And Janet has 6. If Damita Jo and 20 YO had've debuted at #1 instead of #2, she would also have 8. Every studio album that Janet has released since 1986 has debuted at or gone to the top 2 of the Billboard 200. Not even Madge can claim that.

And since 1983, every one of Madonna's studio albums have gone at least top 10. I know Janet fans like to pretend those pre-Control albums don't exist, or aren't as relevant as what came after 1986, but I don't. Madonna's never had a studio album that charted as low as #63 and #147, like Janet Jackson and Dream Street did.

All that aside, the bottom line is that Damita Jo and 20 Y.O. didn't reach the summit, and the fact remains that Madonna has eight number one albums to Janet's six. Madonna's albums (and singles) chart history has ultimately been better than Janet's...and Janet was out first.

Ok, and? My reference was about every Janet album from Control on. I'm aware that she made two albums prior to Control, but that wasn't my point, and her heart wasn't in either of those albums (though they do have some great tracks). And yes, Madonna has albums that charted top 10 since '83, but top 2--no. She couldn't even get a #1 US album after Like a Prayer until 2000's Music.

"Madonna has eight number one albums to Janet's six.."

Madonna also has more output than Janet. Like I said before, Janet--even during her peak--was never one to rush out an album every 2 years the way Madonna did. She always waited at least four years between projects. She could've put out something in 1988, or 1991, or 1995, etc, if she really wanted to. And they would have been high charters, likely #1s, particularly given the trajectory of her career around that time. But she didn't. She also obviously doesn't care much about chart stats, because if she did, she would have her huge sellers (RN, janet., Control) re-certified to get some real reciepts. I doubt Madonna cares about chart stats either, since she didn't even bother to do promo for her latest CD, and since it's progressively fallen down the charts as the weeks go by.

At the end of the day, Janet is Janet and Madonna is Madonna, but I do know that one is given a lot more props than the other when it's so obvious that both of their influence reigns over pop music today.

What's worse is that some of you all in here are going back and forth about two women who A), have no clue about who you are and B), are living life being rich, famous and fabulous and doing exactly what they love.

It's based on billboard chart stats i.e. facts.

So your opinion my friend is irrelevant biggrin

Gunsnhalen

No offense, i realize you guys are passionate about these artists. I like them both as well[mainly there 90's work]

But you guys take this shit WAY to seriously WAY WAY WAY to seriously. They both have had hits in 3 decades, they both have had lots of number 1's, number 10's, number vaginas etc.

What does it matter? bottom line there both very famous & successful & there both rich and don't give a fuck about who's checking them lol

I would consider myself a Madonna fan, sure, I'll say that. Not a crazy, gonna get into all sorts of arguments over some shit about her on a forum cause I don't know her and she doesn't send me any money or nothing, but a fan nontheless.

I'll say this. I listened to the first five songs (liked the hook of the first) but had to turn it off after that.

I tried to make myself listen to the rest of the album and could only make it about 3 songs further in.

Y'know I'm kinda tempted to post a Slayer track if I see a Madonna fan and a Janet fan return to argue some more like bitter ex-lovers... just waiting for my time to strike...
