Hi, Vainandy! Timmy! I'm finally here:) I have been reading and surfing the net since I got home. I was at work and around 11, I got a call from a coworker who told me. I thought she was pranking me right before she got to the real reason she called. Unfortunately, it was true. Vainandy, you called me a true fan and I will always be. Thank you. Donna Summer has alwasy been and will always be my favorite, my The Voice, and an inspiration in song to me. Many of her fans did not know she had cancer. She chose not to share that with the public. I think she knew the kind of shit the media would pull and that they'd make her last days hell if she went public with it. Smart woman.

She really did have a hell of a voice too, it's weird the way all the most talented people are just vanishing from the scene.

All too many people that peeps love in the music biz have been passing away before their time--including those in their twenties on up. But, Donna's death hits me right between the eyes... Like a big chunk of my youth going up in flames... Too soon.

I'm not sure if our younger gens know but before there was Beyonce, Nicki, and Rihanna--hell even before Whitney and Madonna...there was Donna...she had a string of hits throughout the 70s and 80s and international success to back it up! Along with Diana Ross, she was the blueprint for the subsequent larger than life female crossover successes.

   Too bad the folks that helped builed the foundation of this so called music business, only get the recognition and accolades after they are gone.

'Bad Girls' is one of the greatest concept albums ever recorded.

I'd place it and Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' as two of the greatest of the 1970'a. The other three in the Top Five would be Stevie Wonder's.

As a double album, it's hard to find others that are its peer.

Same for a lot of us, Greg. But, you can't be done. A lot of us are still left as well as other artists we love...does Prince come to mind. It is sad--but, it ain't ovah. I'm listening to Donna now...and I will continue to play her as I ususally do every couple of months or so. The music doesn't die.

President Barack Obama said Thursday that he and first lady Michelle Obama were "saddened" to hear of the death of "Disco Queen" Donna Summer.

"Her voice was unforgettable, and the music industry has lost a legend far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Donna's family and her dedicated fans," the president said in a written statement.

The big-voiced star had '70s hits with "I Feel Love" and "Last Dance" and scored a 1983 smash with "She Works Hard for the Money." In December 2009, she performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, honoring Obama.

The president also mourned the passing of Di...k in April. But he kept mum about the deaths of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Beastie Boy MCA (Adam Yauch), a fervent activist on behalf of people in Tibet.

I think that writer is wrong. I remember him speaking on Michael and Whitney's deaths.

I feel like someone left my cake out in the rain...

This one has really taken me by surprise! I can't believe Donna is dead. I don't think the public even knew she was sick. I certainly didn't hear anything.

Donna's passing is so unexpected. I'm gutted right now. Her greatest hits album "Endless Summer" was one of the first albums I owned. I remember being 12 years old and hearing "Love To Love You" and loving the song. Soon after, I bought "Endless Summer". I remember just loving the heck out of "MacArthur Park". I spent so much time in my room singing and wailing along to that song especially this part:

someone left the cake out the rain

I don't think I could take it

'cause it took so long to bake it

And I'll never have that recipe again

Agaaaaaaaaaiiiiiinnnn....

Such great memories everytime I hear that song.

Man, what a glorious voice Donna had. What a wonderful talent and a TOTAL class act all the way. I can't believe she's gone. She was, is and always will be The Queen of Disco. She was huge in her day but still was underappreciated in many ways.

She will not be forgotten though.

I'm here blasting "MacCarthur Park" right now at home in her memory. Love you Donna.

You were a gem. I just take solace in knowing that she isn't in pain anymore.

When Rihanna typed "Donna Summer??" it's kinda clear she was asking, "Why is Donna Summer trending?" Not "Who is that?" That's what I thought too when I saw her name at first. And besides, Rihanna immediately tweeted "RIP" afterward, so I highly doubt she's ignorant enough to not know who Donna Summer is.

And this is very sad news. I believe Ms. Summer though, in regards to her exposure to the seriously hazardous dust that was produced by the 9/11 attack. It is indeed plausible that certain particles she inhaled in that area contributed to her pulmonary disease and early passing. That's not just some tabloid story. Thousands of people either have been, are, or will be victims of lung disorders because of being in the environment where those towers collapsed.

One of my first 45s I ever bought was Hot Stuff. And I played the heck out the of Thank God It's Friday soundtrack as well as seeing the movie. Brings back such great memories and carefree times.

I just noticed it's "lee". For some reason, my eyes kept reading it as "leeca".

I never knew she had cancer, nor depression, which I also saw on "ET Tonight". The lady was brave and went out with true class. Whether bad girl or born again Christian, she never came across as stuffy and always threw down hard.

This was filmed in 1969 for a German TV program called 11 Uhr 20, which aired in early 1970. The song is called Black Power and is by Peter Thomas featuring Donna.

RIP Donna.
