that Janet would even go along with the letter knowing her mom is in good health eek

Did you see Jermaines tweets.

The mother did suffer some kind of stroke, but it happened a couple of months go. He even said himself, that she is fine now.

Why are people using Paris' tweet as evidence to prove that the mother did not suffer a stroke. The girl admitedly said she was trying to cause a 'spark', she shouldn't be saying anything in the first place, and is extremely ignorant. Evidence being that, she thinks Janet is jealous of her acting jobs.

Why would people possibly believe her over Katherines own children; 4 of them.

Besides, Paris never said that Katherine had not suffered a stroke in recent times. She simply said the mother was of fine health today. Which Jermaine corroborated in his Tweets. And the letter does not state otherwise.

Isn't this the girl who was grounded for posting bikin pictures at the age of 14. Perhaps, she will be grounded again for saying what she said.

As for Katherine's doctor saying she was fine, that is the first I've heard of this. :-S

Your right there is a strong possibility that Jermaine is right but the Jacksons have a LONG history of lying. It makes it very difficult for me to believe anything they say and if this is true, why didnt Randy specifically clarify that his mom experienced a stroke months ago in the letter instead of making it appear that she currently suffered from a stroke? Its very misleading.

Of course Jermaine is going to claim this, he's a part of this whole fiasco and he signed that tacky stupid letter! Do you really think he is going to admit that the claim of Katherine having a stroke is a lie? Get real! And since when has Jermaine been known to tell the truth anyways? Paris lives with Katherine. She sees her everyday. I'm pretty sure she would know about her health and whether or not she had a stroke. If Randy and them were actually telling the truth, she wouldnt have said anything. But they lied and so she called them out. Jermaine is just trying to save face. #TRUTH!

I am so glad that Paris called Randy out on his shit. She is brave like her dad, Michael and outspoken like her mom, Debbie. Paris is never going to sit back and allow people to lie on her father or anyone that she loves. She and her brothers are with Katherine EVERY SINGLE DAY. THEY would know better than ANY of Katherines children IF Katherine had a stroke. These kids are VERY close to their grandmother and would have mad e a big fuss if Katherine had a stroke. Jermaine, Randy, Janet, Rebbie and Tito knew what was in this letter because they signed it. Why would they ALLOW this lie to be circulated. They did it because they wanted sympathy. Paris reacted with horror because she knew the TRUTH. Any idiot who berates a child just because she told the truth, needs to be slapped.

Btw, Jermaine is trying to spin this because they got caught in this lie. I am looking for Janet to claim that she was FORCED to sign the letter. If this happens, I will say BULLSHIT. Janet signed this letter because she wanted to, nobody forced her. Just like nobody forced her to throw her brother under the bus days after he was murdered. Sorry, there are NO EXCUSES for the things that she and this family have done since Michael's murder.

[Edited 7/19/12 12:18pm]

The reason that people are using Paris' tweet as evidence that Katherine didn't suffer a stroke is because Paris is there with Katherine EVERYDAY. She KNOWS that Katherince didn't have a stroke. Randy USED that to gain sympathy and Paris called him out on it. Jermaine is just trying to spin Randy's lie. Of coiurse, people are going to believe a child who lives and sees her grandmother everyday over people who are trying to garner sympathy from the piublic and force the estate to step down. Btw, Katherine's lawyer said that she was fine and in good health.

FTR, Paris said that her grandmother had NOT had a stroke. There was nothing disrespectful about her telling the TRUTH about her grandmother. Of course, that family is going to twist this to fit their own agenda. Paris has no agenda, except to let the public know that her grandmother had NOT had a stroke. We know what the agenda of the Jackson Family is-MONEY$$$$$$$.

Just wondering if you defenders of the Jackson Family members, who are the ones actually responsible for this MESS, are puzzled that Marlon, Jackie and LaToya didn't sign this letter? Do Janet, Rebbie, Tito, and Jermaine have information that they haven't shared with their other siblings who didn't sign? Just something to make you go Hmmm. Btw, I am wondering why the Jackson family are not contesting the 2002 will. It is basically the same will, except Blanket is added to the 2009 will. Can any of you Jackson Family defenders see ANYONE in the this family running this estate. Even you know that it would be depleted in record time.

Thank you for posting this and I thank Spike for putting the focus back on Michael's music and legacy. It seems that his family doesn't want that to happen. They seem to criticize every thing the estate has done; yet, everything that the family has done since Michael's death is an embarrassment.

I never said I was a defender of the Jackson family members!!

I would say though that it is hard to believe any of them really (estate or family) because an estate of this magnitude can turn anyones head. I always likened this situation a little to the Lemony Snicketts stories and the kids are possibly in similar peril.

One other thing about Paris though I would say is that her grandma may well have had an illness and possibly would not have told the kids, I was 17 when my Gran had a severe cancer and I was always around but I never got told until it was fairly advanced, didnt have a clue but then again most teenagers live in their own mirrored bubble.

lol I couldn't see the Wembley concert going to theaters unless it was done in the way the "Soul Power" film was done for the 1974 Zaire concert tour that predestined the Muhammad Ali/George Foreman championship fight. Hopefully this would go to DVD for those who either couldn't or were unable to get a ticket...

I'm glad that Paris called out her uncle on Twitter today--he deserved it for lying on his mom's health like that. I dont have a problem with her speaking up on behalf of her grandma, she didnt say anything about the bogus letter or the Will, she only tweeted what she knew about--the health of her grandma. Now I'm not a fan of her doing interviews, filming a movie, pursuing show business and chasing after the limelight...but today she did the right thing on calling Randy out on his BS lies. Good for her for standing up for the truth and doing the right thing, even if it meant calling out her family member. At least she can tell the difference between right and wrong, which unfortunately some of her family members seem unable to do. So some folks criticize Paris for calling out Randy on Twitter, but which is worse: her calling out her uncle or Randy/the family deliberately lying about their mother's health and using her to gain leverage in their battle against the Estate?

I have no problem with Paris's tweet (which she now unfortunately deleted) because all she was doing was defending her grandmother from some of her manipulative children. The thing is, some, not all--but some of Katherine's children straight up take advantage of her. They use and manipulate her to get her to do what THEY want. They've done it for years and they keep doing it and getting away with it because she gives into them instead of refusing them. I'm pretty sure she had or has no idea about this letter and that she and her health were going to be mentioned in it. And I think Paris decided that she was going to stick up and speak out for her grandmother this time and not let her be dragged into her own children's selfish tactics and that's why she tweeted what she tweeted. And I say good for her, this probably wont be the last time she speaks out on something she doesnt like--she dont seem like the type to hold her tongue lol. And for the record I am not claiming to know how everything goes down in the family, this is just my humble opinion, which I am entitled to. smile

She said alot more than just that her grandmother was not ill.

"i am going to clarify right now that what has been said about my grandmother is a rumor and nothing has happened , she is completely fine."

She added, "i'd like to know who made up the rumor… i will defend my beloved family member with all i have , even if it means from other family members.”

Minutes later, Paris sent a new message directed to Randy -- which said, "@randyjackson8 hello dear FAMILY member i don't appreciate you telling everyone things that aren't true thank you very much."

When one of her followers suggested Paris should have respect for Randy ... she replied, "Maybe he should have respect for his mother."

She is a rude little girl. Who does everything to get attention.

FTR, Paris is extremely well-mannered, articulate, gracious, and un-spoiled. She is so unlike most of these Hollywoord brats. Can you imagine how spoiled these kids could be given who their father is and the wealth that they have? Michael taught them not to be selfish. He never spoiled them and wouldn't allow them to be selfish. She is outspoken and I love how she defends her Daddy and those that she loves. Btw, she doesn't have to do anything to get attention and neither do her siblings. That is automatically going to happen because their Daddy is the most famous person on earth. There is not a single person ANYWHERE who has met this young lady who is not impressed with her poise, manners and upbringing. The same can be said of her brothers. Michael did a PHENOMENAL job with these children. It's because he was there for them all the time. He never allowed anything to get in the way of the time that he spent with them. His children came first, even before his business. There will never be anything rude about Paris or her brothers. She just is not going to sit idly by and allow her Grandmother to be used for this family's agenda. Michael's children are VERY INTELLIGENT. They know what's going on. Hopefully, they won't be brainwashed by this family because that is exactly what they are trying to do. As Prince said>"We will never forget what our Daddy taught us." I believe that. Michael's legacy is: His music AND His children.

Just because Paris defended the person that she loves, her Grandmother, does not make her rude. She responded the way she did because of the way this situation was presented to the MEDIA and public by Randy, Janet, Rebbie and Tito.Janet even re-tweeted this letter on her forum. They can't whine about this because it was THEM who made all of this public to gain sympathy. The bottomine is that it backfired, BIG TIME!! Just think if Paris had not said anything, defended her Grandmother, these people would have gotten away with a LIE about Katherine and no one would have been the wiser. You can bet that IF Katherine had really had a stroke, Paris would have been the first one to ask for prayers for her Grandmother. That's just the kind of person this young girl is. Concern for people that she loves.

RANDY, JERMAINE JACKSON
Plot to Get MJ's $$$ ...
Allegedly

EXCLUSIVE
0719_randy_jackson_jermaine_jackson_article
Randy and Jermaine Jackson are trying to get at Michael Jackson's money, by hatching a sinister plot involving Katherine Jackson ... so claim sources connected with the Michael Jackson Estate.

Randy, Jermaine, Janet, Tito and Rebbie Jackson all signed a letter, demanding that the Executors of the MJ Estate step down, claiming the executors are failing so badly, the stress caused Katherine to suffer a stroke.

Sources connected with the Estate are now lashing back, telling TMZ they believe Randy and Jermaine (they are not including the others) are strapped for cash and know when Katherine dies there is no way they can get their hands on a penny of MJ's fortune -- that's because all of the money goes to charity and in trust for Michael's 3 kids.

Our sources believe ... Randy and Jermaine are trying to make it appear that Katherine is infirm and may need a conservatorship. And the sources further believe Randy and Jermaine will try and get themselves appointed as her conservators, which would give them access to more than $70,000 a month.

We know Katherine's people have denied she had a stroke. As for the Estate failing miserably, it seems like bad timing, because new court docs just revealed the Estate has grossed nearly half a billion dollars, wiping out MJ's massive debt.

Calls to Randy and Jermaine have not been returned.

Why is the media trying to distance Janet from this fiasco? She, Rebbie and Tito also signed the letter. This letter didn't just have Randy and Jermaine's names on it. Janet even re-tweeted the letter/posted it on her forum. I guess the media wants to put ALL of the blame on the two are the easiest targets and the ones the media feel the public dislikes the most. No one FORCED Janet to sign this letlter. She willingly knew what she was doing and I am tired of the media trying to take the focus off of her. She has both feet in ths mess as well as the others who signed it. THe media is even digging up old articles/interviews about Janet being so-called "furious" that Paris wants a movie career. WTF this has to do with the situation at hand, I don't know.

^I think the reason why the media is focusing more so on Jermaine and Randy is because either they think or they know that those two are the main driving forces behind the letter. Even though Janet, Tito and Rebbie also signed the letter, Jerm and Rand may have been the ones to hatch this idea, get this whole fiasco started and draft the letter--which clearly wasnt done by a professional lol and release it to the media.

When one of her followers suggested Paris should have respect for Randy ... she replied, "Maybe he should have respect for his mother."

She is a rude little girl. Who does everything to get attention.

FTR, Paris is extremely well-mannered, articulate, gracious, and un-spoiled.

Do you not see how obsessed and deluded you are?

But ok. The Jacksons are after money. I hope you enjoy the rest of your MJ obsessed life, filled with delusion and cynicism

You may have a point. However, Janet, rebbie and Tito KNEW what was in this letter. NO ONE forced them to add their signatures. Janet even re-tweeted the letter and posted it on her forum. Therefore, imo, she and the others who signed it as just as guilty as Randy and Jermaine. The fact that she usually doesn't give a damn what her family does, speaks volumnes to me about her involvement in this situation. I'm sorry but there is no way that she would add her name to this letter blindly and not know the contents and the REASON for the letter. I think that she is trying to get Michael's money so that HER money won't have to be used to support this family. Of course, this is just my opinion. However, I can't see any OTHER reason for her involvement. I have said this many times over the years, I don't believe that Janet has as much money as people think.

Speaking of delusion, obsession and cynicism, do YOU actually read your OWN posts? SMH at your hypocrisy.

I agree. They are all as guilty and whatever consequences they suffer because of this, they deserve it.

BTW Jermaine is responding to the lastest story from TMZ about him and Randy's plot to get MJ's $$$:

update_bar

Jermaine Jackson has released a statement, through a rep, saying, "I note that this 'story' comes from 'sources close to the Estate'. It, therefore, does not surprise me that such a wildly false claim is being invented, presumably to deflect attention away from this family's very real concerns about the Estate."

The statement continues, "This claim is as far-fetched as it is untrue, but such are the anti-Jackson falsehoods we have come to expect from 'sources close to the Estate.'"

"I will reiterate that this family's first and foremost concern is our mother's health, welfare and well-being. Nothing else."

lol Yeah sure it is Jermaine. And Elvis is alive and Bigfoot was recently spotted at Disney World.

I've never seen this whole video. Something to escape this drama.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

If it is in fact a lie; then why is Paris, a little girl, the only one who has said anything.

Usually, by now, Latoya would be on Wendy Williams or CNN.

@JermaineJackson I want to reassure everyone (inc all sudden medical experts) that Mother is fine but is resting up in AZ on the orders of a doctor, not us @JermaineJackson This is our mother and her health is paramount. We are not inventing or plotting anything. We are following doctor's advice. Period.

@JermaineJackson Paris was responding to Twitter wildfire that inaccurately suggested Mother had a mini-stroke in the past week @RealJayVee

@JermaineJackson Outsiders, from Alan Duke to TMZ "sources", can clutch at straws all day long but no-one can tell us about events concerning our own mother

@JermaineJackson I thank the vast majority of you for your messages of love and support. The bullcrap of speculators and deflectors is just background noise

As MJJC we are happy to bring you the second Joe Vogel Q&A about his books and Michael's music. This Q&A is planned around the e-book release of "Man in the Music: The Creative Life and Work of Michael Jackson" as well as Joe Vogel's new book "Featuring Michael Jackson.

MJJC Exclusive Q&A with Joe Vogel

MJJC: What peculiarity of Michael Jackson that initially attracted and motivated you to delve into the study of his music? In other words why did you decided to analyze specifically Michael's work rather than any other artist's work? I guess there are many reasons why you appreciate him, many of them you probably discovered during your work, but I'd like to know exactly what was, so to speak, the trigger

Joe Vogel: Michael Jackson was just so different. I’m fascinated by artists that defy conventions and categories, artists that can take us places we’ve never been before, that challenge us. Michael, of course, paid a terrible price for being bold and different. When I started my book in 2005, the vitriol, hate and deceit being directed at him was awful. If anyone takes a look at media archives from that time, the level of callousness and cruelty is appalling. And I remember watching it unfold and being really angry. At first, I envisioned writing a sort of alternative biography, something more humane and nuanced and objective than what existed at the time, but as the project developed I really felt strongly about letting Michael’s creative work be the focal point and revealing the man through the music.

MJJC: You started writing “Man in the Music” book before Michael's death and were going to interview him. Did you have questions prepared that you were going to ask Michael, and if yes, can you give a few an example questions? Even if you had no questions prepared, what would you have asked Michael if you had the chance?

Joe Vogel: I did have questions prepared. Most were about process. Michael was always so vague about his creative process. Of course, part of the problem was that so few interviewers ever asked him in-depth questions about his creativity. So my questions were all about details. I wasn’t as interested in sensational questions (how much plastic surgery?) or big questions (how do you want to be remembered?) as specifics (Tell me about these lyrics in “Stranger in Moscow” or this panther segment of “Black or White?). I wanted to show him the chapters I had done so he could see how it was laid out, how it was all about the art, and then proceed from there in terms of filling gaps and gathering new stories.

MJJC: In your last piece "The Top Ten Michael Jackson Songs of All Time" you wrote "If I were forced to gather together a group of songs to hold up against the best work of the Beatles or Bob Dylan or Prince, these are the ones I would bring." I'd like to know, if you were asked to put together an album not for the fans, but for people who do not know Michael Jackson or have never appreciated his music, which songs would you choose to include in this album to make these people know and understand Michael Jackson, the artist and the man, and his music?

Joe Vogel:In a way, that was part of the philosophy of my Top Ten list: What ten songs really showcase Michael’s genius, working in different styles from different parts of his career. But if I were to throw together a mix for a non-fan, I might do: In the Back, Butterflies, Cheater, In the Closet, Give in to Me, Morphine, Stranger, 2Bad, Human Nature, Little Susie, Will You Be There, Threatened. I’d probably go with a lot of lesser-known tracks, because part of the problem with Michael Jackson is his classic songs are so familiar many people can’t hear them anymore.

MJJC: What has been the most surprising thing you have learned from your research on Michael Jackson?

Joe Vogel: I don’t know that there is one thing. I was really impressed with the intelligence that went into his work. I loved the stories about him tracking people down, calling in the middle of the night, going to an old folk’s home to visit Walt Disney’s massage therapist, reaching out to all the people he respected or admired. He was so curious, which is such a great quality for an artist.

MJJC:Why do you think so many overlook Michael's work after Thriller/Bad?

Joe Vogel: That’s a very complicated question. Part of it was a backlash to his success, part of it had to do with race, part of it was about his otherness and the media caricature that was constructed. And part of it was just sheer laziness. Critics latched onto a simple narrative—rags to riches to ruins—and couldn’t seem to find the intellectual acuity to move beyond that and recognize the evolution in Jackson’s art.

MJJC: Referring to Michael Jackson's music you often use terms like “he re-invented”. That sounds to me like an attempt to state - somehow - he has been the first to create something new in music while you are conscious that some other, although less publicized, musicians already did that before MJ. Is it correct? And if not, why you say he "reinvented" instead of "invented"?

Joe Vogel: Well, no one creates out of a vacuum so I think I’m skeptical of the term “invention” for any artist. You always draw from what comes before you. Michael didn’t invent R&B or soul or disco, but he stylized these genres in ways that hadn’t been done before. I actually think Michael did, for all intents and purposes, invent “pop” as we know it today; but I think he re-invented it with the Dangerous album. Similarly, I might feel comfortable saying, with qualification, that Michael “invented” modern music videos. Of course, they existed before Michael; but he had an enormously profound impact on what they became.

MJJC: What do you think about those rock journalists who write about “criteria” in music, stating that “innovation” and “influence” are the most important criteria to judge music and according to these criteria don’t consider Michael Jackson an important musician in pop history?

Joe Vogel: Innovation and influence are important criteria, but they are criteria Michael meets in a major way. Look at the musical landscape today: Michael’s influence is everywhere. That being said, I don’t think Michael Jackson’s greatness is in any way tied to the existence of Justin Bieber, just as the Beatles aren’t assessed by their influence on the Jonas Brothers.

MJJC: Do you think Michael's artistry and his impact on pop culture will be thoroughly examined by more scholars in the future?

Joe Vogel: Absolutely. It’s already happening. There has been a proliferation of scholarship on Jackson over the past few years, including journals and conferences. He’s being taught in many different fields—music, film studies, English, dance, visual studies, cultural studies, African American studies, etc.—at universities around the world.

What seems to be taking a bit more time is serious writing on MJ aimed at a more mainstream audience. This is an audience I have been trying to help build with my books and articles. There are still a lot of people for whom Michael is more of a celebrity or entertainer than a serious artist. It’s strange because Michael has such an enormous fan base, but the audience for this type of work is still relatively small. There is quite a ways to go to catch up to the Beatles, or Dylan, or even Springsteen and U2.

MJJC: Were you as frustrated as fans were for Michael being reduced to tabloid caricature, and his music and achievements was basically dismissed? Do you think the tide is turning and people are finally seeing him as brilliant showman and musician and his music is not dismissible?

Joe Vogel: The tide is definitely turning. There’s been an enormous shift in public perception since 2009. It’s very sad that’s what it took for people to be reminded of his genius, but that’s the way it often goes with artists of his caliber. I had the privilege of being a consultant for the upcoming Bad 25 documentary by Spike Lee and watching that footage was just incredible. The more people are exposed to Michael Jackson, the artist, the more his legacy will thrive.

MJJC: What is your favorite MJ album? Song?

Joe Vogel: My favorites change from month to month, year to year. My favorite album right now is Bad, especially the Bad outtakes and demos. Favorite songs right now: “Destiny,” “Cheater” and “She Drives Me Wild”

MJJC: How are the Stranger in Moscow and Scared Of The Moon pieces you are working on coming along? Do you have any idea when they might be released?

Joe Vogel: Unfortunately, both are on the backburner right now. These types of projects are nearly impossible to find publishers for, so they present a lot of challenges. Most likely I would have to do them independently as I did for “Earth Song.”

MJJC: Who really wrote "On the line"? Very confusing information Spike Lee said Babyface wrote the song, but Warner/Chappell's website & Ultimate, both list MJ as the writer.

Joe Vogel: My understanding is that it was co-written by Jackson and Babyface.

MJJC: Will you include new chapters in the paperback version of Man in the Music?

Joe Vogel: Umm…probably not new chapters, but definitely new material within existing chapters.

MJJC:After "Featuring Michael Jackson", what should we expect from you (regarding MJ and otherwise)? Do you have any more books about Michael planned? Such as books about Michael’s music videos or unreleased songs? Or even a book about Michael’s personal life?

Joe Vogel: There are endless projects that could be done on Michael (I have a few in mind), but my next major book will be on a different artist. No current plans to write on Michael’s unreleased songs or a biography.
